we're both going to have fresh 6bolts; awesome. i took mine up to Performance Concepts yesterday. the plan is to check everything out, make sure its ok, wash and clean the block, head, crank, rods, and pistons, shave the block and head for flatness, and disassemble/clean/reassemble the head with new valveseals and a valvejob.
i do still need injectors though; anyone have any sitting around?
P.S. - i would go to Virgil to get Clevite 77 bearings. i got the rod and main bearings for less than $55 from him.

Head Gasket: MLS or Cometic w/copper spray ;)
Clutch: Spec3 or Spec3+ with Fidanza flywheel
Pistons/Rods: 2g pistons/1g rods or Eagle/Wiseco-JE
Bearings: Clevite 77 or ACL race
Timing Belt: OEM
Probably would do new valve seals/guides while your in it. Unless they were recently replaced. ARP everything is always good.
I could just sell you my entire motor if you'd like from the Talon :). Cams and all.

at first i thought i was getting ripped off after i read your prices; but then i remembered i'm having my head disassembled and cleaned, having a valvejob done, new valve seals installed and a few broken studs removed. i think i'm doing alright

The motor we had lined up turned out to be a non-turbo, so Little hooked my up with another 6bolt, turbo this time. But yea, Im not getting any head work done, probably should though... I'll tear into it this weekend after I attempt a burnout or something :)
thanks for all the good words above colton...to bad that motor turned out bein a NA but at least you found one... idk if i would attempt a burnout...might end up needing more work than you planned on...or the motor could come out on its own i guess :suspect:

The N/A 4g63 is the same except for oil squirter's and pistons... If you do arp mains make sure you get the mains line-honed or the bores might not be 100% true. It would be beneficial to use a torque plate as well when you bore the cylinders.

^ yea thats the boring stuff brent and I discussed over the phone and such. Motor is sitting on to mounts, waiting for the balance bar for the hoist. It woulda been out but couldnt find it. The car barely started and ran to get it 50 ft into the shed.
have a few pics ill post a little later

Keep power steering.
But get MR2 electric power steering pump and hide it away somewhere.

excellent idea, the pump was all thats in my way. I want this to remain a nice street car, minus the cruise control, I hate that junk.

Still needing that motor this weekend?
Build looks good.
I personally would just keep with an act 2600. I've read many a horror stories on the spec clutches.
I also wouldn't waste your time on 2g pistons. All said and done you could get a set of eagles/weisco for a couple hundred more.
Lastly, if you want some arp's I have an extra set. 35 bucks for them. Also a head gasket that looks barely used.

Picked up the 6bolt saturday. Came with arp head studs and awd flywheel. Also grabbed a few miscellaneous interior parts I was missing. Littles dsm warehouse is fun, coulda spent a lot more time and money.
thats right count the flywheel bolts...

so apparently my block needs to be bored. anyone have any suggestions for pistons? i dont want stock replacement, and i want something forged. i dont need the best, all out race pistons; just a good, durable decently inexpensive set.
Drifte
07-01-2008, 09:52 PM
Mahle Pistons $470, Manly $420, Wiseco $500. Thats just kind of an average price. If you need links to dsm part sources let us know. Hopefully mine just needs a hone, came out of a running car so I'm hopeful.

Heres what I want to do with the intercooler.
TbTalon94
07-26-2008, 02:14 PM
I could do that. Bring it to me.
Drifte
07-26-2008, 05:45 PM
I'll have to bring the whole car. Depending also on if we use the same charge pipe just modify it, or use that pretty aluminum everywhere...then that all depends on costs too.
TbTalon94
07-26-2008, 06:17 PM
I actually got a good cheap place to buy aluminum bends from, but they aren't polished. So if you want to do that just tell me, and we can order some up. You could just polish them later. Would be nice to build all new pipes that fit, look, and perform great :)
Drifte
07-26-2008, 11:16 PM
Yea, I'm sure we'll be talking more about this.
A few steps yet to take:
Get it running
AEM WB02
AEM True Boost
Coilovers
Wheels
Some paint
And somewhere in their is the charge pipe. Hopefully sooner than later.

Drifte
09-01-2008, 10:50 PM
ofcourse i have your number. I started and drove the car saturday. Then Sunday I noticed my fuel pressure struggling, and it seems my pump is junk. I didnt replace it so I dont really excpect much of it, and all the fuel lines were leaking. I did a pressure test to 90psi, and the rail lines and regulator held strong, everything else leaked. I went to pull the pump and it had 3 out of 6 studs broken off, and I saw it was leaking. So i am going to have to drill the tank and weld in new studs, probably replace the pump and maybe install new lines from pump to firewall, new connectors as well. But saturday it ran really nice :)

You need to drop your battery down on the subframe. It looks a million times cleaner and would help with your tuck, and then you don't have to re-locate it.
Drifte
09-02-2008, 08:30 AM
The plan was to relocate it or put it on the subframe, but didnt have time for either. So its still in the stock place. theirs a few hoses/wires that are just kinda tossed in their right now that need tucked away too. I made the mistake of reinstalling my fender and liner to soon.

Parts here and installed. The tighter 90degree fitting still wasnt quiet enough, but will work for now. Im going to end up using it on the rail instead of the pictured fitting on their now. Quick and easy install, takes about an hour.Going to use the old line as the return line eventually.

Was it leaking at the O-ring on the fuel pump or what? It shoudn't leak in that stock hose assembly? What is going on there.
Drifte
11-10-2008, 08:07 PM
Yea at the 0-ring. I tried just about everything and it just wouldnt sit tight. Brent had told me this weekend he did the mod I have pictured, and his car has worked great for a couple 3 years now. Should be good to go.
Need to replace the 1, ONE! Freakin line I didnt before. The filter to rail line is leaking at the filter. Man those old fittings suck.
TbTalon94
11-10-2008, 09:05 PM
you should have replaced all that shit when you got the damn car.
Drifte
11-10-2008, 11:34 PM
Yea, hind sight is 20:20. Remember when I got the FPR and we realized I HAD to replace the return line too, it was so rotted it was INCREDIBLE it hadn't burst.
School is intesnse right, now and a few side projects going on as well. But I hope to fix that leaky line (somehow :/) and take it for a spin!
TbTalon94
11-12-2008, 03:55 PM
But it ran fine?
Oh and if you would have told me I could have just welded on a damn barb on the inside instead of leaving that stock piece. Would have been a lot more reasuring then 3 hose clamps :suspect:
It ran, idk about fine, but wheels are turning.
Overheats like its paid to do it. ;)
Drifte
11-12-2008, 08:13 PM
Ran ok, needs coolant. The pump assembly isnt just clamped in, its ran onto the steel tube 3 " and the rubber hose is alone for about 1/4" then clamped to the pump.

Its ok Colton, my fuel filter to fuel rail burst when I started my car up at a friends house a few years ago. On a hill too, fuel was just running down the road. Just took it off and went to custom hose and WA LA they fixed it for like $1. It was awesome. Cool your car kinda runs. My car is running, Seth's car im not sure runs or not. have trevor boost leak test it with his soapy water. kinda sucks when you do test it cuz you find stuff out that pisses you off......
TbTalon94
11-16-2008, 05:32 PM
It ran shitty because of that BOV 100%. I could turn the damn thing with my hand. Throw that 1g on and see if it runs better. I've got some injector seals sitting around if you need some also.
Drifte
11-16-2008, 05:36 PM
I took the bov off completely and covered it. Didnt change anything. And I can hear air coming from somewhere by the intake mani, and its very audible. IDK what that is about.
n8kerns
11-16-2008, 07:16 PM
Cut a piece of hose to use to find where its coming from. And where are you hooking the boost leak tester up to? Try hooking it up to the TB to eliminate some of the other stuff.
xci.ed6
11-16-2008, 09:45 PM
get some carb cleaner or ether. Spray it around, when you hit the leak the engine will run funny. Much easier than listening over a noisy 4-four-gee-shitty-three.
TbTalon94
11-17-2008, 08:10 AM
lol it already runs funny, he just needs to do a boost leak test...but needs an air compressor for that!
Maybe your intake mani gasket is bad?

Drifte
12-03-2008, 08:09 PM
When I installed the new non-cruise throttle cable i looped it under the intake manifold instead of over. Once the batteries moved and the new charge pipe and intake on it should look so much better. well sort of. It was fantastic outside today, but the day was wasted because family was up here and theirs a game going on. I dont have my manual that shows me the wiring diagram either. Next thing to try would be jumping the temp sensor terminals to see if thats the culprit. IF that does nothing my fan is dead. And its time for slimline pushers. Or it could mean my wiring is bad somewhere...At this point its tempting to hard wire it but thats a hassle too.

Taking battery and alternator to advance auto tonight to test. Hopefully all problems are due to a faulty voltage regulator.
Drifte
12-15-2008, 07:15 PM
Had tested. Battery was good, and should be as its about a month old. Alternator tested "good" to advances standards, However, I need someone to tell me if this shows its bad or not. The alternator when simpy on produced 15volts. Once loaded it produced about 15.5v. That seems wrong to me, but its in advance autos vast green section of OK (on the voltmeter), but it was near the limit.
It sounds way high to me, but I cant really fight it if its not ok. Im going to reinstall it and add some grounds and hope for the best.
TbTalon94
12-16-2008, 08:30 AM
That's the voltage regulator going out. You need to explain to them what the car is doing, and they have to replaced it under warranty. I've replaced probably 6-8 alternators on my DSMs..fucking things never last.

IM to firewall was connected, but loosely. ANd my firewall doesnt have a lot of options anymore, so I bolted it to the strut tower, and it seems to have made it all better. Oddly a lot better so far actually. THe car really died off before between shifts and now it shifts smoothly...weird?

Little work done this past weekend. Welded in new studs for fuel pump assembly found a great method to that. Lots of new nuts and bolts put in to the underside of the car. Undercoated as well. Still waiting on the transmission back from Kevins, no word on what was actually causing the noise yet. Also have the turbo oil feed line relocated, and oil pressure wiring redone; the snow drift yanked it out. Also since I had the tank out went ahead and changed the rear end fluid out to the redline shockproof hd I had waiting.

If any one needs help with one of these in the future I have the method! I could find no one in Iowa who would do this the right way so I had to find another "right" way. Worked out fantastic.

Looks good colton, nice work. Is that spring broke on your strut?

I could have looked over the transmission for you. Let me know if you have any problems with it later.

Yes unfortunately the spring is broken. And thank you slowride, Kevins been doing work for me for a long time...and it always takes a long time! I'll be sure to get a hold of you next time.
thanks for the kind words, more updates when I hear from Kevin.

So it was something in the tranny then?

02-08-2009, 05:47 PM
Well by process of elimination I determined trans. Could actually be wrong but the transfer case was immaculate and quiet. Drive shaft and rear end made no noises. Trans seemed to make the noise I was hearing when I tried turning it by hand so I decided to have it looked over.

Evo wheels always look nice on 2gs. I've been looking for a decent priced set for awhile to get rid of the wheels I have, but everyone wants gold for them.

Evo 8 wheels FTW... :)

Their a bit to flat and non 3 dimensional for the 1g. The wheel shape really makes the 1g work. I've seen some wheels I'd really like to get for it, have a dish to them no lip.

Update:
Installed a CD player finally. Have the dash 3.5" coaxials mounted up and wired as fronts. The door 51/4" coaxials are wired as the rears. I want decent imaging and to be able to adjust levels a little more, and this method seems to work great! Still looking for the factory 6.5" door pods, if I cant find them will probably just build them out of some mdf or 1/4" board.
CD player has been sitting around for 4 years now, had to test it out before I wasted my time hard wiring it, soldering and heat shrinking. Pictures not importing so no fun.

I like that first one minus the blue lettering.
Ever since I took a chunk out of my Motegi's I've been looking at new rims. Check out the Rota Sub-Zero's they have the same general look. Think thats what I'm gonna get, unless by some miracle I figure out what kind of outdated Motegi's mine where and find some.

subzeros are nice no doubt, but I really like the concave look over the lip right now. Of course I haven't found any one offering those wheels I want in 17x8 yet either.

photoshop just doesnt do it for everything. Cant seem to find a good shot of the talon for testing wheels on it. But heres the dc5's.

^plan on that, in photoshop and in the real world.
Looking over intercoolers I want to pick out the right fit. I know I am for sure going short route piping.
TDO6H-20G-14CM2 650 CFM. I have the BR20g but I'll use the figures I have.
Punishment racing FMIC 8" street kit.
-34x8x3.5 Intercooler
-26x8x3.5 Bar and Plate core
-650 cfm @ 1.5 psi 78% efficiency
That kit should suit me well and fit great. Its only $400. Now if I could find just the intercooler alone so I could have my own piping done that would be great. But they dont sell the core alone. Also comes flanged for 1g or greddy bov. I have neither of course.

Much better core, under $400...and just the intercooler. ETS's stuff fits 2nd to none hands down. I ran the same core on my car. I'll build you the pipes...there isn't much with short-route lol.

Heard back from Kevin. Not good, although i was right it was the differential bearing. It took out parts of 3rd and 5th and 2nd needed replaced anyway as it got beat up real good from the previous setup...NOT ME!!!
My current intercooler is actually pretty small and the piping snakes all around the car. I want a shorter nicer more efficient setup.

that sux. Can you do a CRV tranny swap?
Your current intercooler setup may not be the best, or most efficient, but it is more than adequate for the maximum your engine is capable of. Don't fix what isn't broke.
Drifte
02-17-2009, 05:36 PM
its not capable or more than adequate for the "maximum" my engine is capable of. I would guess my current front mount would support 300hp but not "nicely". My goal really only is 300whp. But I can imagine i make more power just by replacing that intercooler.

I went 11.85@116.5 with the RRE small top to bottom griffin core and a big 16g(not evo) no clip on the turbine. I also had a 2g mas, 550's, SAFC only, etc. Granted that was on 116 sunnoco, but I wouldn't worry so much about your IC at this point. Let me know if you have any questions about the trans as I have built more(correctely) than anyone around. It sound like a mess in the case though.

yea Im not far off of the "good ol' days" setup. Proven, reliable only difference is I have the chip, 20g, and soon WB02. I think Kevin was being a little over excited about it, the bearing it sounds like touched and maybe chipped a gear. I will talk to him more today and see if I can get some "better" parts in, in the process.

Ok, had some time today to think this over and get a more detailed parts list from Kevin.
2nd Gear $150
Cluster shaft w/ 3rd gear $200
5th gear sleeve $15
1-2 synchro hub slider $?
Bearing set $290.75!
Labor $275
Grand total. $1,097
Judging from the total the 1-2 synchro hub slider would be $166.

I would almost prefer you to not blast it as the sand/media might be hard to clean out of all the cracks if it gets into the transmission. Others can build it, but don't know all the upgrades from year to year unless they are into(or were) DSM's. It's a 92' trans I believe so it would benifit from some upgraded parts in some areas. Those prices on parts are not that great. I can probably find some used gears, etc for way cheaper than that and I don't have a problem using used gears as they work out great and actually shift smoother.
Sorry Trev I forgot about the new car.
