Had a friend home from the Marines and shot some handguns in my parents back yard.
Little bit of everything, few XDs, some Glocks, a Walther and a couple Sigs. No Hi-Points, only quality firearms allowed.
The yard sparkled with brass. Its was beautiful.

i was going to let it die but you had to bring it up again. next time you want to do some real testing, I will send you my hi-point

I will take that bet. The Raven looks like a semi auto version of a Derringer. So unless your target is a zepplin, you dont stand a chance.

Where is a dead horse when you need to beat one.... It was a joke, I do have a Raven MP25 somewhere, honestly don't even know where it is from when I moved into my current house... prolly in the garage in a box.

Side Note: If you were such a gun Guru like you are claiming you would know that the Raven is actually a direct ancestor to the Hi-Point ;)

I never claimed I was a guru, just an informed enthusiast.
Also you are not doing yourself any justice stating you "actually" own a firearm, but have misplaced it.
It doesnt matter what kind of quality the gun is, an XD, Glock, Desert Eagle, Hi-Point, etc, a firearm is still a firearm and should handled with responsibility, not neglect as you are protraying to us.

I don't OC unless I'm hunting generally...but ill.conceal just about everywhere but work and partying...I carry into friends houses all the time, not worth the inconvenience of pulling my holster and worrying about my firearm sitting in a car or something...generally I have found that the people who make compensation theories are indeed compensating themselves...

...generally I have found that the people who make compensation theories are indeed compensating themselves...

I usually don't, but a guy brought his to the gym last night and lets just say that his ability to bench press anything beyond the bar was purely questionable.

I think you know where my politics stand on this issue and where my allegiances are so baiting me into whether or not I'm compensating myself is intellectual dishonesty at its best.

SaNdMaNsSi
02-07-2013, 09:54 AM
I don't really care if people open carry or not, it doesn't raise a bit of fear in me. I do, however, find the people that say people are "compensating for something" by owning guns to be the fearful ones. They are too scared to handle a firearm themselves, so they think they can dictate to others what they should or should not be able to do in an effort to minimize their own fear without being forced to admit it. When I see someone open carry, I don't get freaked out and cry like a little girl about it or start name calling to make myself feel better. I certainly notice those people and keep a closer eye on where that gun is moving around the room, but it stops at that. When I carry, it's always concealed. No reason to make a big scene. However, I carry a big firearm. I'm also a taller guy, so sometimes when I'm working on something, or reaching high, my shirt tends to come up and drop over the firearm and I find it sticking out into the open. I don't make a scene, I make sure to conceal it again and apologize to the liberal quickly dialing 911 and the National Guard. I never really base my decision on where to carry, I just put it on sometimes when I walk out of the house whether I'm going to the bank or the grocery store. Other times I leave it at home.
When I go to the gym, it's usually after other errands, or I still have my firearm on me. Since I go to the MAC, and all they have is cubbies, I always put the safety on, remove the round in the chamber, and take my magazine out. I then make sure my firearm is hidden under all of my clothing. To keep it strapped on you while you are working out is idiotic and just showing off. Not to mention, with the kind of movements you make while working out, rolling onto your hip or putting pressure on a trigger wouldn't be terribly hard to do. That person is a moron, and is just hoping someone is paying attention to them. I'm sorry, the gym is already full of tough guys. No one is impressed by showing off your firearm.
I could leave my weapon in my car, sure. Sometimes I do. It usually depends on what I'm driving. If I'm driving one of my Hondas, I sometimes leave it behind. If I'm driving my Wrangler, I don't think those doors have been locked or unlocked since 1988, so there's no way of securing it.
Long story short, people need to get over themselves. The more people that carry open or otherwise, the more people in general will get desensitized to seeing a firearm and will quit bellyaching so much about me. My theory in life is if you don't like something, don't do it; but don't think you have any ground to stand on telling someone else what they can and can't do. I'm not about to stick my tongue down a guy's throat, but I could really care less if anyone else finds the need to. Unless Sparkles switches teams, then I'm down.

Fifty or Sandman do either of you have children?

I do not have a ccw, would like to get one however the wife is quite opposed due to our three kids.
Obviously you would teach them that it is not a toy and do not handle until they are old enough to do so.
Just curious to see if it makes or would make any difference in your handling.

No, I don't have kids....never really wanted any. It would definitely change how I handle firearms in the home, and probably where and when I'd carry. I'd probably get a smaller firearm for carry, or not carry at all. My house isn't exactly conducive to children anyways. Most of my decorating consists of things from the early 30's thru 50's, large, heavy awkward items that can be knocked over easily. Lots of fragile stuff. Also, I tend to leave my firearms all over the place. Since I have an alarm system, I'm not worried about them. I keep the ammo locked up, but the guns not always. My handguns and Tec-9 never see the light of day, but my long guns are either in unlocked gun cases in a closet, or laying on the kitchen table, behind a door, sitting on the coffee table, etc. So yes, if I had children around, my firearm care would be significantly different. As it sits now, whenever I get around to picking them up and putting them away after cleaning is when they are safely out of reach.

I carry pretty much anytime I'm not home, unless I'm going to be drinking or going to a drinking type establishment or casino, although, I have carried there before as well. Never openly carried, but I don't see the big problem. I probably would, if people weren't such Nancies about it. It would be nice if there was a day that it wasn't such a big deal, but we all know that won't happen.

So yeah, pretty much, if you see me, I'm armed. Including the shootout. I was afraid of EddyB as well.

I have an inside source, so I haven't had any problem. Actually, I've been buying it and selling it from a local gun dealer friend. I even have .223 zombie ammo.... But I see plenty of gougers out there, so even though I'm paying retail, (pre Democrat scare) I wouldnt pay a penny of the gouger prices. And, my memory is quite long; any gun dealer/shop in the area gouging will never get my business again. (I'm looking at you, 16th ave gun shop).

Got this the other day and decided to share...

Smith & Wesson-is running at Full capacity making 300+ guns/day-mainly M&P pistols. They are unable to produce any more guns to help with the shortages.

RUGER: Plans to increase from 75% to 100% in the next 90 days.

FNH: Moving from 50% production to 75% by Feb 1st and 100% by March 1.

Remington-Maxed out!

Armalite: Maxed out.

DPMS: Can't get enough parts to produce any more product.

COLT: Production runs increasing weekly...bottle necked by Bolt carrier's.

LWRC:Making only black guns, running at full capacity... can't get enough gun quality steel to make barrels.

Springfield Armory: Only company who can meet demand but are running 30-45 days behind.

AMMO: Every caliber is now Allocated! We are looking at a nationwide shortage of allcalibers over the next 9 months. All plants are producing as much ammo as possible w/ of

1 BILLION rounds produced weekly. Most is military followed by L.E. and civilians are third in line.

MAGPUL is behind 1 MILLION mags, do not expect any large quantities of magpul anytime soon.

RELOADERS... ALL Remington, Winchester, CCI & Federal primers are going to ammoFIRST. There are no extra's for reloading purposes... it could be 6-9 months before things

get caught up.

All guns will probably jam at some point...That being said, my tec-9 has had 1 jam in it's entire life. It's all about gun care. Tec-9 unreliability is a ghetto myth, and is because "gangstas" don't clean their weapons. Also, when buying one used, more often than not, they were previously owned by a self proclaimed thug who didn't take care of it. I bought mine brand new a couple of years ago from a guy that bought it and never fired it....Like I said, 1 jam in the hundreds of rounds that have been through it. Not as accurate as some guns, but just as reliable as most. Also, you mentioned hi-cap. My Kimber is nice, but nothing replaces a 7 round mag like a 50 round.

I don't want to be the "my buddy has one and he said" guy, but I do and he had mediocre thoughts on it when he first got it. He had to send it back for some feed problem it was having. They sent him a new one back, so whatever it was must have not been fixable. They took care of him good though. At that price, if it were me, I'd look into a used Glock myself, but I'm just not a big fan of S&W semi autos, although I do have a 22A.

You opposed to a revolver? I'm very happy with the SP101 I just bought except for the grips. Balanced. Well machined. Smooth. Great gun.

I put a red dot on mine. Bought it brand new for $175. It's the most accurate shooting cheap pile of crap I have. I love it. I can knock a 9mm case off of a stick at 30yds.

The Sigma was the handgun Glock sued S&W over because internally it was pretty much identical to a Glock. I will say the trigger is stupid heavy but they are pretty accurate and shoot nicely. I liked shooting it but I wouldn't personally buy one as I dont like trigger safeties.

How "involved" was the trigger job? Not that I have any complaints about mine however smoother is always better.

Ben I wish the xd could have a reddot like that 22a.

Yeah, I remember him bitching about the trigger pull on it too. I personally never shot it, but I know he wasn't a fan.

I know there is a double spring set in the trigger group and by removing one of those springs you can cut the pull weight about in half. Like I said, its not a terrible handgun by any means. It IS fairly accurate and handles fairly well. When I took my buddy out with it he asked if I'd like to shoot his Sigma, not being one to turn down a chance at a different firearm I took him up on it. At 25 yds I was making him look VERY bad and pissed him off quite a bit so I ended up working with him on shooting all darn day. Honestly though if price was an issue the Ruger line (P95, M&P, LC9) are all pretty good and the price is reasonable not to mention I hear their customer service is pretty good as well.

Sleepy, it was definitely trickier then I had anticipated, I pretty much had to take the gun apart entirely...whole different ballpark than the usual Ar trigger jobs I've been doing

Thanks Cougar boy, I got myself a p95 yesterday. $320 at scheels . Scheels had a few new ones in stock. They were out of all 9mm target ammo. Came with 2 * 15 round magazines, case, speed loader, lock . Feels pretty solid and smooth. can't wait to try it out. hopefully the swisher shooting range is open despite that accident. stop calling me hi-point boy now

The 8th was yesterday too. Had I known I would have run up there.
