Manual runoff 2010

We will have another cr manual runoff complete w new bigger/better trophy. Scott Taylor and I started it so to speak.

Any fuel, tires, suspension, engine mods allowed.
Stock like manual transmissions.. no dogbox or faceplated trannies.

2 time trials to determine lineup of cars, redlight on time trials is acceptable, we go off of low et on slip. Then we line up low et [quickest] vs high et [slowest] You can do 2 or just one time trial if you are happy w first one. Lower et gets lane choice.

Runoff [actual race]...Redlight you lose, who gets to finish line first wins. Overall winner gets trophy, pics and video posted here. You beat each opponent and advance to next race till final race result is determined. It was decided last yr if both redlight both lose and are out.

Plan cfr for various reasons.. around late summer daytime if possible. This is for plated reg d/d street cars. Not some nhra stock/ss class racer.. you know what I mean.

I would like whoever wants to do it just say so.. I really don't care what mods you have, though might generate interest for others to come and watch. You know I'm in and what I have. If I change it let you know.

well Scotty maybe even if you run the coupe you could run your 03 also. Multitalented and all... We'll try to get just a test and tune session as last time I was there they prepped the track real well anyway. Somebody needs to get mid 10's or better in a stick around here.

I'll just get a used broke t56 or something with a different bell on it and throw that on the notch.. Just need a clutch pedal kit and a cable and probably a different driveshaft but I would expect someone has this stuff sitting around somewhat cheap!! JK I doubt I'll do all that work for one race but it would be fun to see how fast that car would be allmotor with a stick in it! I bet if everything holds up it should have a high 9 in it

Tko would work esp a 600. in a fox body w some power maybe not a 300 shot but 100 should be ok granny shifting. It could appear ls mtrs could rule, guys better tune/test your cars. I'm sure Joe w a z ls7 and some spray/tires could make things difficult. Be interesting for sure.

I def don't want to wait so long this time around as weather is too unknown in fall.

D/D suggested Aug 8th. His group will be there also if you want to whip up on a auto or something.... Here is what cedar falls says for aug 7th.... Plenty of time to get there, be hot I'd imagine. Everybody look over the rules on pg. 1 all I ask. I will supply a trophy similar to last yr. w similar lettering. We will do this in the afternoon as I don't want a bunch of fwd dragging water to the line. So a couple of time trials, then we line up as specified and it should come down to 2 quickest cars. Who gets to finish line first w/o a red light. I suppose a .5 tree, we will see in the time trials. Maybe Joe can convince Driscoll for a good track, idk.

Yea D/d you are right it's sat. the 7th of aug. There are not a lot of days w open track at cfr. I myself will hmmm give up $45 x 8 to make this happen.

Btw I raced both guys. The non quad city guy I had mo or less bone stock and we did it like 3/4 times from a dig and it was all about who launched better. He put a procharger on it last I knew. The quad cities guy well as ppl saw for whatever reason I beat him by quite a bit. So for a limited run car I raced 2 of the mystichromes.

And here is the prize and anyone can win it..... sh-t happens..... I have found that out so many times it isn't funny.

I am very sorry Scotty, I wasn't thinking right, planning a trip to k.c. over the weekend, then the Allgo z06 deal, man always something as George would say get ducks in a row. Ok now 4 03/04 cobras I don't know if Josh still has his? If so 5 on here. And I raced most of them in a friendly way. Always testing stuff. Scotty btw has a very quick fox body so mostly I think of that car, same w Allgo's bright red 04 cobra not his redfire cobra. Lately been looking up z06 stuff. All in all we have some quick fords on here esp w the turbos also. And big hp. Left someone out sorry. A few fords for sure. 88gt and stangvortech they have been around also. Idk what Wyatt has now.

think I'm going to back out of this. definitely is something wrong with my tranny and I think I'm done with track racing till next year when I can hopefully replace shift forks/synchros, whatever is causing the issues.

I may still make it though, depends if I get motivated enough to pull the tranny and fix it on top of everything else I'm trying to do to my car this summer. Not sure if I will since I can still drive it and race it fine on the street as it is and I have other problems I need to take care of first.

Not that any of this matters since 90% of the people entering into this runoff would smoke me anyway :P

I 2nd that rob. Given half the people going aren't at the track all the time, I think pro tree could be an unfair advantage. Not that it matters, everyone who will want pro tree will have the quicker cars anyways.

I just love my car for what it is.
I enjoy going to the dragstrip/car shows and being somewhat unique. There's always a million and a half mustangs/camaros/firebirds. + It's fun to surprise a lot of those v8's when a little 4 banger beats them :supz:

I had my firebird, and yeah I loved it.
I'd love an LS1 or Cobra or something for a daily driver if I had the money. However in the long run I'd rather build something like a DSM.

Theres also just something about DSM's I like. I always liked them since I got my laser, and then I was hooked when I rode in a fast one. I can't see myself switching to a STi or Evo either - I'd rather just put the money into a DSM. It's just to me such a great car. I enjoy the fact that it's the type of car that a lot of people don't really know what it is.

They(primarily 1g's) dont have as bad of a rep as a lot of other imports as being so sought after by ricers/idiots. Yeah they're out there but I mean, you talk to a lot of domestic people for example and they'll typically have much better things to say about DSM's than Hondas for example. + How many other imports can you get for the price and have a motor that stock is able to hold up to 400-500hp.

Dont get me wrong I love hondas/subarus/etc but I just love DSMs more

It's hard to explain but that's about the best explanation I can give for why I like DSMs.

So twin screw vs twin screw are the favorites, sure in the hell isn't my pos unported eaton w some nitrous. Only redlights can save me and I know Joe doesn't do that. I was planning on to have the eaton ported and a tune and etc. but nooooo sh-t happens, life goes on.

The only thing is this day it is all open. I agree we won't run the best but all will be handicapped the same. No different than drag city at tristate. The way the weather has been, hard to trust sept. it might be hot and raining, heck look at this month flooding a lot of places pretty unusual. Aug. least chance of a rainout if we do get rained out we will have fall back dates. Don't worry Joe u will probably win or the other sonic blue or that ls import swap.

Well the way i have been fighting my clutch, i doubt iits going to be this sonic blue car.

What clutch you have? I changed mine to a spec 3+ 26 spline w lpr option and alum fidaza after burning the stocker pretty good. Also put in that 26 spline input shaft. A lot was due to at the time a broken ankle and ankle was weak. 9 screws and a plate, now ok. I like the clutch but hard to slip to get just the right traction on the street. Anyway suppose to hold 750/800 whp. I don't have anything near that w this turd. I do have a decent stock flywheel if you need that. One pass on the grinder it'll be perfect.

Get that bitch fixed, way I see it so far you are the only ford that has a chance of winning. I have probably 1 in 100 chance so it'll be a lsx final. Than Ed will beat me and this old dog will go home w nothing.

I've been curious how good those twin disc set-ups work!! I know the one in my circle track car grabs really hard but its all sintered iron disc's. IS it really nessecary to upgrade to the 26 spline input shaft?

I still have stock half shafts so I figure those will break before anything else, I guess with 19" rims on my car wont have enough traction to worry about breaking anything anyway

Just worry about wheelhop about it w street tires. If going racing all out cheap just get the mt et streets bias tire in 17". Don't mess w dr as that's where I broke stuff w the stiff sidewalls. Et street might save input shafts also w the soft sidewalls. At least that's the theory. Yea my 3+ looks like sintered bronze or something. clutch is still pretty grabby, def puts tranny gears to the test. It locks right up w no slip.

isnt the RX7 a twin turbo LS1 with meth injection going. If that car can hook up it should be fast i would think. i guess i dont know if it is a stock LS1 or not.

It has updated axles that are stronger but still not looking to break anything since I just got the car..

I've heard the grand national guys are the meth veterans.

As far as my car, my setup is new this year, never been to the track or dyno, still messing with the tune. Single turbo, stock ls1. I only have 255 tires and my car is geared too low so I may have to shift into 5th gear during my runs. So its hard to say what will happen.

You just need a helmet. I think if your car runs 11.49 or faster you need a roll bar. I'm not sure how strict CFR enforces those rules. Anyone else know?

One reason I picked cfr is they are not so hard azz on rules if you drive it ok. So a helmet should suffice. It isn't like that 2011 car of strickly running a hi 9 w/o a bar or cage. Now that might get you booted. Esp at tristate. The 2nd reason for cfr they do put down traction compound. Tristate they might or might not.

If Dustins rust bucket was fine, we should be good into hi 10's w nothing but a helmet and not acting a azz. They never have said nothing at all to me. Even looking at the car. Ha, Ryan's just talking about my car. I honestly doubt my car will come away with it but it might be competitive.

With the heat I'm hoping for some 10.60-50's if all goes well. And I'm not 100% sure I'm going to drive it all the way there and back on the slicks but I may have to. My tow-vehicle situation isn't ideal at the moment so just driving it might actually be my best option. Gametime decision I guess.

2 pm at cedar falls raceway. How long it lasts I don't know. I do need someones help like Ed or Allgo's buddy Scott. I made a tree for 16 cars. Whether or not that many shows idk. And bottom line need to have someone watch and record each winner as I will be in line and you know how that is. If this gets any bigger next yr going to have a et cutoff of say 13.5 sec or something like 16 fastest cars, idk. Say for some reason it starts to rain or we run out of time we will finish it later that is why this tree needs to be done by someone not racing and reliable. We will get this done and a winner will be determined either tommorrow or another day. We just do what we can and list the winners and then if not done winners get together later and finish it. Or we finish it during the rev hard deal I don't care.

We then write down names on the tree and run them off. 2 qualifying rounds max only. You can do just one if happy w first one. Red light does not count in qualifying and only then. Redlight in run off you are out. If both redlight both are out. Who gets to finish line first wins. Pretty simple. Sportsman tree. That's the plan, lets make it work. Well we ran the cars off and a big success, all in all 10 cars competed of all different varieties but gotta say 03 cobras we had 3 there. And one was the winner a redfire from des moines guy driving named Casey Martin. He put down a 10.52 best. In the final Casey barely out did Joe Logan in his new kick azz corvette. If it would had been 10 ft longer outcome would have been different, it was cobra by a ft or less. Joe got better and better each round also. Definitely most improved. And Josh (Apples 355) wow much improvement also. He ran Joe in semi final and so close again by a few ft or less. I sucked mo or less never got one good run in as didn't check stuff. Only one that could have been good I let off and ran a 11.77 at 93 mph. The car was swaying so bad.. why because one strut was at 5 and other at 1, a bonehead mistake. Then my pcv line blew off and I quit after running Kitch. I had Zac a guy I know do the video and pics and I'm downloading them now and when done I'll put it up. Anyway ppl were pleased, some good racing. And nobody broke except my lil deal I fixed at Caseys.

You need 17" et streets imo. I don't know really what your 60 ft were but first test I pulled a 1.64, it scared me a lil and then later shut it down cause it was swaying way too much. I really think it could have been a low 11, but idk. It has been suggested we do another deal this fall, ppl seemed to like it a lot. Not many manuals duking it out anymore.

Yea that be Josh Applebees, and sorry if I misspell it Josh. Anyway like I said a big azz improvement and that was on drag radials too. Only Joe improved more imo. He just had so much power it took him a while till got it better and he did. Joes 135+ mph is well fast for a manual street car. That's a very low 10 sec time by a auto. Bwtf do I know? This time a 03 cobra won by a few ft or less at less mph. We all did not know who the winner would be a success in my book. Only the very end told the story.

The races that I saw were awesome all pretty close, and it could not have ended better IMO. I know if there was another one of these events in the fall there would be another half dozen or so cars there that couldn't make it yesterday.

What was the 60ft difference between the two? Either way the bar is set high for any of us other turds to compete. It was nice to see everyone get better and better every pass they made. Joes car has got mid/low 10 sec potential with 1.6 60fts or better when the weather conditions get better.

I feel like a putz for not running, but with street tires and poor weather I just couldn't risk damage for a sub par time slip. Ryan did well with the rx7 considering it's non intercooled and running hocky puck tires. I've got dr's on order and should have something to run this fall. Even if it's not official I think everyone should bring them out again later this year. I need a all motor/pump gas class though as my shit is weak.

I had been pulling some decent 1.48-.49 60 ft's but on the final pass I wasn't quite as quick out of the hole. I think it was a 1.58 60' to his 1.71. Being how that car is not a drag racing car in the least bit, a 1.71 60' is super impressive.

Getting a car that can handle with the supercars of the world off the line in any decent fashion is a testiment to his experience.

I think a little longer burnout, less boost and not shifting to 5th at the end is most of it. His short tires, stock 4.10's and powerband make it difficult to finish strong on the big end. Well I think the 11.6 was his 3rd pass ever in the car also :rolleyes: That car needs a tire, turbo cam and intercooler and it will fly.

Imo you were fine and I knew you were busy. I was also but couldn't figure out stuff till going home but wtf we had a good time and gave me a chance to watch the end. Going home it was idling at 1300 rpm and I thought dumbass it has a vacuum leak. I looked and the pcv hose was off. It's really a good thing I didn't do anything more cause might have leaned it out too much. We'll do another unofficial runoff again this fall. Dumb question but are you the yellow mustang I raced in the first round? It gets so confusing with people's usernames on here and then we you meet people at the track you have to connect a username to the real name. We should all make sure our signatures have our real name and car in there.

I actually handed Rob my timeslip for my 2nd pass which was 11.9 so he put me in the bracket according to that.

My first pass was 12.3 cuz I had to shift to 5th. Ed C. basically told me to stop being a pussy and move the rev limiter to 7k and that is what I needed to cross the line at 127mph with my 4.10 rear. I really didn't want to rev that high as my stock cam doesn't make any power up there anyway. I'm able to fit a one inch taller tire so thats what I'll buy before next time I go to the track. The rx7 has no gear options so the high power guys have to swap mustang rears in it to get away from the 4.10 .

That vette really was all bad azz and so eveyrone knew that. That fkr w Joe driving, I know him all he could do is get better and that's no sh-t. I was all surprised he did a low 12 at first qualifying, but he got down to business right away. I went holy crap, it's a 135+ mph how the fk going to run w that? Yet Casey cut a better light as we seen and held on for the win. A ford wins again... Hey that's the facts. I for sure thought a turbo lsx would do all us in but vito was right, a bad boy 03 stang cleaned up. So like it or not a stang did all of us in and he drove here, a real bonus imo. As far as my sh-t goes it was stupid, I admit that didn't even come close in anyway to last yr that is the facts. But in the end didn't mean sh-t as Joes vette and Caseys 03 cobra dominated the runoff. We all had a good time and we will do it again this fall. And no g/d slicks, only et streets at best. I know 700 whp is bad azz already with crappy shifting. Yea Joe will figure a way to fit bias et streets or qtp and do that sh-t next time. So guys figure that's no sh-t. He has no problemo perfecting his vette. Trust me not all happy about that but 135+ mph it looks bad imo.
