SVO's are the bees knees of mustangs, props dude
Also along with the paint, a new SVO repop fiberglass hood, all new NOS SVO headlights(Cost a small fortune and my left arm), new repop SVO tailights, Torque box and control arm reinforcements (Battle boxes), subframe connectors, new weatherstripping all around, new window channel runs, outer window moldings(dew wipes), new body moldings and rocker panels are all being put in at the same time. The factory hood was slightly tweaked so I figured if I needed another hood may as well try and save a little weight on the front, the SVOs allready have around 52/48 so if that can be improved I will try.
Cool car, pretty unique. 14 isnot bad at all considering how close to stock it was.
Thanks. With my luck after I get the engine finished it will still only be a 14 second car, not because of the car but because I suck at the track, only been twice. I'm not sure what it will run after these mods but most SVO's with the same modifications are in the low 12's, but that being said there are some guys running stock head and turbo in the 11's with who really know what they are doing and can push the envelope without breaking stuff. I tried picking a combo thats been proven on a lot of cars to be dependable and quick although lag will be more noticeable, full spool for most with this combo around 3200-3800, full spool stock T3 turbo around 2500 for my car.
looking forward to seeing the paint job
Me too. Its like having christmas twice this year.
Got some bad news today. Car wont be done for another few weeks :( .
I cannot wait to dig into this thing in the spring. This car is the reason I just don't ever get excited about the vert. When I would drive both of them on the same day I would hate driving the vert because it felt like a bloated luxo cruiser vs. a go-cart. There really is that much of a handling difference and feel between these two cars. I axed the Holset too, sold it and decided to go with a 50 trim T04E, the Holset would be a blast I am sure but I also drive this thing on the street and not hitting full boost till 4k is just not worth it.
nice to see some progress, will be great to see driving around
Will look great when done. Saw your sig changed for the Vert, buy some heads did you??? Nice set-up if so!
If you check out my engine swap thread you will see that I built this engine with the GT40's, everything in my sig has about 12k miles on it right now.
My main issue is most likely tuning, I have a quarterhorse but beyond changing the injector sizing and simple changes that I have read about, I am lost, so it basically has the factory tune changed for injectors. I really want to get a dyno tune but nearly every shop I have called that are local have failed to return my calls and emails.
Yeah you might have to travel some to find someone to tune with the quarterhorse. Defintely some extra power available with a tune.
Yea, in the spring if I can squeeze it in I want to put on a meth kit before a dyno tune, but I may be in over my head timewise with what I have planned on the SVO. Since the SVO has a closet full of parts to include a portion of our small shed my fiance has made it clear which car is getting worked on next.
I believe Lund Motors in Waukee does QH.
I will try to get a hold of them again. I sent them an email to get a quote for tuning my setup but they never got back to me. I may just have to call them to get their attention, I am sure they get all sorts of emails from tire kickers.
Just got off the phone with the shop. The photos I just posted up are about week old, but there should be some new ones this weekend. They finished painting everything except the front bumper and are going to start the finishing process and reassembly soon.
Edit- Called SVPU to check up on the header panel and it is ready to ship, they are trying to find a shipper that is reasonably priced for me at the moment. Should be out the door next week.
Cool, will have to post up pics asap with the paint laid.
Will do.
sweet
lookin good i always kind thought if i was gunna change colors white might be what i did
Looks great!
Thanks for the replies. I am getting anxious to see this thing in person. When I pick it up on the 7th it will be going straight into storage with the convertible until spring so I will have to make sure to get lots of pictures.
Nothing wrong with a white 86 SVO :)
Always good to see another one getting some love, should be a blast when you get everything together.
Really makes me want to give my SVO some much needed love.
Thats a beautiful SVO. SVO's always need some love, problem is they are high dollar hookers so you can't always afford to give them love all the time, at least in my case. I've owned mine for 8 years now, and its needed a paint job since well before I have owned it. Unfortunately when I was younger it was never within my financial reach to drop the money into it that was needed and I didnt want to half ass it. Now that I am older and have my finances in order its nice to get it taken care of finally. To be honest I really think it would have been a lot cheaper for me to have just sold this one and purchased a nice one but I am to stubborn for that.
I hear that. I bought mine in 96, it needed paint then as well due to a partial repaint from it having a bra, and that repaint cracked.
Yea mine was the same way, it had a cheap repaint sometime in its distant past and the paint was covered in tiny cracks. It wasnt noticeable from a a few feet away but up close it looked horrible. Hopefully when spring rolls around I will have this engine finished up. Then I will have an excuse to clean up the bay and hide all the wires. It will be nice to just enjoy the car.
Unless something goes wrong I am picking it up this weekend.
wish i was gettin mine back!!!! congrats

That sucks, hopefully after all that BS its flawless and meets your expectations.
Edit - No more Debby downing! I am sure it will look amazing I just have to get over the price/fuckover depression before posting on the interweb.
I think theirs a law against this, like 10% max over estimate cost.
I believe we told you to get it out of there earlier in the summer ;) probably could get out of some of that money if you wanted to pursue legal action
