holy crap you can cast the turbine housing. haha
very colorful selection btw.

I knew some smart-ass would comment about making the turbine housing. I figured that would be obvious. Honestly I'm suprised Mathew didn't say something, just had to be you Colton....

Why coat the piping post turbo? For looks?

holding the heat within the exhaust pipe does increase exhaust gas velocity. But Im sure its mostly for looks and keeping as much heat out of the bay as possible.

it'll probably help prevent corrosion over bare metal as well

Right, high velocity is great pre turbo, but post turbo the higher temps cause more back pressure. Another plus to the coating is your floor boards should stay nice and cool.

thats still a street car, full interior and heat shields...all that JUNK. I hate that word back pressure (scavenging), hes got 3.5" exhaust, I think he can do about anything and be ok.

having some back pressure can gain power; thats why they make header extensions for racecars

The reason for coating the downpipe is to keep the heat in the bay down. Main reason is to keep the alternator alive. It's literally inches away from the downpipe and tubine housing. It will also increase velocity getting the gases out. I don't have any problems with back-pressure. Maybe if i had 2.5" exhaust I may have to worry about it, but even then not really.

thats non-turbo, still bad.

technically you could say a turbo creates the same effect, couldnt you?
Drifte

technically a turbo takes away the surging and thus the opportunity to create a scavenging effect making exhaust size much less important, and free flowing about the only issue...if thats what you ment.

i was just thinking of a turbo as more restrictive than an open pipe.

well sure in that sense, theirs lag.

idk everything here but my experience and from what ive heard discussing things with quite a few people, back pressure is needed more so on N/A cars to an extent for mid range torque, a really open exhaust will kill mid range. turbo chargers provide enough back pressure and doesn't really matter how open the exhaust is after the turbine...again i do not know it all just tryin to get some ideas tossed around

damnit brent. Im gonna either find a write up or make one. Wait, im to busy and lazy right now. so backpressure bad, velocity good. 2 strokes another story

to end this debate, back-pressure is good to a certain extent for non-turbo. Free-flowing/velocity is good for turbo. I think we can all agree on that. There's a reason why turbo guys take off their exhausts and run just open downpipes at the track. And if you've ever owned a turbo car..driving with stock exhaust vs. say an open 3" downpipe, there is an absolute huge difference in performance and it sure doesn't kill it.

Ive never heard back pressure was ever good. velocity and scavenging are good.

sorry colton, i had to say something... i know that if you take a 4 stroke 4 wheel and put a hollow exhause on it, it increases top end but kills your mid range. now i know that is a 4 wheeler but in theory its still a N/A motor just a tiny one

your right it really does effect the power band. But its not back pressure your looking for their. Really from what they have taught me at Rec. motorsports was you may want to decrease velocity, but not back pressure...hard to understand until they show you what they mean.

I can't view a thing. I want to see the turbine housing & the piping color.

I got a suggestion...READ A BOOK! Exhaust gas velocity is the most important thing, along with the scavenging effect in a header equipped vehicle (not naturally aspirated, but anything using a properly designed header/s) "back pressure" creating power is a wives tale based on people not looking at what is happening. If you want low end power and torque you will optimise your exhaust size based on the flow of exhaust gasses at those RPM's, and an exhaust sized to provide an optimal gas velocity at 2500 RPM is going to be choking the shit out of the same engine at 4000 RPM. Back Pressure=/=Power in any shape or form. An appropriately sized exhaust will provide power in certain RPM ranges.
