So, i thought these where suppose to be way up or something?
I haven't scrapped anything since 2003 which was that big ass green truck that Prairie's shop class had PACKED full of blocks, heads, cranks, rotors, etc... dang thing was too heavy for our 10,000 pound winch on out car trailer and actualy bent the 3/8" I-beams we had for ramps... ANYWAYS i got like clost to $500 for that stuff.

I went in today with my "new" truck loaded down with a bunch of engine blocks, heads, cranks, cams, etc.... and walked out with $84.60 and the load was 940 pounds meaning i got $.09 per pound...? I know i could have gotten a little more if i would have seperated teh aluminum trans cases, water pumps, timing covers and such but i didn't want to get dirty...

for some reason, i wanted to say 10 cents a pound was about average, but i could be wrong. sucks about the studie and continental though...

$120 a ton (what Alters has been giving out lately for #3 or #4 steel)
2000 lbs in a ton
so we take $120 divided by 2000 lbs
and we get $0.06 per pound.

I assume you went to Marion Iron?

Steel isn't worth a whole lot in Cedar Rapids, you need to take it direct to the shredder, they pay significantly more.

Alum. Copper, stainless and your other non ferrous stuff is where the money is. they also probably dinged you for not sorting your metals out, which they now have to go do for you, so its worth less to them.

I always take my junk to that place in CR off 6th. Taking radiators, junk aluminum and copper is my favorite thing to do.

Rhodium is where it's at, if I had a 100 # of that stuff (9k per oz)... Converters make some $ too, along w wire and copper pipe. So someone says house demo or burn ask if u can salvage. Reason china. They need copper.

Called around to all the scrap yards in the area and the best I found was Alter Scrap Processing in Davenport/Rock Island. They told me 200/ton . I easily have 1.5k sitting in scrap at my garage. Time to haul it away!
