$12k seems a bit excessive, but who knows. really shitty though; but then, ive heard lots of horror stories about "professional" install jobs...

You have to think of it in terms of a dealership. Your not going to just fix those wires. The dealership is going to replace like the whole wiring harness, any motors, relays, solenoids that were connected. (Due to the possibility they could be damaged)
Its just like my job. If I tell someone that they needs shoes, drums, pads, rotors. We aren't going to just put pads on for them. Its either we fix the brakes or it goes down the road. Its a safety thing.

One of the guys here had to replace a headlight relay, Honda had him replace the whole wiring harness. So yeah, it can be kinda insane when you know it's only one piece thats bad but you have to replace everything thats in the area.
