Picture of the actual pre production Camaro. I think the concept looked alot better and I didn't really like that one.

I think she looks pretty good. Still has a pretty good roofline too, seeing as how they were worried that they had to raise it and it might be really noticable. Wish they had it driving around in a diff color though, white is gross.

I do say i like the ZR1!!

now the question is; will the ZR1 engine make it into the Camaro?

ZEE

I bet it don't because GM wants you to buy there 100 thousand dollar Vette to get that engine instead of a 30 thousand dollar Camaro.

i think fully option camaros will be getting closer to 35-40k, dont you?

Well if their going to stay competitive with the mustang they will need to be in the $25-35k range depending on options. Just pricing an 08 bullitt is about $32k without adding all the optional accessories to the vehicle.

That's really a shame, the camaro they had at the autoshow was much better looking with the spoilers and stripes, a little less common-looking, kinda disappointed but oh well, I guess it is up to the people who are gonna shell out $40k+ for that thing lol.

ya doubt the ls9 will make it. there is talk of the ls8, and they still have the ls7 laying around, so I'm not too worried. There are many special editions to come I'm sure. Mallet had an ls7 in a solstice within the 1st month of them being out, so some company or someone will probably have an engine swapped within the 1st month of them being out (because 400-440hp range just doesn't cut it these days haha).

I bet this is what the V6 model will look like. and they'll add on the body moldings, spoiler and larger wheels for the Z28 models.

Judging by the 'vettes Mallet has put out over the years its safe to say he could make that camaro a real screamer.

ls7 will be at the end of its lifetime and most likely wont make it into a camaro

I love my mustangs, but Ford better do something to try to keep up. The new camaros are bad ass.

Hopefully camaro will be priced well and run fine like the old ls1's did. I can beat those stock.

As far a mustang goes or the challenger what I think needs to be done somehow is lighten those things up. It improves performance, gets better mileage, handles better. You figure these new cars w a alum block and heads are lighter than the old yet the car is a porky pig. You can't tell me a 300 to 400 hp car can't do good weighing 3k tops. A couple of cobra guys have gone well into the 10's w less weight on the eaton w a pulley. That's only a example of what I know.

Did they end up raising the roof at all? I remember they were saying the concept cabin sat pretty low, which looks good and still had plenty of room, but gave it poor rear view. That pic doesn't look like they did, unless the did it in a very small amount. And rear side markers that flow with the body... looks good

I don't really care what the final version looks like. What I want to see is a 3.0k# car max weight and 400hp would do fine imo. Reason i say that some others might get off their buttocks and make a lighter pony car. It's sink or swim azzholes. 4k# porky pigs have got to go. If we make it out of alum fine. If it is a lil noisy so be it, we always put exhaust on anyways. If a damn old fox stang can do it # wise easy enough, a new camaro should be lot's better. Oh yea we got a monaro gto at 3960# w 220# driver almost forgot....Alum block, heads, tranny and it still weighed like a porky pig. I chewed it up easy enough w/o trying on just the 12#. We weighed within 50# btw. Not another one of them please....those didn't sell too good either.

new g8 weighs in at 4100 lbs, challenger is a little above that

dont see the camaro being much lighter given the weights of the other cars built on the same platform.

starts to make the gt500 look not so heavy, especially w/ a big heavy blower on top and DOHC

That's what I mean porky pigs, then u need big rotors and pads more # added, the list is endless. Bottom line u end up having to get more hp to do same as lower hp, less gas mileage and more breakage when u put some tires on. Trust me, I know this formula. Ppl want reasonable around town gas mileage, run on 93 tops, prefer 91 for sure. Why the hell did the srt challenger weigh so much, bs I say. I bet $$$ Adam's or zee's car will beat it w equal tires. I just put a battery in to lose some pork. Maybe I'll do mo, but all this the factory could do, they put a 50+# hood on my car, stupid imo. Time for the engineers allowed to do something. The engine work is about peaked out, time to do weight reductions pronto...

look at this..per ur weight figures for a srt challenger, same 200# guy...+ 1 sec. difference worse case, not counting gas mileage, brake pad use, etc. Btw my ol 94 tbird w ohc, iron block, irs weighs less at 3.8k w me in it. A huge boat 2dr car. Damn thing barely fits the garage.

Just buy a 3200 pound ZR1. :)

You know u want a 3 to 3.2k# camaro for say 38k maybe 40k w 400 to 425 hp. That might get 20+ mpg around town 28 on the hiway go 11's w a drag radial. I am sorry jacking ur thread but we need some lighter weight cars. I don't want a corvette. Already pay enough insurance to those grabbers...

I don't think it will ever happen though. Look at the Vette. Small, light weight car and 3200 pounds. And that us using light weigh carbon fiber, fiberglass and aluminum to reach that light weight. But look at the size. For a car that size even the Vette is a little heavy. By todays construction standards for safety and such the camaro would have to be a 2 seater the size of a vega to reach that weight. I think production light weight cars are gone until a cheap lightweight material becomes available.

You know..... if you got rid of that heavy blower you could save a little weight.:)

people just demand more comfort in cars these days as well. theyre going to be heavy, no way around it. just deal with it.

P.S. - I have an article on a SRT8 Magnum(4,400lb race weight) that ran 12.80's bone stock(auto trans, even had factory oil in it). with bolt ons and tune it ran a 12.3 and then broke a half shaft on the next pass. probably wouldnt have happened if the car was lighter, but what can you do?

Well there could be a write in campaign started. Back in early 90's it was rumored no more rwd stang (Just a frt wheel drive probe mazda) so millions of ppl wrote ford.
