CornBall Run 2008 is coming up soon. May 24th.

If you haven't heard of it, that's because this is just the second year for the Des Moines annual CornBall Run. We have one start/finish location and 10 undisclosed checkpoints around the state of Iowa. At the start, each team receives the locations of all 10 checkpoints. Checkpoints can be reached in any order and by any route. This makes navigation and efficiency more important then pure speed.

Entry fees start at $50 and go up as the event comes closer, so get signed up now!

To sign up or for more info, visit the website at http://www.cornballrun.com

Also feel free to ask if you have any questions. I should be online daily or email me at staff@cornballrun.com

Usually around 300 miles and pavement, but each team chooses the order they get to each checkpoint and the route they take, so the roads are up to you. I try to pick checkpoints away from the interstate, so most driving is 2-lane highway.

And everyone is welcome to use GPS, but I can tell you the winners in the trial run and in the last even just used a regular map and the GPS users were further back in the pack.

How many cars do you have pre-registered now? Me and my buddy are wanting to do this. Looks like fun. What time will the event start on Sat? Does it have to be a car or can it be motorcycles?

If there are other motorcyclists I'll bust out my green machine and make an appearance.

The first entry fee increase is coming up soon (April 15th). So if you're planning on participating, send your registration info to staff@cornballrun.com before then to get the lowest entry fee.

The start/finish location is almost confirmed. It should be released by April 1st. But I can tell you for sure that it will be in the Des Moines area.

Would anyone be interested in CornBall Run decals for the event? I have thought about decals or magnets, but I'm not sure how many people would put them on the side of their car for fear of scratching. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Can I be a spectator/ take lots of pics and get some cool stickers? My car sucks, unless my friends are taking a car.

Ooh lets take randomheros trailblazed.

The start/finish location should be released and posted this weekend. You are more then welcome to show up there to watch the start and finish, but only paid entries will receive checkpoint maps.

Also, it doesn't require a fast car. Take a look at the results from last year. Also, we have a Smart fortwo registered this year and while they're actually pretty cool little cars, I'm sure it doesn't go very fast.

maybe i'll shoot for next year in the Sunbeam; or the truck. i'd rather the Sunbeam though; flying through the countryside with the wind blowing sounds like a blast....

I did it last year. We used GPS to start off with and it was a pain in the ass. So we got out a reg map and used gps at same teime and it went alittle smoother.

CornBall Run 2008 is coming closer. The start/finish location has finally been established and will be posted on the website sometime very soon. This year’s event will start and finish in the circle parking lot of the old science center just south of the Art Center and Grand Ave in Des Moines. I will post a map link below for a more specific location. Considering that the CornBall Run requires some amount of navigation skill, hopefully you all can find it. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate ask.

The following link should take you to Google maps with a pinpoint at the start/finish location.
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie ... 4&t=h&z=11 (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=112902450032770980698.00044a4c0e3de2d37dd87&ll=41.623142,-93.633041&spn=0.259724,0.639954&t=h&z=11)

I also wanted to remind all of you that the first entry fee increase is April 15th which is only a few days away. The entry fee will change from $50 to $75, and then up to $100 after May 15th. So if you haven’t sent your registration email in yet, you might want to get that done.

This year, we are going to try to provide all participating teams with a CornBall Run 2008 magnet, sticker, or window cling (possibly some of each). However, I’ve had mixed reactions to this idea, so if there is one of the listed items that you would NOT put on you car for at least this event, please let me know as soon as you can, so I can order the correct items and amounts. Thanks.

Last but not least, I will list some of the currently registered teams.

Dodge Stealth R/T Twin Turbo
VW Jetta VR6
Chevy Cobalt SS
Audi S4
Mazda Miata
MINI Cooper S
Jag XKE V12
Smart fortwo
and others....

Tell everyone you know about the event! The more people involved, the bigger the prize!
Thanks all.
Jared

Nope sorry. Just one per year. It takes a ton of time for me to organize this and I obviously can't participate or get paid. I enjoy doing it, but once a year is all I can handle.

We'll do it again next year. Probably first Sat in June.
