what gauges?

i am trying to decide what gauges i want to go with in my Duster. i have basically narrowed down my choices to either Autometer Ultralite gauges, or the Autometer Cobalt gauges.

they both have pros and cons, but i am looking for opinions. i think blue colored gauges might look a little weird in a crimson colored car(if i go with that color), but so would white/silver gauges in an all black interior. so in case you dont know what they look like, here they are:

The Autometer Ultralites are eaiser to read but there is just some thing about the cobalt gauges that I like.......

Cobalts are expensive and are REALLY bright at night.

I'd say Ultra-lights...plus don't you have like 3 ultra-light gauges already :neener:

yeah, but i was going to put those three into my truck; wont be needed boost or EGT gauges in my Duster. i might just go with the Ultralites though; if the numbers on the Cobalts glowed white i would like them a lot more, but what can you do?

All I have to say is autometer gauges suck royal ass "especially fuel pressure" but the others seem to hold up well.. I already went through 4 or 5 autometer fuel pressure gauges, both the small 1-1/8 and the 2-5/8 all screwed up on me, make sure you inspect them close before even opening up the package. FYI I like the ultra lites :bigthumb:

dustin, in the cobalts, its just a blue 194 light bulb in them to make them light up blue (if its mechanical) you could always try swapping the blue light bulb out for a regular white one and see what happens...i loved my cobalt a/f gauge in the talon. it was sweet. matter of a fact i still have it haha

I hated that Cobalt gauge ^^...didn't match anything else I had in the Talon.

I have all AEM type gauges in my 2g. Aem Wideband, boost, and fuel/oil pressure. All electrical and digital. It's very nice to just glance over and see a nice bright digital XX.XX number. Very easy to read and also goes with any interior. All of them usually come with a white and black faceplate as well as a silver and black ring, so matching it to any interior is even easier. Just my .02

i wouldnt mind having a digital AEM gauge and wideband for my car. maybe a mix of AEM and Ultralite. thats probably the route i'll go unless some neat gauges pop up in the mean time.

I've got the Ultra Lite II's. They have LED's instead of regular bulb. During the day they look like regular ultra lites. But at night they light up with a black face with white lite up numbers. I didn't like the way the regular ultra lites lit up at night.

Cobalts look too "sport compact/import" for muscle car IMO...

i vote "other"... Pro Comp, Nexus, may be even cobra

im just wondering if i want to go with mechanical or electrical guages. the electrical ones would make for a really clean engine bay, but i like the reliability of mechanical gauges. they are also cheaper. any opinions there?

depends what gauges you need. list the gauges you require, then we can tell you better. Theirs some that are a few gauges in one if you for example require a wbo2.

tach, speedo, water temp, oil pressure, volt, fuel pressure, nitrous pressure, fuel pressure(nitrous). i suppose i wouldnt need a constant A/F gauge, but it would be neat...

It'd be cool to see old school with new technology. Using one of the all in one digital gauge clusters. Or utilizing a super sleek motorcycle all in one. All of which would be pretty bad-ass.

i cant find the real nice ones designed for auto use. But their out their if you like the idea of 1 single unit.

i really dont know how much i would like all digital gauges in my car. im not trying to change the world or make a statement with it, just going with proven stuff that i like and that works.

im leaning towards Ultralite II's now...

ultraliteII's would look the best IMO. i like how they still look older, but the illumination is a lot cleaner looking

I'd get anything Pressure or Temperature in electrical gauges. You can use mechanical and run the braided lines into the dash, but the price will start to rack up and you still aren't guranteed it won't leak.

Ultra-light II's are pretty nice, and I'd get everything electrical minus the tach and speedo...but those may be electrical anyways, idk I just use my stock gauges for those :yawinkle:

If you are getting all of those gauges...I'd steer away from AEM, because it will cost you an arm and a leg. They would be really accurate and dependable, but man the price would be huge.

yeah, thats kindof why im leaning towards them. i dont really like the look of new style digital gauges in older cars; at least not unless the whole car is done up modern, which mine obviously wont be.
