Hey Mediacom customers....

Can you guys test your speeds to let me know if it's where it should be (Approx 6,000-7500 kpbs should be expected).

The other day mine dipped down to about 250kbps and then was back up to 7,500kbps and now I'm around 1,500-2,500kbps. I'm just really confused at the inconsistancy and was curious if anyone else is noticing a problem.

I just got 1966 download and 488 upload. Throughput should be at least 5,000kbps considering the allotment is 7,500kbps.

i like mediacom for the most part. I like them as a company... I just hate cable in general. I prefer satellite but I don't think I can get it where I am due to my limited exposure to the western sky.

But cable internet is the bomb....usually. Just lately I've been having some issues with mine. meh.

see thats weird. Wonder whats going on at mediacom. Everyone should be getting at least 5000kbps minimum.

That's why I don't want to have a tech come out to my house because I have a feeling it's not something they can fix.

Yeah just now I got about 7600....

They've gotta be overloading themselves during the day or something. I'll check again tomorrow during the day and see if it's crappy speeds again.

Dick.

I can't get imON here for some reason. They have a small coverage area I think.

My internet is fine right now. For all you mediacom folk, though, I'd check your speeds on a fairly regular basis, especially if it's feeling slow. The other day my internet was slow all day. It was testing at under 400kbps all day, and I cycled my modem at least 3 times (restarted it) and I tried restarting my modem and computer. Everything that comes standard with a tech support call to any internet company. Still, 400kbps all day. I was mad because trying to view a video online that was say, 20mb took about 20 times longer than it should have.

They do have a pretty spotty coverage area. My house now is the first residence I have had that I have been able to get something other then Mediacom. It could be worse, you could have Dynamic Broadband. The worst ISP EVER. We have it at work and if it is windy, rainy, cloudy, snowy or a bird flies in between us and the tower our internet goes down. Not to mention the fact that it is almost always slow. We have a advertised 3Mbps and we are lucky if we get 1.

I guess being an employee help. Zac PM me your address and I can check some stuff out Monday when I get to the office, and can get back to you with where the problem is at.

You're the man IPOC.

See I had called (or rather, Ashley called) and we had an appt to have someone come out here the other day, but then on the very day the person was scheduled to come out, I tested my speed about 20 times and got perfectly fine results.

PM sent.

With media com I honestly think their growing really really quick. Part of the problem I was having about 3-4 month ago was we had a really old modem that was out-dated which wasn't working with the newer(upgrades) system they had. Got a new modem and it's been just fine. The tech did say other then that there was a lot of re-routing of the nodes people were setup on to be able to lighten the loads at peak times. What you need to do if your having problems is write down the time and date your having problems and give them a call if it's seeming to be a pretty constant problem so they actually know if they are getting an over load.

I don't know if they can monitor or if they do the traffic in certain areas but it'd be a good spot to let them know their seems to be a problem so they can address it. I just did it now and had 7.51MB/s down and .47MB/s up to the twin cities

I've been talking with Keith (IPOCpresident) these last couple days as he is a Mediacom employee. Last night I was able to realize the approximate time that this was occurring every night, and Keith confirmed what you (Micah) just said. Just over-usage in my area at certain times of day.

Not a huge deal. It is temporary, and at some point I'm sure they will correct the problem. I never actually lose my internet connection so that's what is important. I can deal with slower download speeds for a little while in the evening (I actually work in the evenings anyways) as long as I have internet for the things I need like schoolwork and such, etc.
