We haven't had a good wholesome conversation on this site in a while, so lets get this started.

What will be your next daily driver, and why?

The information I'm looking for are pictures if possible, price range of the vehicle, and simply the reason why you want to make it your next daily driven car.

Here's mine:

A 2007 or 2008 Toyota Yaris

http://www.uncrate.com/men/images/2006/05/toyota-yaris.jpg

It's a newbie to American roads, but the Yaris is currently Toyota's number 1 selling vehicle over in Europe right now. It's a cheap car, even brand new. MSRP is between $11,750 and $14,500 depending on whether you want the Liftback (hatchback, pictured) or the sedan. Here are the main reasons I want this car:

- Voted #1 most reliable compact car by Money Magazine(Considering all 07 and 08 models), and is also on Money's list of "Best bet to reach 200,000 miles"
- Has a 34/40 EPA MPG rating for city and highway respectively. Or otherwise just a shade worse than my motorcycle, and it is NOT a hybrid.
- Comes standard with a CD player with MP3/WMA playback
- Performance is comparable (actually a little better) than the 97 Cavalier I am currently driving.
- I also like the way the dash is set up... kinda different. (Pictured below)

http://i.treehugger.com/files/toyota-yaris-sh-05.jpg

I should also mention that the next car we buy will be for Ashley, so while I think this is an awesome car also, it probably isn't what I would chose for myself. Not to say that I'd choose something sportier or anything like that, but perhaps something a little bigger than this. I would probably go with the Ford Fusion if I had to choose right now.

So what about you guys? Post up your choice for your next daily driver, and try to persuade the rest of us that we should consider it too.

in the next year or two, i plan on buying a brand new 2009-2010 Dodge Challenger. not exactly a practical car, but who cares? look at it! it wont technically be a DD, it'll never see snow, but when i get one, i plan on driving the pants off of it.

http://images.automobilemag.com/auto_shows/naias_2006/0602_naias_01+2009_dodge_challenger_concept+rear_r ight_view.jpg

i know full well that the Challenger i buy will be north of $40k, and thats fine. im willing to sacrifice for it. i dont ever plan on buying a new car ever again, so i'll splurge this one time.

why you ask? 6.1L(370ci) 425hp Hemi engine backed by a 6 speed and RWD. what else do you need? im not exactly a fan of IRS cars, so we'll see how that goes. ive been watching the aftermarket for parts the Challenger will use, and considering a limited slip differential costs over $2500, it'd almost seem like a more viable option to get a whole aftermarket rearend for the thing and go with a solid axle. we'll see.

i have also been reading rumors that Chrysler is developing a 6.6L (403ci) Hemi for the Challenger as well. i havent heard any horsepower figures yet, but the 5.7L makes 345hp. the 6.1 makes 425hp. what do you think they could make with another half litre of displacement?

IMO that yaris is bout as ugly as they get. I've been in a car that had the dash set up like that (toyota echo) and it was probably the most annoying thing I could imagine having, and would only make sense if you were cross eyed and ergonomics is the exact opposite of your goal. Those challegers will be beasts. 09, new camaro, new challenger, new pony sometime around there. it's gonna be an all out brawl.

as for my next DD, id prefer either a 99-02 chevy 2500 HD with a duramax if i could ever afford one. i miss having something 4x4 that i could beat the crap out of, and not have to worry about the season or terrain. I wouldn't mind having a diesel to play around with either

I am not really a big fan of Chrysler vehicles, but that car is damn pretty. I just bought a new DD a few years ago so I won't be getting a new one anytime soon, but when I do it will more then likely be a new Chevy Silverado, just a newer version of what I have now. This is my second Silverado and I don't know if i could go back to a car. It is nice to be able to get around in the winter when cars can't.

hm if i could get a DD, i'l like to get some sort of newer honda or toyota. Something that's going to last a long time and not have any problems with. Also something i'm not going to be tempted to modify. I probably won't be getting another car anytime soon but my gf is looking into getting a new Toyota Corolla. I like them. The end..

oh by the way the gauges in the Challenger are rediculously ugly. I realize they are trying to go back to that "retro" styling of the older challengers but damn. I'd like the interior updated in modern technology and looks...not a revamp of some old shit. It's like having those gauges you'd think you'd have a carbed motor and some doors that sound like a car accident when you close them. On the up-side the outside looks very nice :bigthumb:

I won't get a DD for a long time, I'll be driving the current cars into the ground. Although if I'm lucky I'll be able to convince the wife to purchase this car in the next two years....

The hardest part will be to justify the +40k price tag for the LS2 V8 version. But like DustinsDuster said, just look at it. It may not be what is considered a daily but it will be driven the majority of the time.

one of the 09+ tauruses, twin force/sho of course

or the commodores/g8s should be pretty badass, although i think the pontiac grill makes it uglier than the holden car

I'm with you Trevor. You and me are just getting old I think. You have your toys, and then you have your daily drivers, and there's gotta be a very thick thick line between them. For a DD I want something that's going to get me 30-40mpg and is reliable...gunna last me a long long time.

You know, based on the expense the average person incurs by buying new cars and trading them in 5 years later for another new car, they say you can save $30,000 if you can purchase 1 car and drive it for 200,000 miles. That's factoring all the maintenance and repair things expected of a car as it gets older. $30,000.... that is staggering. I'd rather drive 1 car for 200k and keep my $30k. Hellz yes.

I'm currently having that dilemma (what do I want for my next DD) and I've narrowed it down to just all wheel drive cars. I'm looking at the WRX - or cheap STi- and the Evo mainly. Its not going to be new obviously but newer, I've also taken to Audi's so the S4 is a good possibility as well. Maybe an Volkswagen R32 if I can't find an Audi that I like, they have two of them for sale in Iowa City. Honestly though unless something big happens to the car I currently have I won't be upgrading for a good year or two, trying to save up for a condo or small house.

its funny, everything you say you dont like about it, i love about it, hehehe. anyway, i honestly doubt the interior of the actual challengers will have an interior like that. its a concept car, they are trying to grab attention with it. i highly doubt the interior will even sport digital gauges at all. just what i think. personally, i like the brushed aluminum console with a modern "glock" style shifter.

Ha well if I ever own a Supra, the Talon would be thrown into DD mode in about 2 seconds. I'm talking stock motor and t-25 with 450's and a stock pump. Bone stock DD with a FMIC :)

Well, seeing as my current car and the previous car was a shop car, the next will most likely be a different shop car. I probably won't own a car for a few years yet and will still drive a car for free other than gas.

If I were to buy a car for a DD, it would probably be between a Caliber, Avenger, or a Charger.

assuming this means you get only 1 DD, than I would want something awd, good on gas mileage...I think I'd get a toyota pickup. Have a dsm for fun....shoot i couldnt do that, id dd a dsm, and maybe have a pretty rwd toy in the garage.

I was going to buy this riced out beast for $500 and then drive it around with a for sale sign for $1500 and hopefully have some ricer buy it. But the guy selling it messed up all the heater controls and gutted it all out.

get a mustang...4cylinder one would be good.

Gotta be a mustang, probably a 05-08. I love how they look like an old car, and with a blower on there it would be awesome to drive and do some smokey burnouts in. Gotta have the hurst shifter in it though. I think next summer I just might have to get a new style mustang, mostly stock engine for driveability and a decent nitrous set-up on it would be the way to go, I dont have time to wait for boost... :supz:

The way I look at it is that Im a car guy and I love to drive cool cars, not just on the weekend but all the damn time so its worth it to me to spend the extra money on gas and insurance just I can go get the excitment of a v-8 burning off the tires anytime I want.. Life is too damn short to drive a smart car..but this one is kinda cool.
