Georgia and Alabama are known for some serious 1/8 mi Grudge races, with big money involved. Here is a clip of Mike "the hitman" Hill against Edmond Hall at Phenox City, AL For 25,000 (hill is in the Outlaw 10.5 mustang) Hill got the hit since he is running a 10.5

this was a race between 2 guys for over 100K at the same event (phenix city grudge fest) from what it sounds like there is just as much if not more money that excages hands in the stands as there is between the two racers at this event

Byron Dragway is the same way during the wheelstand competition. People getting into it and the lack of crowd control, It makes it all the more nuts.
1/8 mile racing down south is some of the best drag racing you will ever see, Huge crowds EVEN bigger purses (50, 60 K to win) so the racers will do anything to win.

Wes Buck (editor of Drag Illstrated) tried to get some 1/8 mile shootout stuff going in Iowa, and had mild sucess in Eddyville, but then tried Cordova and did not get a good enough turnout to make it worth while again.

I agree with All Go. There has always been big money grudge races, but like anything the cars have got faster and the money won/lost has got bigger

just curious, why 1/8th mile? is it just because a majority of the tracks down there are 1/8th mile or is there a reason they prefer it over 1/4?

Most of the tracks are 1/8 mile, but it makes for awsome racing, Considering that the Outlaw Pro mods run in the high 3's at almost 200 mph you can tell they are pouring it all on and fast.
