Just curious if any does and has any idea what patient care techs make or what the starting pay for an EMT-B on an ambulance is?

Going to be taking the Iowa Paramedic class starting this fall and was wondering what kind of jump in pay their is.

I have tried asking the paramedics here (center point) but no one knows the basic pay rates and seem to be pretty hush hush on what they make.

Patient Care Techs at Mercy pay at least $10 an hour I think. I dont know for sure girl. That is what one of the girls was bragging about but I wouldnt recommend working there. They like to fuck everyone in the ass so yea....I would go to Lukes they pry pay more and they are a lot more organized.

No job that requires any sort of college education would ever pay only $10 an hour. Even a non salary position for a fresh out of college student with a 2 year technical degree will pay $13+. You can make more than $10/hr managing a fast food joint with a GED

Well I have my EMT-B cert along with being a BLS instructor and it just doesnt pay. So I guess I will hold off on my search until I get my Iowa Paramedic then go looking for something.

You should be able to contact the HR department at either of the Hospitals as ask for the salary range for that position. St. Luke's and Mercy are close in comparison in the Wages category. They have to be when they are in the same market and region.

Im an emt-B right now and am almost done with my intermediate while im taking my Paramedic specialist. and let me tell you its not easy.

I never even applied as a B mostly because most places are looking for Paramedics. and like some people said. Bs dont make that much money. and to try to work and go to school to become a paramedic you are not going to have a life or time to study. its going to suck trust me. Just finish your paramedic, then get a job. once you have your paramedic your garanteed a job and will be alot better off getting a job on a fire dept. if you ever wanted to switch over, then you will make the bucks with alot better benifits.
