Help purchasing new computer

Looking to get a new computer, mac would be the way to go if i had 3grand layin around. so any one with computer know how i could use your help. I am a graphic designer, so its pretty similar in needs to a gaming computer. Graphics must be top of the line and speed is a must for all the programs to run smoothly. Im loking for a site to custom build one but its been so long since i did anything all i remember is tigerdirect.com.

if your basically in the market for a kick ass gaming computer, or an equivalent, I have always heard that an Alienware is a good computer. The web site is http://www.alienware.com so you can do some more looking into it.

I use newegg.com. I'm working on my 6th custom built computer so far and I've only gotten parts from newegg.

Like biohazard I get nearly all my stuff from newegg.com. custom built is the only way to go. Vendors and boutique builds are always marked up soooo much.

sweet, thanks guys. ill go to newegg, forgot about that one. Basically need some pointers on what graphics card, processor, and which windows to run. im only familiar with xp pro. I know how much ram/hd space i need, thats pretty easy to manage. the rest...well i dont have the experience or the time to learn all that stuff too!

ill assume if you dont respond i need ot email you but. i run adobe suite, quark, ^those, and a few other randoms that i can never remember the name of. If i can id like to set it up low cost, no flashy apearance, and very quite. I hope to use a minimum monitor size of 22" wide screen. If i can find the money and screen I may also get a 40" (or so) lcd tv thats 1080i. I think that should support it ok? found a panosonic with 10000:1 contrast ratio :).

what do you guys think? I dont see any video outs, and I was hoping for RCA audio outs. But everything else seems to be pretty solid. I heard the graphics for gaming were not that impressive but that is all. IDK whats what here and its like one thing and another thing have to be this so that i can get this and idk wtf any of them are...

video card: contrary to popular belief you don't need a monster videocard for graphic design, just lots of ram. If you're gonna be going windowsxp then 2gb is a good place to start, but if you're going with Vista (which you should avoid until service pack 1 comes out) then you might want around 4 gb of ram. anyhow, heres a good videocard. very future proof, or at least as future proof as possible without spends a load of cash.

Everything else is pretty straight forward. I know you want lots of Hard drive space so buy whatever works for you, just make sure you go for S-ATA. I wasn't sure why you wanted to DVD drives, but if you do then go for it. Just please don't skimp on the power supply. Stick to Fortron, Sparkle, Antec, PC Power and Cooling or OCZ. A low cost, low watt power supply is the fastest way to fry your gear. Anything at or around 450W should take care of you. You might have a hard time finding anything with RCA audio outs, but the motherboard has optical and coaxial audio out so that might work. the videocard I put up has hd and svideo out as well as dvi. ANy thing else I can help you with , please let me know.

if your going to go Asus mobo you might as well go AMD for processer. if i were to build mine again i would go with that combo cause right now im running Asus with an Intel chip.

Normally I would agree completely, since I'm an AMD guy myself, but for sheer overclockability and stock clock performance its tough to beat a core2duo right now.
