Im looking at buying this guys 96 Eclipse GS for cheap. He says it has a knock. I dont know anything about these cars really so does someone know about how much it would cost me to find a new engine to put in there? Im not looking at going to a shop or anything, just find an engine to drop in there myself with a couple buddies. Thanks

search ebay for rebuild kits and motors. really dont see it costing much as its not a performance motor with high demands (buyer wise). probably a lot in the scrap yards too.

You could find a a rebuild kit pretty easily. Just remember that its a 420a. Just search the web, or hell even call local auto parts stores, they can get reman engines and also rebuild kits.

The 420a isn't netorious for crankwalk...any car can do that thought by the way. Even your 240 :butthead:

If it has "knock" then he must mean rod knock. That probably indicates spun rod bearing(s). Could be a spun crank bearing as well. Depending on what bearing was spun, and how bad it is. It could be an easy fix...or it could be a costly fix. You can probably find rebuilt 420a motors in ebay for a decent price. Just remember it's a 420a for an ECLIPSE. The neon 420a is slightly different and won't work in the Eclipse.

I thought it was pretty much impossible to swap in a 4g63t into a eclipse that orginally had a 420a

Nothing against R v B or anything, but someone delete that post. Thats so annoying to have that come up on the page when im listening to music on the computer and its off subject anyway.

And I think this engine has a 4G63 NA in it already. Im not 100% sure though

DSM?

420a's con't get crank walk, they don't make enough power to need a clutch that could cause it
