And holy shit...I actually touched the Audi for once...I did the passenger side fender, the hood, and the motor....all I had time for...lol
Doin the whole tape thing so I don't crap up the edges (I was using a compound) this picture was taken when I was pretty much done with everything.

(Real high res)See any scratches??...I would like to add that German car finishes are hard as all hell (take a lot of time to polish because of their strength) No more swirl marks for my hood (I'll get around to the rest of the car when I have time)

I know this picture sucks but hey, it's all I've got...Defintely tell some wetness action is going on though...

why did you mask off the fender/light?

why did you mask off the fender/light?paint on sharp edges ex. edge of the hood, fender, door etc is thiner and more likely to burn threw to primer or worse bare metal. the tape just lets you polish as far as you want with out worrying about hiting that edge the tape will protect it.

this is why you stay away from edges with any type of semi harsh polish or cutting compound as well as wet sanding. unless you build up the paint when the panel is being prepped and painted.

and if you tape moldings and stuff it just helps with cleanup from my experiance

That's exactly correct. I was using a mild compound (diamond cut 2.0 to be exact). My hood had a lot of mirco-marring (I got lazy this winter and took it through a brush car wash,...bad idea). I don't tape off emblems or anything else for that matter unless I'm compounding. If I'm just polishing I will tape NOTHING off. I'm good enough with the DA that I don't get splatter (not enough to really even noitice, instant detailer cleans it right up0.
