Possibly looking at getting a newer F-body 98+, wondering what kind of MPG something is stock form will get. Need something more daily driver friendly then my truck which as trouble breaking 13 mpg.

well, when i was stock, i was averaging around 17-20 city. sometimes around 10-12 city. after i got the new exhaust on and wanted to hear it. haha. and on highway, set the cruise at 70, it averaged out to be between 28-32mpg. since then, i did the free mods to it, which consists of a "free ram air" which you cut the bottom of the airbox out for more air flow, and added a k&n filter, and the catback exhaust, and i can definatly nail the 32mpg on highway all day long. i did alot of experimenting with it though. found out the mpg goes way to hell after 80mph, but it stays the same around 60-70. so yeah. im happy with the mpg i get outta my car. was way better than the truck i had (1997 dodge ram 5.9 magnum) got around 18-20mpg on highway with it YUCK

you also have an automatic instead of the 6 speed manual, which has two overdrives. i imagine you could get a bit better mpg with the same rear gears.

on a related note, Marc who doesnt seem to frequent this board much anymore is trying to sell his black 6 speed '00 WS6 T/A i know. cant remember the milage, but i do remember it has a new lightweight clutch in it. im pretty sure it had around 60,000-70,000 miles on it, not positive though.

if youre interested, try pm'ing DeathinNovember, or shoot me a PM, and i might be able to get you in touch with him.

would love to get that from him but i need to go through a dealer so i can ditch the truck.

one i am looking at is a 98 z28 camaro with the a4.

seriously, i say hold out for a 6 speed, much better(and more fun!) choice in the end.

but, you can throw a 3000 stall convertor, and have wayyy more fun. and have a faster car tooo. stall vertor runs around 250-350. and then instal price. but its not hard to drop these trannies, if u have access to a lift

launching from 4500-5000rpm > launching from 2200rpm

When mine was stock i was getting 28 to 30 mpg on the highway. Now it gets 24 mpg. It's a six speed. Most automatics don't get as good gas mileage due to transmission ratios.

ZEE

Automatics are definately more consistant but they aren't as strong as the M6. Plus there's way more fun factor with the stick. Of couse the six speed has greater potential to annihilate the crappy 10 bolt.

im pretty much just concerned about the fun factor. my dream is having 600hp or more hooked to a 4(or maybe 5!?!?!?!) speed gearbox in my Duster....

good god i need a minute now.

When or if I blow the trans in my car, I'll be thinking very hard about going t-56.

My fun factor is a 66 satellite with a 440 4 speed.

I actually found one 6 speed in the area i am going to check out along with 2 others that are auto's. Two of them are over 100k miles tho which inlcudes the 6 speed.

Another thought when buying;
T-Tops look cool but they leak through the car wash and when it rains.
Hard top car has a stronger chassis, I just converted to a M6, launching at 3000 dumping the clutch makes me dizzy :) I'm getting 24mpg on the highway through a heavily modded Z28. LS-1's are nice because a H/C package nets you greatter HP numbers then a stroked LT-1 in most cases. :(

im with Fbody guy. Hardtops look better and are stiffer to boot. besides, why do you need to look up and see the sky anyway?

He doen't do the illegal street racing, I may have seen him testing out his manual transmission/shifter while this red car was next to him. Or was it blue, I get confused might had been none or all of the above.

We all know of a auto t top that goes 12.1 n/a and 10.9's with a lil juice. Of course that is not stock, has suspension, converter, heads, cam and so on. texas speed and speed inc. had a lot to do with it.

Keep your foot out of it they do well on the road, mileage wise.

I saw a nice looking piece at texas speed, but I'm not a ls guru by any means...
I suppose since I don't have one shouldn't say nothing, just have known guys, raced cars, if you are nice they tell you like 590 rwhp and 26+ mpg from a ls1. A top secret figure I might add... I ask nice...

warchild145

so i'm getting the general idea here is that, the engine has some power yet is reliable and should net some decent MPG.

Correct!! :bigthumb: By the way. The 2001-2003's come with the LS6 intake on them. 15 more horsies at the wheels compared to the 98-00's

I know I know I will take it easy, I've been debating changing the cam to the big brother, I'm seeing times of 11.4's with the other cam on a NA car I just don't want to shoot my gas mileage, and I think I have better reliability but that could just be a line of bs if I break the cam in right.... decisions on a road race car.... that I'm trying to make a daily driver in the snow and otherwise, I think I will live with what it's turning now I'm happy and it makes me dizzy when I launch at 3K

What kind of 1/4 mile times do Ls1's see stock?

stock 13.4's 13.6's

That's pretty good. I'm pretty impressed with the new GT500's. a guy got one to do 10.99 in the 1/4 with some drag radials

Just saw a video couple days ago of a stock C6 Z06 running a 10.80 on Drag Radials.
If the site comes back up I will provide a link to it.
