its a 2 door because they welded the back 2 doors to the body. Its a common mod, because 2 door jettas have a bitt better look i hear.

are you sure? i looked at the picture again.. and the gas tank door is *really* close to where the back door would have been.. it doesn't look like it was a 4 door..

yeah, later ones they didn't and while you can convert them to 2-doors, it's not easy or common. It involves swapping B-pillers and rear 1/4's with a golf.
