View Full Version : I'm having my rims re-powdercoated...what color?

Due to all the nasty scratches all over my rims, I'm having them re-powdercoated by a friend of mine who owns a business that powdercoats.

I'm only going to consider 3 options:

Having it done in black (gunmetal) again.

Silver

White

What do you guys think...and why?

Well Black/gunmetal wont show as many scratches and dirt compared to the others. But I don't like the looks of the Black really on any cars.

Silver I think would be nice.

White would definately stand out against your paint and look nice, but it'd show the dirt a lot more.

That's a good point Micah. Silver really seems to be the best of both worlds.

The only reason I would think of staying gunmetal is that I'm investing in a carbon fiber hood soon. But I think carbon fiber would go well with silver also.

My vote is for gun metal it really stands out on your car. I think if you got white or silver it would just look weird.

I like black because it draws less attention from the car then other colors would, and ur not featuring ur wheels, ur featuring ur entire car.

I picked some bland 18's for the galant because i didn't want my wheels to become the focus of my car.

Black looks good on ur car, but black looks great on white cars.

Silver would look good too, it's a great universal color.

White would look good too, but harder to maintain.

Do you have a choice of ANY color you choose? or are you limited to white , silver, and gunmetal?

White.... No, doesn't match your car color

Silver..... is okay but , everyone's wheels are silver, but you can't go wrong with it. It's the classic colr for any wheels.

Gunmetal.... you've already had it. After going through with new paint .. you're gonna end up with the same look you began with and might not feel satisfied after going through all that work.

Ever thought about bronze or gold or hyperblack? The JDM look currently is about colored wheels... especially bronze and gold...gunmetal used to be all the rage but the trend is shifting.

I personally think the gold color is best matched with your green car., silver looks most nuetral on it, gold stands out the most, black and gunmetal might be too subdued. yeah, get gold wheels, drop the the car a lil, get some tint and she'll look "raw" as hell :supz:

<Just my opinion so don't take it to heart>

i like the way your car looks with the gunmetal wheels. i like the lowkey look, and yours pulls it off with the dark wheels and now spoiler and all. i think with the color of your car, gold wouldnt look quite so well. just what i think.

I'd vote Gunmetal or Bronze.

ZacFields

Yeah the guy that's doing them says I can have a choice of just about any color I want. If they didn't have it on stock, they would order it for me. He said they could even match the color on my car (which would look ghey...haha)

BTW everyone....This guy says he can do this job for $200. I think he's giving me this special price, but I would say anything under 400 would be an outstanding price because this also includes the hideous task of removing the paint.

He says it costs a little more if your rims are aluminum because they have to dip it in this expensive paint thinner/remover shit. If your rims are steel, then they just sand the paint off.

As far as the Bronze goes...I would have to see what it looks like on a green car. I might do a photoshop sometime if I can find any spare time.

I'm by no means a Photoshop guru, but this took abotu 5 minutes. I cut the wheels Rysbrnr posted, then shrunk them to fit the cav. The front one looks good, but the back wheel was a tough angle and didn't turn out with a shit. :banghead:

I still like the gunmetal. But the gold doesn't look all that bad.

Fire Hawk
11-15-2004, 05:46 PM
I think the gold/bronze looks pretty slick or the silver. I think the Silver wouldn't be too bad even though it is like a stock color on most cars, it would accent the mirrored tint too.

Ashley
11-15-2004, 06:00 PM
yuck. you guys are weird. i dont like the gold at all. lol. i think it clashes with his windows. i vote silver now, i think.

rysbrnr
11-15-2004, 06:35 PM
hmmmm.. mirror tint??? any color other than silver would clash. I know he probably doesn like chrome, but a highly polished or chrome wheel would go best since windows are so large. The mirror is more than just an accent color. If it had black tint, that would allow more wheel color options.

ZacFields
11-15-2004, 06:52 PM
ah well the mirror tint will probably only last a couple more years anyways. hehe.

I can't photoshop for shit, but obviously this looks the best.

Not to hate on women, but you can't let a girls decision influence your judgement, remember, they grew up with barbi and cabagge patch kids while you were rockin TMNT's and GI-JOE

Is there anyone who thinks there will be a difference with the carbon fiber hood i'm getting in the spring?

Zac

RandomHero
11-15-2004, 10:00 PM
difference? weight wise there will be, your stock hood weights almost 3 times as much as a CF hood does.

Stealth
11-15-2004, 10:27 PM
i think he was talkin about the hood changing what people think about rim color, but i think the bronze is tight n it would look good with the cf hood

I think either bronze (not gold) or gunmetal will look good. The gunmetal might be little better once you get the CF hood, though. My $0.02
