I joined this forum owning a 97 Supra converting it to a single turbo. Unfortunatley some things came up in life and I had to sell the supra. Good news is that it is being built into a 800+rwhp monster.

Now to my new venture.... Having already owned a few stangs I decided to try my luck and build a 2v track car. I wanted to start from scratch and started looking for cheap rollers around my area. After about a month of searching I found a running 98gt 5spd a couple hours away. I went and checked it out,,, car had 145k on it. The NPI 4.6 was worn out, dirty and poorly maintained, shocks and struts were blown out, brakes were trash, interior was awfull. The good news... straight body and zero rust. Got the kid talked down on price and brought it home with me.

Photos when I bought the car (Pretty Bad, looks like the car hadnt been washed in 10+ years)

It also had a good sized dent on the passenger side rear bumper..............

First things first car got a full wash to see all the damage. Suprisingly the factory paint wasnt too bad. It will need clay bar'd buffed polished and waxed but no faded paint or too bad of scratches. The worst is the front bumper (which will need to be re-sprayed).

http://i1370.photobucket.com/albums/ag264/98snakehorse/20141011_191225_zps99937d8c.jpg

Was able to pop out the dent and somewhat warp it back to shape.... 2hrs of the heat gun and various pry bars to snake behind the bumper support.....

Looking like a good start! The nice thing about SN95's is that they hold up really well.

Great thing about those NPI 4.6 engines is they gain a nice boost in compression from the PI top end along with the better flow.

What are your overall plans?

Now comes the fun part. Finding cheap ways to make this car faster. If anyones knows about the NPI 4.6's they were the engine used in the 96-98 mustangs and only made like 225hp and 290tq. In 99 they came out with PI (performance improved) engines which up'd it to 260hp & 302tq.

Luckily ford decided to put the PI engine in vast amount of cars in the years ahead so they are easily accessible and cheap. I was fortunate to find a guy locally with an 02 Lincoln Town car with under 100k's on it so I pull the trigger!

Hello PI Engine :)

With the new engine purchased the old one needed to come out......

Thanks, its a fun car to work on which is probably why this is my fourth one lol. I decided to go with a full PI engine swap. That way I can do away with the NPI engine that was in it. It drove home just fine but I could tell from meeting the owner that it has had a rough life lol.

After removing the engine I decided to inspect the engine bay and core supports to make sure nothing was out of the ordinary, unfortunately I found this.......
http://i1370.photobucket.com/albums/ag264/98snakehorse/20141209_201922_zps2009ff8c.jpg

Looked like the previous owner had been head first in the ditch at one point which would explain why the front bumper was in such rough shape. Luckily it didnt do anymore damage besides what you see as the fenders/hood lined up just fine and front bumper support seemed untouched.

I was able to bend both sides back by using my imagination with a scissor jack and a couple of 2x4.

After I got that figured out It was time to do some cleaning on the engine bay and new engine.

Thats basically where I'm at right now with the car. I have quite a few boxes in my house of parts that will be going on this thing and just got done ordering tons of suspension stuf so there will be more updates to come.

I posted a little too soon!

Looks like great progress, you will certainly not regret going with a full PI pullout.

I think it should be a fun car. I will have alot more money invested in the chasis and suspension than the engine this year so we sha'll see what the near stock PI can pull for times slips. Plan on running either a 3.73 or 3.55 gear.

Ah, I remember those days. Now I'm just excited to put gas in it and drive now and again. I'm assuming you're doing more to the rear end then just gears? I only ask because you pulled the whole rear end and you don't need to do that for a gear swap. :)

I am going to be cleaning and painting it black aswell / I also have aftermarket upper and lower control arms going back in so it was coming apart anyways.

As you can see in the pics we were doing some work on my budies 94 teal 5.0. Full bolton / TF head and cam kit.

Made some more progress on the mustang this week. Finally finished off the rear of the car, got the breaks hooked back up with freshley turned rotors. Was able to tear down the front suspension and get my K-member installed along with the steering rack. I was very pleased with the fitment of this k-member... went on very easily. After romoving the stock A-arms it was evident that the ball joints needed replaced so they are off getting swapped out. Also finally finished up the interior. I so wish I had a before and after of this because it is a complete transformation lol.

Got a bunch done this weekend. My COP conversion kit came in the mail so I went ahead and installed some new plugs and put the coil packs on. Finally got the engine up and off the stand and replaced the rear main seal and began assembling the clutch components.

Bolted up the transmission and then got the starter on. I actually did this with the headers installed to Im pretty confident I can get clutch swaps done when the motor is in the car with these longtubes.
http://i1370.photobucket.com/albums/ag264/98snakehorse/20150315_135205_zpsd663e9a4.jpg (http://s1370.photobucket.com/user/98snakehorse/media/20150315_135205_zpsd663e9a4.jpg.html)

Up the engine went. As you can see this is the motor + Tranny + longutbes + starter, all going in at once with the k-member bolted on the car. The process I used was a load leveler for my hoist, I lowered the nose of the car down just a bit and I had a jack underneith the car to assit the transmission if needed.

All I gotta say is that I am very pleased so far with how well everything fits. I'm using a UPR K-member with Blue Oval Industries solid motor mounts and MAC longtube headers. If I had to complain about anything it took us awhile to figure out how the steering shaft was supposed to go but we figured it out and got it all bolted in.

Very nice!

I will agree it is a bit of a pain the way the steering shaft slides over like it does. I remember when I helped a friend do long tubes on a 98 we had hell getting that thing back on. But we were already pretty damned frustrated, worst car I have ever done long tubes on. Be glad you were able to do them while the drivetrain was out!

Yes, thats why I figured I might aswell install longtubes now that the engine is out or I prob would take the easy route and get shorties lol.

More progress, engine bay is starting to come together. Worked on getting the rest of the wiring harness and vac lines hooked up. Also got my radiator installed. The Airade intake looks great had to tweak it a little bit to work on the the 96/98 wiring harness. Tonight I plan on buttoning everything up. Get some oil in the engine and top off the antifreeze and maybe I can get it to fire tonight :) After I'm assured the engine is running smoothley I plan on doing somthing with the wiring mess under the hood, Wire tuck and battery relocation. Stuff alway takes longer than expected but I would also like to be able to finish my front suspension tonight aswell.

Heres the final shot of the interior with my B&M ripper STS installed and steeda knob....

Finally the final large expense showed up for the blue beast and after 5 long months this car has touched the ground :). Took the car for a short test drive around my neighborhood.... I dont have an exhaust yet so its just straight piped, also dont have registration and insurance yet so I didnt go far lol. Car ran very well, I still need to bleed the brakes just a bit. Today I'm going to the courthouse to get it registered and then insured. Hopefully next week I will be able to get it into to the exhaust shop to fab up my x-pipe and catback....... And dont worry headlights are on the way hopefully will show up today or tomorrow lol

Car still has 5 months worth of dust buildup

What headlights are you going with?

I always liked the looks of the smoked Cobra headlights, but really did not like the light output while driving at night.

I actually had smoked cobra headlights for it but did not like them as much as I thought I would. Ended up trading them to a buddy of mine and he bought me a set just like I had on my 95gt pictured below....

I will know here in the next couple of weeks. Waiting now to get the car tuned. Just finished getting the rest of my fuel delivery needs this week. Just got the blower on last week so I'm trying to throw it together as fast as I can for the beginning of the race season.
