New for this year, I will be using the 1/8th * 1.57 formula to place 1/8th mile times into spots mixed with 1/4 mile times.

brent is the first one this year to submit an update. big congrats to brent for a new personal best and record time for iowa dsm's. also in the top 10 best manual tranny passes. hopefully he will tweak some more out of it with some more passes.

Hopefully I'll have a much better time in a few weeks after a headgasket and more boost and timing.. + I'll have a daily driver by then so I won't be as scared to break shit!

To the turbo guys with manual transmissions: Are you able to spool up while staging? If so, how?

Might as well let the cat outta the bag on my big grudge car...being nobody grudge races on here and the motor is on a stand and trans is gone lol...last year it went 10.41 @131 with a 1.38 60ft...bone stock shortblock and completely untouched 799 heads and intake, and a 4l60e...going to see how far I can push a stock cubic inch ls1 this year..

To the turbo guys with manual transmissions: Are you able to spool up while staging? If so, how?
Best bet is to have a launch control setup to help hold RPM up and as soon as you start dropping the clutch you'll build boost. Helps to slip the clutch a bit, might not work 100% the same with every car but with a DSM at least it's best to slip the clutch off the launch so it'll make full boost as you leave yet still be smooth enough to not jerk it around and cause a bog.

[slow ride]

RWD with a large turbo setup and manual transmission is going to be hard to get right. The smaller the turbos the better it will et for the given power. Shift lag and getting the launch down is not easy. What turbos do you have the mustang? 6266? What size exhaust housings? I'd take less power and more response any day for a street car.


Power comes in so sharp with the larger turbos that it will want to spin every gear change and upset the car. Vette guys with turbos really look bad most of the time :)

I have twin 62s...not really that large for a V8. I have an MSD two-step and I've tried it on several different RPM settings, but no dice. She just won't build boost while staging.

I guess I should tell ya my best 1/8 mile was 5.20 at 135.xx that at least puts the little sbf tied for 3rd I guess. And Eric Torrey has been in the 4 second range with his sbf a few times he is on the website too.

I was not witness to it but was told it has run multiple 4 second passes accompanied by 7 second 1/4 mile passes, obviously way back in the day, over 2 years so its not valid on this list anyway.

Got her into the 11's tonight at the Cordova Midnight mayhem despite a shit track that I couldn't cut better than a 1.8 60ft spinning through 1st.. also doesn't help i'm on junk $40 wal-mart street tires - tiny 205s.
Same setup. Boost set at 20psi but fluctuates up to 22psi. Still stock block, plain 16g, e85, stock trans, etc etc.
all in all besides the new headgasket and a couple things that don't really affect my power such as my new radiator and such - same setup as last time I went to the track, just this time it's not my DD anymore so I felt like actually launching and shifting it.

Good job. Do a small awd dry burnout once you feel you have the shifting down. I went 1.59 and lots of low 1.6 times out of tires much like you have. I'd say the quick burnout was good for .1-.2 reduction in 60ft. It will still spin but less and spinning spools the turbo while not breaking things. You probably have a 11.60 or so left in the car.

Yea I did a decent burnout all times, I think it was mostly just the track and my crappy 205 street tires. The midnight mayhems always have some of the worst track conditions I've seen. I cut a 1.6 once in the silver talon at much less power though my tires were 215 or 225s.

we'll see, I don't plan to change the setup now performance wise for awhile.
I will probably go back again in July then again for the iaf shootout yet this year with it.
If I still have it that is, since I am still not able to find a summer job and I'm totally broke I'm listing the car WAY overpriced (7k).. and if someone comes and gives me that for it, I'll buy a clean shell and sit on it for awhile. That's unlikely though since I doubt anyone is stupid enough to pay that much for a 1g that is basically a stock motor with bolts ons and cams. So I just plan to leave the car as it is now until I finish college.

However with a better run and all I'm sure an 11.8 is possible on the current tune/boost, we'll see. Either way I'm plenty happy with it!

Went back up and ran 11.7@117mph but they claimed their timers were off, so who knows.. Would think it'd be quicker then that with the drag radials and since the car is making probably around 50hp more (DSMLink Claims 72 more at peak) than it did when it ran 11.9@116mph.
Still the 16g. 25psi this time around.

Finally hit the track yesterday. Had a few shift cable issues and almost gave up. The car needs some suspension work for sure. 60s aren't the best but I don't have an anti roll bar yet.
It actually picked up 4 mph in the 1/8 and 2 mph in the 1/4 going from manual to auto... which makes no sense.

I was using your 1/8 mile mph to your 1/4 mile mph you posted. Picked up 25mph on that pass. Were all the passes about 25mph on the back half? I would say you could definitely go 140 trap speeds with the 2.3, not 145...

casey martin worked his over pretty good and only got 133mph or so out of it

140 is a good number for that size blower spun hard. Joe had a 2300 maggie in his old Z and was in the low 140's (probably at lower boost due to the bigger higher flowing engine). Now he didn't run e85 and a whipple is a little newer so it would probably make a few more that way, but a Z06 is a decent amount lighter than a Cobra also.

I had some shift cable issues and couldn't take it to 6500 even. The one pass it wasn't hot, I hit Rev limiter in 3rd. It had to be 140 mph but they only gave me a slip for the 1/8th.
Its got 9s in it this year I think. ..

What clutch is it? Don't put some crazy puck deal in it or you will not find the end of the parts trail. If it's a 2600 just stick a fresh disk in it and scuff up the pressure plate/flywheel.

Yeah it's an act 2600. If I get a whole new clutch set it'll be the Southbend HD TZ Stage 3. It'll just be getting another disc if I can when I do pull the trans to look at it.

With this MPH I should be able to dip in lower 11s if not a high 10 if I had more setup for drag.

I am on the evo 8 turbo with 10.5 hotside correct. I am running a Comp single 6 puck clutch. It is a nice all around car, does a few things well but nothing great.

Drag bag, re-aligned the car.... and lots and lots of ICE!
I had some launch control issues that made me look like an idiot. It hesitated pretty good on the launch until I throttled it up at the end of the day. I'd like to try one more track day this year and see some 9.80s, but we'll see. I can't believe it ran what it ran so far....

Notice the 12mph on the big end. I originally thought it lifted a head around the 1000ft mark. After a little investigation, i believe it ate another piston.... will get it all figured out for next year.
