Hey guys, not sure if this is allowed or not (Just let me know and I'll remove it or something) but I figured I would reintroduce myself because I haven't used this forum for a while, but would like to start using it again. I'm a student at Iowa State University in Ames in Mechanical Engineering, and I'm from Cedar Rapids so I end up going back and forth pretty often. I'm always happy to meet new people, or lend a hand. I'm looking to get more involved with the car scene in Iowa as cars have always been my passion. Here is a link to my original introduction thread http://iowaautoforums.com/showthread.php?14098-Me-and-My-86-GT&p=177696#post177696 I tend to do almost all of my own car maintenance/modifications, but when I made that post I was recovering from Knee surgery so I had someone else doing it. Also, my car has been living outside the past few years so it isn't as Shiny :(

My Vehicles are:
1986 Fiero GT which is my daily driver
-5 Speed
-Stock 2.8
-KYB Shocks/Struts
-Front Poly Bushings
-ADCCO 7/8" rear sway bar
-Spec Stage 2 Clutch
-Vented Rotors
-Replaced all the old parts that are worn/broke: Radiator, Suspension, Brakes, Steering column (And pretty soon Steering rack!), Alternator, etc..

1995 Ex 250
All stock. Picked it up this fall as a starter bike, and because I think my brother was tired of me steeling is Yamaha 750! I can't wait until summer because I've only had about a month and a half to ride it before it got bad out!

I'm currently collecting parts for an L36 Series 2 3800 N/A swap into my Fiero from a Buick Regal. (I have the whole car if anyone needs any parts for one). Thinking about doing a few mods to this engine, but trying to keep it in a college student budget.

This was my license plate mounting before, but I changed it to help facilitate air flow.

These two pictures show my hood vent to keep air from getting trapped in that area which could cause instability at higher speeds (Common problem for Fieros). I put my stock hood back on for winter so that I can rework it and smooth it out more. I had to rush it so it didn't turn out how I had wanted it.

And of course my little brother got the EXACT same car as me. Except his is a 4 speed.

The engine that I will be swapping into my car this summer.

Looking forward to getting to know you guys.

Looks like a nice project. Always had a secret liking of the Fiero's.

Good luck with the build. Make sure to keep us all up to date!

You planning on doing any AutoX this year?

Thank you 86svo9L! I've always been a big fan of Fieros. They are very easy and cheap to maintain, and on top of that they are also very unique! I love watching how people react when the see that the engine is in the back of the car. Even the hood opens differently compared to most cars when they then ask to see what is up front! Once I get to the point where I am starting my actual swap, I'll start a thread on here to keep you guys updated. It's way to early for that right now though!

Sparkles, yes I am planning on attending a lot of AutoX this upcoming season. I attended one meet in Marshalltown put on by NQS performance at the start of spring this year which was the first one that I've ever been to and I had a blast! I was doing it for fun, but it was nice to see that I didn't get the slowest time there haha! The track was cold and wet which made it tougher because the front end of my car loves to slide under hard cornering on anything but dry pavement (Probably has a lot to do with going into the corners too fast). I just barely made it through tech because I had bad inner tie rods and was told to get them fixed before the next meet or I wouldn't be able to run. I immediately got some new tie rods but with my car being my daily driver, and with most of my tools being 2 hours away in Cedar Rapids I didn't get a chance to replace them until this fall. Now that I have my tools in Ames and my motorcycle that I can ride while I work on my car that won't be a problem again! I will have to see if I still have the in car videos that I took of a few of my runs...

What kinda times did you get there? I literally dropped 5 seconds just by switching tires. Still a slow 1.25

I ran a 1:35 as my best time, but it was my first time Autocrossing and the track was wet. And I didn't have the best tires either. Plus I'm still running the stock 15" rims. I was told that if I got a cheap pair of 17" rims even with worn tires it would make a noticeable difference.

Here's the results of that meet to give you an idea of what people were running:

And I'm not sure if it will work, but here are the videos I took. If it doesn't work, I'll upload them to YouTube so that you guys can see them.

I could sell you a L67 top swap for that L36 for cheap.

I've been thinking about top swapping. I wanted an L67 originally, but a friend sold me his Regal with an L36 for dirt cheap so I couldn't pass it up. What are you wanting for the top swap? I might be interested if its in my budget.

I remember a guy buying my two 8" Kicker CVR's driving a Fiero just like those, dont suppose that was you?

3800 should be fun in that, but if it was me i would just make it handle good and lighten it up.

No that wasn't me. I'll ask my brother, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't him either. I have a 10" Pioneer Premium in my car which is plenty for a car this size. I'm debating on selling it though and putting the money in something else for my car. I plan to do more suspension and brake mods in the distant future. I probably would be doing them sooner if this engine had not fallen into my hands. But either way it is great project!
