i'm shooting for 9's but ya never know. thought i had a chance last year but was far from it, things weren't going well with the new rear end and clutch last year. i planned to test this last weekend but the day before i actually did some tests with the slicks and found out my slicks were rubbing my inner fender. that's fixed now but the shootout will again be the first test of the year with softer suspension and iron motor with more weight over the front end. so you never know whats going to happen. i was hoping to get a line lock and 2 step for this year but ran outta time.

i was hoping you could do the all the talking this year, rules, trophies etc :) ohhh well. thats too bad you can't make it. maybe next year

I will consider it a successful day if I can drive the car back on the trailer at the end of the day. hahahahaha

I don't honestly plan on running the 7.3.... unless there is some strange need for a really slow truck. I honestly thing its got a weak HPOP. Probably still keep up with that 6.66 Dirtymax though.
I'll have a two place trailer, so if James' car doesn't break and somebody really needs it, I can bring a car home.

Question on the rules for the auto class and track rules. See notes below and red highlighted

All below items are required for autos (waivers can be granted on a case by case basis)
-------------------------------
YES-Functional windows, doors, hatch (must all roll down or open)
YES-Plates and registration and insurance, no dealer plates, vin must match
NONE-No lexan
YES-All working lights, turn signals, brake, both head and tail lights (none removed)
NONE-No one piece/lift off front ends
YES-Passenger seat
YES -Full exhaust (must exit behind fronts seats or farther to the rear, no open headers or open downpipes)
NONE-Cockpit operated exhaust cutouts can be used, must be able to fully close and open exhaust from cockpit during inspection
YES-Muffler or resonator (except on turbo cars)
YES-Door panels
YES-Factory Dash
YES-Horn
YES-Speedometer
YES-Interior: Must have all factory-type interior (headliner, carpet, door panels, dash) Rear Seat Delete OK w/carpet (must have rear bulkhead). NO exposed sheet metal

-Cage/chassis: Max 8.50 legal (10/12 point); No 25.x; No Funny Car Hoops; No back half/tubular frame rails; No wheelie bars or 'chutes

Not required but you must meet 5 from the list below (for Auto class only)
---------------------------------
YES-Differential on drive wheels (open, limited slip or locker)
YES-Functional wipers
YES-HVAC fan and vents (we will flip on your fan during inspection)
YES-Brake booster
YES-Side mirrors (if car came equipped with them from the factory)
REMOVED-Back seats (if car came equipped with them from the factory)
NO-DOT approved/manufacturer approved for highway use (ET Street Radials ok, ET Street Bias ok, Hoosier Quick Times ok, not ET Street Radial Pro, not Hoosier DOT Drag Radial )

NOTES: My car currently has ET Street Pro's on it which says are not allowed, but if everything else on the list my car has am i good? Also my car has no cage, I dont know how fast it goes as i have never been to a 1/4 mile track. Did a couple runs in the 1/8th awhile back but i am sure it is faster than the 8.3 @ 86 (8.3@86) i ran before. What safety equipmetn is required to race at this event? Helmets, Fire Jacket? I have stock seatbelts as my car is a true street car and doesn't see the track much.

I don't want to haul 4 hours one way to not race due to not having something.

Sunny Z
10-03-2013, 10:29 AM
The way I read it, you just have to meet 5 of the criteria, which it looks like you do.

For safety, probably just a helmet for your times. If you have a power added (non-factory) than they might bitch about a jacket..... but i HIGHLY doubt it.

TSmiley98
10-03-2013, 10:36 AM
So no need for a cage no matter how fast I may go? I would venture to say my car is a mid 7 sec car in the 1/8th now.. Also what is required as for nitrous stuff? Do I need a blow down tube or anything?

RedRocketZ28
10-03-2013, 10:39 AM
I went 6.50 @ 112 and don't have a cage...

Sunny doesn't have a cage either and his car is quicker than mine. Bring your car man.

JustaGT
10-03-2013, 10:59 AM
If you are running nitrous you will have to have a blow down tube, that is one thing I think they are pretty strict on.

As for the jacket situation, I will be bringing up my 5 layer jacket that I wore for Super Comp racing so it should pass for this event haha. If they whine about it and anyone needs to use it you are more than welcome to as long as I'm not next in line to run. lol

AutoMods

11.5 et 1/4 mile, about 7.3 1/8th mile times would require a cage and jacket. but some tracks might not get picky until your into the 10's. bring a helmet and wear pants and you should be fine, no shorts.

i think they are less picky with newer fast cars that are stockish. read this need rule that lets 08 and newer cars run with no cage as quick as 9.99@135 http://www.dragzine.com/news/nhra-amends-roll-barcage-rules-for-08-later-street-vehicles/

Go threw tech without the bottle and tell them your not spraying if they ask. Then bolt that bitch up and hose her down! I don't know what kind of car you have but you do no need a blow down if the nitrous compartment is separate from the driver. But like I said don't have a bottle mounted when you go threw tech and your good to go!

My car went 11.4 on motor in wichita a few months ago, but I lost .2 in teh 1/8th going back to a stock convertor N/A, have yet to run with nitrous, but the 75 shot should put is back in the mid/low 11's in the 1/4.

They weren't very nice about my wheelhop in the GTO pulling off my radiator hose either in 2009. I put it back together and filled it with water, then they promptly kicked me out for "ruining the track surface for an hour". Like I was trying to dump all my coolant on the track. Haven't been back since.

The issue might not have been the fact you caused a delay, but the fact you had antifreeze in there instead of water like you are technically supposed to be running. Which in turn takes 10x as long to clean up... just sayin

Thats why I said technically, I know 95% of the street cars still have anti-freeze in them.. but from the track workers point of view its a major pain in the ass to clean when it could be quick and simple if it was just water

I hope the weather holds out. It will be fun watching you guys. I’ll be racing later at the midnight mania, I don’t think I would be much competition for you guys. One of my friends told me to look into this Iowa street car shootout on facebook but I don’t have that so what do you know an Iowa auto forum exists, haha. Well anyways good luck. As for tech I was there last weekend and as long as you say you don’t know what it runs they assume it’s not superfast and/or you’re not a good driver.so they will only require a helmet that is not expired. They closed it to 1/8th mile out of the blue last weekend so I loaded the car up and went home. The CFR owners can be worthless at times.

I've only been a part of building 1 cage, and that was more than enough for me, haha.

Drifte, is the tach a different color or is it just the photo? I have never thought to look in Rmcabe's.

Tach is white face. I just was implying the 666 on my mileage after I just put it back together. So far so good though.

The weather up in Cedar Falls is showing only 20% chance of rain after 2:00pm Saturday. I will keep you updated but as of now, the event is definitely on.

2:00 Gates open. Get your car teched asap and buy race fuel if needed. Mark IAF-Auto or IAF-Manual on your drivers side and front window.

2:15-2:45 Final registrations, auto class rules inspection. Derek will be handling late registrations and inspections.

2:45 Quick IAF Drivers meeting

3:00 Make sure you’re ready to race. You will have time to make one test pass, possibly two test passes if you are quick about it.

4:00 Auto and Manual classes line up in the proper lanes for your Qualifying pass to get you seated in the elimination bracket. The CFR computer will record the time and seat you automatically.

4:30-7:30pm There will probably be 4 rounds of elimination. Last year CFR wanted both auto and manuals to come to the staging lanes at the same time. If you get a bye run, you still have to show up and run down the track. Please get to the lanes promptly when called.

7:30 Award Ceremony in the pits!

If you see an error in the qualifying or round printouts, let me know and we can correct it. We can also help out if for example you’re fixing your car and can’t qualify, we can manually insert you into the race but you’ll be seated last.

Keep racing test and tune if you’re eliminated from the bracket. However do not use the special bracket lanes. Any timeslip can qualify to win the awards, keep your timeslips.

You cannot wear shorts if you’re racing. Bring warm clothes if you plan to watch midnight mania.

I have quite a bit of testing to do with my own car and I’ll be up at the tower at times. Derek is well aware of all the rules, registration and schedule if you have questions.

Thanks,
Ryan

you'd put auto. your running with the all the autos but there is a quickest truck award. it would be cool to have a truck/suv bracket all by itself but there isn't enough of you guys. maybe we can line you guys up together for the first round

Id really like to not line up to something running 4 seconds faster than me. If at all possible!

If I can I'd like to line up with other trucks, they should at least be close to what I expect to run. The guesses are mid to high 14's for me.

Last time I checked I had a 6pt. cage with swingouts. All color matched to the car :burnout:

Figures a show car would color match the cage.

I'm only about 10 minutes from the track out in the sticks also and it's looking decent out. Should be a good day for power also. Cool southwest wind, but the DA isn't really low, but still around 1300 right now.

everything is a go. weather.com is saying 0% chance of rain from 1pm until 6pm. then only 10% .
