ls1 / T56 Internals

Hey guys looking to be pointed in the right direction here. As some of you know I am swapping a LS1 into my S14. I recently purchased a T56 from a 2001 c5 Z06. Any of you familiar with t56’s know that the c5 transmission is directly engage with rear axel. So to get this to work for my car I need to replace the mainshaft, Bellshousing, tailhousing, adapter plate and shift selector with GTO t56 parts.

I have already purchased the Parts to make the conversion. I just need some advice as to what shop to take it to… Are there any locals experienced with t56’s or any trusted shops that will touch this? Let me know. I need this done in the next 30 days. Thanks.

slowride unwilling? that's odd. Fountain's transmission in IC was a pretty trusted name a while back; Mysak's in Marion took the front cover off my T56 and pressed in a new sleeve for the throwout bearing to ride on for a reasonable price. you could check either of them.

slowride unwilling? that's odd. Fountain's transmission in IC was a pretty trusted name a while back; Mysak's in Marion took the front cover off my T56 and pressed in a new sleeve for the throwout bearing to ride on for a reasonable price. you could check either of them.

Said he's got a lot on his plate already, And thank you I will check into them.

I was having troubles finding a f-body T56. At least one that wasn't going to need to be rebuilt anyways. I got a somewhat good deal on this one and it is spotless. The Z06 transmissions do have triple cone synchros & lower gear ratios than the F-body T56.

I have considered that. Was hoping to find someone local before sending it somewhere and having to pay freight and what not. Thats saying they would do this for me.

ron peterson on facebook just posted a t56 for sale in sioux city for $1500 obo. i think he has an fbody one

I did call The shop in Marion mentioned earlier (Mysak's). Said they have "some" t-56 experience and would be able to handle it if I supply them with necessary parts. Which I have. I asked cost... He said all he could tell me is he charges 86.xx/hr being that he is not familiar with the conversion I am doing.

sounds iffy. I just talked to Terry from North liberty Auto who does a lot of drag racing, he said that Fountain Transmission in Iowa city has done a lot of drag racing transmission and rear end stuff. Jerry from Fountain is the manual transmission guy.

Contacted Jerry at Fountain Transmission. He was more than confident about t56's and doing this conversion for me, seeing that I am providing all the parts for it. Thank you for finding this information. Looks like ill be heading this route with it. Ill Keep you updated with finished product in a couple weeks.
