True E85??

Does anyone have or know where to purchase true E85 as we are still on E70 winter blend? I see VP has it but at roughly $10/gal thats a little out of my price range. I'm looking to pick up around 10-15 gallons to run when a few of us go to the track on June 15th so I dont have to run the current super rich AFR's on E70. Any help is appreciated!

I ended up buying a barrel of straight ethanol from Demmer Oil Co. 563-855-2515 mix your own so you don't have to worry about it not being what you want

Yeah its adjustable. I'm sure I could get a new tune made with no issues from the previous owners tuner in TX but would rather not mess with it as the current tune is pretty damn solid. I've heard rumors though that we are going to be E70 year round and if thats the case then I would look into re-tuning it, but I dont really want to mess with it too much if E85 will be coming around soon. The AFR's aren't bad at 11.5-11.7 when I had true E85 from the previous owner but with filling up here in Iowa it is overly conservative at 10.3-10.6 at WOT...

lancealot e85 is not coming back. You can get a drum of e98 for pretty cheap but would need two maps.

We just had this discussion a couple weeks ago. Neither me nor Casey have seen any E85 out of the pumps around here for over a year. It's all been E70 for me since the end of 2011.

I originally wanted to purchase a low milage stockish cobra and do everything myself, but I came across this and got a steal on it considering the stuff that is done.
The only bad part is I am running 18x9,10 bullitt wheels on it currently as he sold the TF wheels separate.

The old 2.3 whipple setup was just under 700rwhp, but never got a good dyno pull with the current 2.9 setup. The previous owner along with a few others from TX that are pretty good with E85 had street tuned it with the 2.9 but had issues on the dyno; The old gatorback belt slipped like mad and RR pulley took a crap. The only time it has been on with the current setup it was suppose to be at 23-25psi but only held 10psi up top resulting in 540hp/620tq hahaha. It hasnt been on the rollers since then. I'd like to see 725+ with true E85 and aim for 780 or so if I pick up a crusher inlet and some cams. Hopefully I'll be able to strap it down sometime soon and see what it does.

I assume that is for E98? I know of a few places in Minnesota that sell it for around $5-6/gallon, just fill up however much you need. Wish we had places like that here.

That is for renegade e85. I priced out vp c85 too that stuffs 10 a gallon. Iirc the e98 was very similar to the e85 but heck if there was a renegade vendor close it wouldnt be too bad. Or do it like andy and enrigh e70. Hell for 2.77 a gallon its a lot cheaper.

I will more than likely just get an e70 tune and run that so I dont have to worry about buying it by the barrell, but I would like to have about 20 gallons of e85 for the track and dyno coming up since the tune is already there for it. Gotta try to get some halfway decent numbers before it gets switched over :biggrin:

When I did it it was easiest to mix it with the existing lower concentrated fuel (E-70) to bring it up to E-85 or higher.

I think he means just Iowa, I have heard the same thing (that Iowa is running winter blend year around) versus southern states which switch over as Iowa used to.... I'm not 100% sure but I have heard that also from multiple people.

According to my recent logs my AFR was quite a bit more lean without any changes being made. Granted, I had gotten fuel at a different Kum and Go but it obviously had more ethanol in it. So, whatever that is worth. I need a tester.

This just came up on srtforums. A lot of the southern guys are getting true e85 at the pump while most of the blend up North is staying at e70.
This is nothing official, just what people are getting from testing it.

Just talked with Vito and Bob Kurgan, working on a date to get down to Karl's performance and do a remote session to have a good tune on the current e70. I figure this would be the best route as I would rather not go through hassell in the long run of mixing and buying barrels every time I wanted to drive the car. I will keep the current e85 tune on the handheld in case things do change back to e85 though. I wish I picked the car up a few weeks sooner so I could have just gone down when he was in DSM doing the tuning sessions:disappointed:

Regarding staying on the winter blend, it seems like the same thing is happening in MN, it stays E70 until June then goes to around E78 for a couple months in summer, then back down. Pretty hard to find the good stuff.

I don't know why they keep the blend so low. Since ethanol is cheaper than gas, they could increase the ethanol percentage, sell at the same price, and increase their profits. Doesn't make sense.

that's what i was thinking. does anyone know how long the gas stations go before they need to refill their underground tanks? i was wondering if they don't sell as much e85, maybe its hard to cycle through different blends

Ryan I was told that by someone that works for the president of the iowa bio fuels. I tested every tank last year and they were all e70. I was just talking about Iowa also.

leaning out would indicate more ethanol. you should test that pump.

I actually think I found 1 in Story City, Ia. It was a Cenex / Heartland Iowa Co-op pump, was on E70 went to CFR raced and stopped on the way back when I was close to running out. Rating jumped to E78 after the fillup. I was almost empty so it was almost a complete fill up. I haven't had a chance to test any of their other locations.

Who's driving to Story city to get fuel though. The freakin problem is that if they are going to switch to E70 year round, they need to advertise it as such. It's BS. Makes no sense. I'm going to go to the Kum & Go on the SS by Menards with that fancy pump and test that next week.
