"It finally becomes reality Summer 2013. That’s when the Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel hits the road running as the first clean diesel car ever produced by a U.S. automaker and will offer an EPA-estimated 46 MPG highway. It will have a starting MSRP of $24,885*.Clean diesels generate at least 90% less Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) and particulate emissions when compared to previous-generation diesels.
It all starts with a 2.0L turbocharged clean diesel engine designed in Italy, built in Germany and installed in the Cruze at our factory in Lordstown, Ohio. The 2014 Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel comes equipped with the very latest clean diesel technology which helps reduce emissions while also boasting 148 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of “low-end” torque* (http://www.chevrolet.com/cruze-diesel-reveal.html#content_chevrolet_northamerica_usa_nsc website_en_index_tools_cruze-diesel_jcr-content_cnt_legalpage_c1_disclaimers_disclaimer_c1 _0) that you’ll have to experience to believe."

Fun to read about, but not really impressed with the EPA estimated MPG. Will be interesting to see what the hyper-milers can do with it, I'd guess 60+mpg.

I'm being told you won't need to be a hyper-miler to get 60 mpg.

I think the Jetta will still have this beat for a while.

Once a few pass 300k miles without issue I would say its in the TDI land. As few miles as I drive a year, it matters very little what kind of MPG I get. I just find it all interesting.

Its a person who goes to great lengths to get higher MPG.

I do like that diesels in cars are starting to become more of a thing here in the US. I'd love to have one of the coming mazda 6 diesels.

I've hyper miled before just with driving habits a few times to see what I could get. My 95 civic hatch 1.5l 5spd managed 57mpg in town using hyper mile methods and my 93 eclipse 1.8l did 47mpg. Not too bad, but it's damn annoying driving that way I'd rather just spend the extra gas.

On an interstate drive I managed 46mpg in a v6 hybrid accord with eco mode that runs it on 3 cyl. The hybrid part only affects it with in town driving.

i drive 100+ miles per day it gets expensive! I need to figure out how the hell those numbers are possible. 57mpg in town?! best ive got from my gtp was tailgaiting a semi as much as possible and got 30. beside that it gets 27 at 68-70mph

A lot to it. Step one would be driving not much faster than 55mph. Add some aerodynamic mods, tire pressure. gtp can only get so good, those cars are pretty heavy (but so comfortable).

Shit, the new old Regal I got gets 34mpg doing 75mph on the highway. Not bad for a boat.

All that torque in a little Cruze would be fun. Rollin coal?!

With all the new restrictions, soot filters, etc... Its going to be hard mod. But if like Bully Dog comes out with a programmer, it could be fun!
