figure i'd give an update... I got the car back together for the 2nd time this year. 1st time car started mixing oil and coolant almost immediately in both the coolant system and oiling system. Being from the 7mgte background I immediately thought it was a head gasket... Being ignorant I immediately sourced a head gasket and had the head checked over. Pressure tested, hot tanked and milled. Cleaned the shit out of the block and resealed everything.

After start up the car did the exact same thing not even 60 seconds in! Not even a minute into starting my dip stick was up another 1/3 of an inch and white. The coolant turned chunky and white. Extremely aggravating I went to a several of my sources explaining my issue.

Theories we've come up with.
Head gasket didn't seal
Water cooled oil cooler went bad
Cracked block
Cracked head

Things i've tested
Compression test (Perfect 135 acrossed the board)
1st time coolant pressure test (would not hold any pressure at all)
Removed oil cooler jumped coolant lines over and re-pressurized coolant system.(would not build any pressure)
Filled up with water and pressurized once more i with the oil drain plug off. It was pushing water/coolant out the drain hole...
Tested the block surface with a straight edge and it was flat.
I spoke with the machine shop about how the pressure test went with the head they swore if the head was cracked it would of come up. There going to be retesting it again to verify.
I've visually inspected both the block and head for cracked and have come up with nothing.

My thoughts moving forward. At this point if the head checks out again and is fine. I'm going to be pulling the trigger on a 2jzge short block. Moving everything from my engine including head and oil pump over to that short block. A couple positives in doing so. It will bump my compression up to 9.3:1. Should help getting out of the whole on the auto. A short block is only $250.00. I'm going to end up moving the car to e85. It was only a set of injectors away from going that route anyway. If this doesn't end up fixing it and it is the head i'm not out much money.

I had giving some thought on having my block magnafluxed. To me it doesn't make very much sense. If I take it apart one of two things happens. I find out the blocks cracked and spent the money on having it magnafluxed for nothing or I find out its not cracked and I end up buy a 2jzge short block anyways. The engine will be plenty safe with the increase in compression for the goals I have.

Any thoughts or input with be appreciated. I know theres a lot of differences in opinion on the 2jzge pistons. I've been doing tons and tons of research over the past week. It's also been brought up numerous amounts of time. This car ran fine before I took it apart. It's still baffling to me how something would of cracked over the winter. The car sits inside. I tested the coolant freezing point and thought it was alright. The garage hardly gets below freezing even at its coldest.

Hey sorry about the problems your having. If you go the 2jzge the pistons and rods can hold just as much as the tt block as long as it isnt the vvti block.you will also need an oil feed line for the turbo too reach the oil filter housing since the ge dosnt have previsions for the turbos also you need the oil pump since the ge dosnt have the crank sensor on it and the gear for it as well there might be some other small things im forgetting but it should work for you with no problems.

Well I kinda had an eppiffany a couple nights ago. There had been some talk I may of had the head gasket on wrong. Its possible to put it on one other way but the coolant ports and oil galley ports are messed up. I had already pulled the head back off and of course didn't pay attention to how the head gasket came off. I did inspect the head gasket it and it looked like it hasn't set in a few areas because of the way it was put on. I ended up bolting the head back on and sealing up the coolant system. Then pressure tested it and wouldn't ya know it the thing actually pressurized! I'm waiting on a few gaskets and hoping to have the car on the road this weeken.d

Well pulled everything out of the car Thursday night. Took a shot in the dark thinking something inside the transmission was messed up. Took a th350 we had lying around (it was a unilug at that lol) had been sitting there for 10 years came out of a 68 buick skylark. I remember parting out the car when I was very young. Slapped everything back in and the car now moves. I took it out Sat night for awhile. Definitely a few things I have to work out. The car has some harmonic vibration above 50mph. The mk iv tt wheels I put on off my parts car had been sitting in the mud for several years so i'm wondering if the tires are flat spotted. Either that or the bell housing may need to do some more self clearancing. I also discovered a minor transmission leak after foot brake boosting the car. I'm glad I wasn't far from home. I should have that worked out tomorrow. After driving the car for awhile i'm realizing the tune is off so i'm going to mess with that some till I can get something scheduled with Jesse. Were closing on a house on July 15th so money is kind of tight right now. Still hoping to have her track ready soon.

So far I really like the new setup even with a 4000rpm stall the cars still fun to drive.

I tried tightening up the cooler lines today. I had some luck i'm going to try a little more tomorrow. Seems to be getting better. Sucks because theres no room for the proper line wrenches.

Well alot of transpired in the last couple weeks. Got the car moving with an extremely old transmission. Completed cooked the transmission while out tuning with BGjohnson. It was so bad it looked like barbecue sauce when I drained it and smelled horribly over cooked. I took my semi built transmission I thought I broke and fixed it put it back in the car. Car ran night and day different. I thought it ran hard before until this trans went in. She really scoots with the auto. Was fighting an oil leak and was able to get that sealed up everything was going well. Then my costly mistake of putting the head gasket on backwards finally showed up. The engine started rod knocking from antifreeze touching the bearing surfaces. I'm kinda stuck right now because were closing on our house a month from now. Being very limited on funds i've started selling items I can live without right now. I've got almost enough to purchase a 2jzge non turbo short block. I've been wanting to go this route for awhile. The 2jzge has the same rods and crank as a 2jzgte. They don't have oil squirters which isn't a big deal. They also have different pistons. 2jzge pistons are flat top pistons with valve reliefs cut into them combined with a 2jzge head they run 10.5:1 compression out of the factory. When you take a 2jzgte head and put it onto a 2jzge block it nets you 9.3:1 compression with a factory twin turbo head gaskets. Neither piston is forged so i'm not losing out here. This will in turn give me more torque and the car should move out of the hole better hopefully. I'm also planning on selling my current injectors to buy 1200cc injectors so I can move the car to e85. When its all said and done hoping the car will make around 600whp threw the auto. Hopefully I can get her back together in the new few months will have to see how cash is looking.

What did it make through the manual?

It made 516who on 18 psi 91 octane. It had to light of a waste gate spring so we couldn't make anymore boost on the dyno. On the street we were able to bump it to 22 psi on 93 octane.

Thanks guys,

I'm headed to pick up a short block this weekend from rockford, il. Ended up trading a set of adjustable cam gears I didn't really need and a little money I got from selling a few parts. Hopefully I can get a few more things sold soon and get a gasket kit purchased. Biggest hurdle now will be getting a set of injectors without breaking the bank. I may go ahead and assemble everything I can at least drive the car. Just worries me upping the compression and getting my tune readjusted in boost.

Hopefully she'll be out before the end of summer maybe the shootout still :).

Grants car is getting really close. He was having some EMS issues he's finally gotten sorted out. I think he'll be going back on the dyno with Jesse tuning it soon. The car should make some pretty good power.

Update

Took the car out for its maiden voyage last night on e85. I still have 1 transmission leak and 1 oil leak i'm having to contend with. Other then that the car drives great. I've got a decent cruise tune setup. Should be working on a wot tune Sunday if I can get everything else ironed out. I can already tell the cars more responsive due to the increase in compression. I'm excited to see what its going to do.

Sorry guys still no video yet. I attempted to get a couple with the go pro I have. I always forget to turn it in.
Here's some more updates:
I finally got the transmission dip stick leak fixed after struggling for awhile. The cars pretty close to being ready for the track.

Still currently sitting at 25 psi. My tuner and I have been entertaining the idea of turning it up to 30 psi. I'm also adding a 50 wet shot just for spool. You have to sit on the trans for along for it to make around 10 psi. I'm really afraid i'm going to over heat the trans and decided it was a better idea to help make boost another way.

Haha I shouldn't need the spray now :). I'm going to leave it on the car and may tune a 100 shot in for a just in case or for when I get a better tire. The car can always leave harder right :P. The other turbo had a 77mm turbine wheel with a 1.10 a/r housing. This ones a 73mm turbine wheel and a .91 housing. Then the wheel efficiency is going to be so much better as you probably know :).

I think the wheel developed so much shaft play. It was weird because it didn't smoke at all. I also did some research on the turbo itself. Apparently its not efficient above 20psi. We had it turned up to 30 lol. Makes sense why my intake temps were so high.

Were really excited to start throwing parts at her car. A few local mustang guys have helped us out a lot already. Chris (BGJOHNSON) and Jake (kville).

There 1zz coils. The coils I have are old cracked and i'm just barely getting away with the way they are. My brother is going to cnc a plate out to bolt the coils into then bolt them into the head.

Here's another update. I'm not extremely happy with my lower intercooler pipe is currently. Planning on reworking it this winter. All I have left is to rework my downpipe and we should be ready to rock and roll.

Alright I finally put a video together. Took the car out for awhile tonight to see what the a/r's looked like. Needless to say it needed some fuel added to the boost enrichment map. Its still not perfect. I have a date setup with my tuner next week to iron the rest of the tune out. It could still use some more timing also. Let me know what you think!.

Your first pull was pretty much in front of my house. I also enjoy tuning and making pulls where the majority of that video was shot. All of which is in mexico of course.

I like the auto, don't mind the stall, hate the fact it doesn't have an overdrive. Hoping one day I can afford a gear vendors.

Well as most of you know already. I finally made it to the track on oct5 to the IAF shootout. The car did very well and i'd say met my expectations for the year. It went 11.2 @ 120mph. 1.67 60ft. This was on 27psi and very conservative timing. We have at least 5 more degrees to go. Heres how it looked on race day.

Now onto winter projects. Not planning on doing much with the engine or transmission.
-NOS Nitrous kit 100 shot
-Will be dynoing the car for 32psi and getting the timing set right
-Upgrading to the 1zz coils
-Upgrading rear suspension
1.Beech adjustable tow in bars
2.Beech adjustable rear control arms
3.Beech adjustable traction bars
-Hooking up the launch control
-Hooking up speedometer
-Hooking up aftermarket speed single for ems
-New rear drag radials
-Drive Shaft Loop
-Possibly an 8 point roll cage

I believe that will be the majority of the work. I'm pondering switching to a 4l60e so the car will have an overdrive. Will see what happens. I will also be lending a hand with the gf on her car.

I have a friend that builds 4l60's and 80's all day long in the desmoines area. Im not sure on the weight of your car, but he tends to lean towards the 80 for serious power. He also told me to throw away my 4l70...not really but my vehicles way to fat for it and it should in his opinion also have an 80 under it. Looks like you already have a full plate for the winter anyway.

Who is this guy? I will more than likely need a good trans guy next year at some point.

It wasn't breaking up but the timing in the top end of the map was pulled way back. Probably has at least 5 degrees maybe more. It doesn't make full boost till 2nd. I kinda think the power might of been dropping off on the top end even tho the boost was going up. Between the health issues i've been having and my tuner being really busy. We haven't had any time to tweak the map since july. I messed with the a/rs a little myself to make the car safe. Planning on hitting the dyno here before the car goes away for the winter to get everything right. My guess is the car probably makes between 525-550whp. It should have another 150whp still left then the 100shot on top of that.

My car weighs roughly 3550 without me in it. I need to put it on the scale. It weighed 3440 with the 5 speed. I've changed a couple other things to lighten it since then as well. Not sure if i'll actually change or not. The th350 I have now works fine for what I do. Hate to change something that works.

I bet if you would go to the track again before the end of the year you could get it into the 10's. I know fwd and rwd are different in how they mph, but your mph seemed to be pretty low for a low 11 second car. Do you think timing played a part in it?
When you say you are 5 degrees low on timing, do you mean for e85 or for standard 91?

You have got a busy winter ahead of you, hopefully that new house came with a heater for the garage.

I did some research today and spoke with a couple sources. Were right around 5 degrees retarded. That would still put me on the conservative side for e85. My guess between that and the a/r's it could be the reason. Sounds like we may go to the dyno sometime this week and finish out the tune to 32psi. That should explain a lot. Anyone thats ridden in the car now knows theres no way the transmissions slipping. The car pulls to hard for that.

It unfortunately does not lol. Not sure what were going to do yet. My dad has a heater we can use. Might go ahead and insulate.

Well winters approaching fairly quickly. I'm still out on disability and I've been doing a ton of brainstorming on my game plan this winter. Here is a short list of everything on my car.

Mookech adjustable rear control arm- Purchased
Mookech adjustable toe in/out bar
strut spacers- Purchased
SVE Drag Pack Wheels with MT Radial Pro's
1zz ignition system upgrade- Purchased
8 point roll cage
drive shaft loop
get back on the rollers for another tune

I'm also pulling my engine harness out and rewiring the whole thing. I did the initial rewire 5 years ago. Its worked great but i'm definitely not proud of it. I'm also considering doing a simple wire tuck with it.

I've got a few other ideas floating around in my head for this winter. Just waiting to see what money looks like.
