I need two coolant passages on my lower intake manifold welded shut, they're probably the size of a nickel... Can anyone help me out?

Try ATS auto in cedar rapids, our site sponsor. I believe they have a good aluminum welder, Brad, on staff now

I was going to head to H&W but was kinda hoping I could take the cheap way out and fling a member $5-$10 instead of payimg a shop what I'm sure will end up being $40-$50...

To weld a couple beads the size of a nickel? I guess I'm just way to spoiled/cheap cuz I've never had to pay for stuff in the past. I could.always do it myself or had someone that would just do it for me. All State still lets me raid their scrap and use their welders and shit but I don't know how to use a spool gun so... I can tig aluminum as I use to build custom livewells but I no longer have a welder so...

Should have said something my uncles estate sale had a tig.

ATS doesn't have a welder that does aluminum. They just have your run of the mill mig machine.
I could probably do it for you, how clean is the aluminum? I don't want to weld it if it's dirty cuz I don't have much time anymore.

Here's what I've got... like I said, I'm just not use to paying much (if anything) so if I am being unrealistic for $10~, let me know. Either way, I'd rather pay someone on here than a shop.

your going to need a plug or aluminum plate to cover that gap before welding. I would think $20 would be a great price for you if you get the plug/plate ready beforehand. $40 would even be fair.
$10 is perhaps an insult for any skilled welder. if they want to charge you $10 as a buddy thats fine but you should initially offer more. $$ for time, equipment and liability if they crack or warp your piece.

Why in the hell would a good welder need a plug to fill a couple small holes?

1 pass instead of 4 maybe?

its kind of borderline but I would want that hole plugged personally if i welded it . less chance for blow out while welding and I would think it would be stronger than basing your plug off all filler rod. but i'd be curious as to what a professional would think about that

Tape that thing and put a pipe plug in it

LOL, it had teflon tape and plugs before. It worked but it looked ridiculous. Doing a wire tuck and cleaning up the engine bay, shit was not flattering. ;-)

Trevor/Mike... now that you've seen it, let me know if you're still up for it. I'll give you a call/text tomorrow if there's no response/pm on here. I appreciate it, either way...

You can fill that gap no problem with Filler....problem is it's cast aluminum, so the weld WILL be very porous. If I do it i'll probably be making a cap and welding it.
I can probably do it today Keith. Just txt me or something.

What he said ^ easy to fill that with weld only.. Your going to have to dress it up when done anyway. You cant even buy JB weld for 10 bucks can ya?
