Hey, just figured I'd put this out here since someone may know someone.
I just sold my bike, looking to upgrade. I've got around $4000-5000 to play with. Anything less is always better but I'm sure i won't get what I want for less.
Requirements - EFI, ~10k miles or less, or around there. No major issues either.

Ideal bikes: FZ1 / ZX6R / R6 / R1 / ZX10R / 600rr/1000rr. No gsxrs unless it's a damn good deal. It's not that I don't like them, for some reason I'm just super uncomfortable on them, and I ride my bike regularly the 3ish hours between cedar falls->burlington so I don't think I could handle being like that every weekend. Oh and probably one of my favorite bikes are ZX12r's and 954rr/929rr's but both are more rare so I don't hope to really find one that I like.

If you know of anyone trying to get rid of one let me know, post or PM is fine. Thanks

unfortunately 5k is the max unless I sold the ruckus, and that'd be a devilish act

I got a 02' Honda Superhawk I might send down the road. 2nd owner, can't remember for sure, but it's around 9-10k miles. 1000 twin, decent pilot powers, Corbin seat and stock seat. Pretty much showroom condition, red/black/grey color. Looks like

man I always swear I know of most modern bikes but theres another I've never seen and I'm really intrigued by. I really like the liter twins like sv1000s/rc51s and I've been a bit won over by the naked look too (really would like an FZ1 for the comfort factor). I might be interested in it if you end up selling it if I don't find something here shortly.
Tonight I'm looking at a 954RR up here, but it's got a few more miles on it than I want and not sure about the price - depends on if I like it and can make a deal otherwise I'll still be looking.

i have a 03 yamaha fz1. it doesnt meet your requirements of " EFI, ~10k miles or less, or around there." the 03 is still carbed. and my bikes has about 24k on it.carbs were rebuilt a few weeks ago, along with valve adjustments. bike runs and rides excellent. brand new tires last spring with approx 2k on them. has a nice micron slip on, sounds awesome to me atleast
let me know if your interested im asking 2800

That's for damn sure haha, but my main reason for getting a new bike was upgrading which I did. I had my 01 katana 750, 08 zzr 600, then another 08 zzr (zzr's are just 98-02 zx6r) and I really wanted something more modern after riding friend's bikes. Really got tired of dealing with carbs too. The 07-08 zx6r's are one of my favorite 600s too, I've never been more comfortable on any other brands. If only they were as sexy as the 06+ r6 I'd be set

But you know me, I try to only buy stuff if I can get my money back from it usually haha, so if for some reason I feel like changing again later in the year I always can.

well figured I'd post this here lol.. Already had a wreck :)

All I had to do was go mail a letter and my room mate's car was blocking mine in and I didn't want to bother moving cars around, and I rode my ZZR through snow and rain and other shit all semester so far anyway, so what's a little rain? Well mailed the letter and was going to stop by UNI to go to the library to print a few things before I went home. Guy made an illegal left turn right in front of me, I was maybe 10 feet from him doing 25mph, locked the brakes and went down. Luckily he stopped and all. He was at fault and got cited. So we'll see what insurance says, a bit unorthodox since I haven't even had it 48 hours and haven't titled it yet, still on bill of sale.

SURPRISINGLY ...easy. Sucks about the drop. Abuse that rear break, a lot less likely to wash out the front. Rockets a different riding style from an upright, my brother learned that on my r6. He couldnt understand my hard rear braking into a corner, as he would hard front brake, and trail the back in like a motard with his upright. Well, he learned quickly, its not the same.

Clinical
04-11-2013, 11:12 AM
yeah this was more of a conscious decision of "I have to lock it and drop it or I'm plowing into the side of this truck" since I was already pretty much in the intersection when he pulled out. Figured I had a better chance not getting hurt if I locked it than hitting him. The rain really didn't help either, didn't take much to lock it up.

well to update on this, estimator came and estimated $2800 in damage and said there are still a few things not being taken into account. It also has an occasional problem starting now and then. Seems like 20% of the time, I start it and it'll just spin but not crank. Honestly it's probably just something electrical come loose cause as soon as I press it again it fires right up. But I'm not going to mess with it, unless it gets totaled and I buy it back. But anyway that also couldn't really be factored into the estimate. Estimator said there's a decent chance it'll be totaled. If it does I'll probably buy it back if the buyback is reasonable, and I'll just replace all the fairings and go with white/black theme. Just need to find someone to paint my tank if I do that.

SaNdMaNsSi
04-15-2013, 09:12 AM
A lot of times when these go down and you get that "spin" it's because the starter is damaged, usually becomes misaligned. It'll still work, but I bet if you replaced it you won't have that problem again.

I gotcha, in that case definitely going to make them replace it if that's the issue if they don't total it. Felt like a bit of a prude when the estimator was over where I was even pointing out the tiny little nick in my mirror plastic, but since it was so mint before I definitely want it back that way. Though if it gets totaled and I buy it back, I'll probably ignore the scuffing on my shifter / clutch lever / bar end / mirror and just replace fairings.

I agree with this; if I ever get in an accident with any of my vehicles, so much as a rock chip that happened during an accident is going to be fixed whether the insurance adjustor likes it or not. It's their job to screw you, it's your job to get what you want.

Figure I'll give this a little update.

I dropped the bike off at the dealer for repairs last Tuesday and hadn't heard anything. So monday I called the dealer and asked if everything was going good on it.
He said they did their own estimate and came up to $4600 in damages. So State Farm sent out an appraiser to reevaluate it yesterday and agreed with the shop's estimate. They ended up totaling it and called me this morning and are cutting me a check for $7100. Not going to complain really since I'm profiting $2100. Still bummed about losing my 1k mile mint zx6r (which is the year/style of 600 i've always wanted). I'm glad I didn't have to negotiate the price at all. Their book value said $6200 but he said the looked around at market value due to its mileage via craigslist and such.

So in looking for replacements I've found a few things. Hopefully might pick something new up this weekend, been killing me not riding! Even the ruckus gets old

04-24-2013, 09:13 AM
Can you buy it back and fix it on the cheap?

Clinical
04-24-2013, 09:28 AM
That was actually the plan. To fix it enough for myself would of been around $900-1000 since I wouldn't fix the minor stuff like a scuff on my shifter, clutch lever, bar end and a scratch on the right lower fairing and scuff on tail section. Would of just replaced the left side plastics and the nose. But I was anticipating a $1000-2000 buyback, their buyback for it is $3400 which I figure I'd rather just get a new bike than have a salvage title zx6r that isn't mint anymore.

Currently I'm eyeing these:

just got back home from picking up the new toy, went with the zx10r. Basically a clone of my bike. Needs a new rear tire (i think someone did a burnout haha) and I got him down to $6000. Not bad for getting $7200 from insurance for my zx6r I payed $5000 for and still ending up with some money in my pocket. Most of it's all spoken for though, new riding pants, some riding boots, frame sliders, new tire, birthday present for my sister, and a new tinted visor means that my extra money probably is all going to disappear but at least most of it is cool stuff :)
