Negative. Coralville and CR is about it.
It does have locking front/rear diffs which I tested out. Pretty sweet. Supposedly it has a front locker because its from alaska or something like that. Even with pretty crummy tires it gets around awesome though.

Domestic Disturbance
06-06-2013, 10:54 PM
its getting some performance mods. The egr delete with a tune picks up about 50-60whp. The downpipe has some gains too obviously but not sure how much. Also delete the air box resonator (plug). The pcv will be run into a catchcan, so then nothing 'dirty' will be recirculated into the intake. The egr and pcv add up to a lot of gunk and hot air. Before it was cleaned, there was about 1/4inch of gunk built up. Also the injectors being cleaned will help some. Even the coating will help some. Hoping maybe 20mpg's without a tuner. All of that should add up to a decent power gain.

Granted his is a 1 ton and mine is just a 3/4, but that shouldn't have much to do with it.
His is an 05, so thats LLY shit still, right?
I don't haul cars anymore like I used to, so maybe its all in my head.
If they didn't have the IFS, I might be more accepting... but that just seems silly in a full size truck.

Thats how I feel. They straight axle isn't bad, but for a 3/4 ton to ride as nice as this does makes it a lot more practical. Its something I'll haul rarely with for a while I'm sure.
That and its a lot less harsh vibrations/noise than a 7.3 or cummins.

Yes 05 is still LLY I think that was the only full production year for it LB7 was first max and used until mid 04, then the LLY until end of 05 and 06-07classic was the LBZ, LB7 and LLY are 5 speed ally and LBZ is 6 speed

Update. Had the charge pipes polished. Por15'd the rust prone spots, then painted most the engine bay. Got the engine back together. Just need to do both oil pan gaskets and its ready to put back in. A lot of cleaning and other odds and ends have made this take forever, but its turned out great so far. Enjoy.

At long last its done. Ended up with a long list of things we did as far as mods and maintenance go. As of right now the gauges still need mounted, catch can mounted, clearance lights rewired, stack, and the A/C leaked over 2 days (just need new o rings probably). The exhaust is just a 3 foot piece from MBRP right now, until I either put a stack on or maybe a turndown. It sounds really sweet right now. Other than that this thing runs great, especially for not having a tuner yet.
The List -
Painted/Por15 engine bay and frame
Head gaskets with ARP studs
Cleaned and decked heads with new valve guides - D&R engines
Intake bridge, manifolds cleaned/blasted - D&R
Air to air and radiator dipped - H&S Radiator
New overflow
New thermostats
all new gaskets for everything we touched
painted engine
drilled fuel fittings
shimmed fuel pressure relief valve
new FPR
new belt
both oil pan gaskets
ouside air temperature sensor relocation
Screamin Diesel Performance EGR Delete
Merchant Auto PCV reroute (catch can)
Air resonator delete (plugged)
MBRP 3" Downpipe
LML drivers side exhaust manifold
LB7 passenger side up pipe (for egr delete)
Turbo exhaust side, exhaust manifolds, up pipes, and down pipe ceramic coated by Cool Concepts
Up pipes/downpipe wrapped in titanium wrap
Gauge cluster rebuilt with led lights, new stepper motors, resistors, etc. - Gaugespegged
Auto meter Bowtie Sport Comp II Pyrometer and Boost gauge
New GM air filter
New external Trans filter and fluid(tranny has tags that its been rebuilt by Allison ReTran)
Polished intercooler pipes
Pressure washed everything we could, and hand cleaned the rest. That plastic valance over the radiator is an eyesore though.
Cleaned/tested injectors - Midwest Fuel Injection
Rewrapped/tapped bad harness looming
New headlights (no amber corners)
I think thats most of it. Next is to focus on making the outside look as clean as the engine bay is now.

Well I finally got a tune on it. Its a 5 way adjustable efi live setup. Seeing as how I don't have a turn down or anything running the smoke tune really just smokes out my own truck. Its definitely a different animal now. Right now its really hard to get a good pull in it, it just breaks all 4 loose in this cold (and nothing is really that dry).
Since the last update its had the LBZ turbo mouthpiece added. The only performance bolt on I have left to do really is a lift pump and finish up the exhaust. It'll need traction bars and tie rod sleeves for sure but then that'll be it for anything performance related.
Here's how it sounds in the smoke/lope tune.

sometime down the road I'd like to do new style clearance lights, tow mirrors, and badges. Paint a few things black. Nicer front bumper valance with fogs would be nice too. Right now is just maintenance. Power steering pump, wheel bearing, steering box or pitman/idler arm issue, new tires, finish the exhaust... thats part of the list. Its close to 200k so a lot of general wear parts are just needing replaced.

How is this possible? LLY w/5sp Allison? Sure would like to know how to get this kinda of mpg, especially with winter fuels only available. Are you getting these #'s from the DIC or are you actually calculating the mpgs.

Well the LBZ mouthpiece is no joke 2.5mpg gain. Have most the small mods I can do done. EGR delete, high flow manifold, fresh heads, cleaned all the carbon in the intake up. And it only has 3 feet of exhaust. The extended cab short box is about 6900-7100lbs (23 gal tanks). Might be a high ratio transfer case. Since I got the right tire size programmed now I'm going to start going off the trip to see how accurate the computer is. In the process of that with the current tank. This was in short distances when I reset the average system so those are strictly highway miles. In town has been a little difficult with the weather but it has improved too. All in the MPG tune.
And colton its definitely quicker. Makes me feel like things are going to break.
Snoclo
02-19-2014, 06:13 AM
23 mpgs is still 5 mpgs better than my best to date, and that was on 70ish degree day running non-blended #2. I have a couple hundred #'s more as my truck is a crew cab. I have the things you hsve mentioned, mine is a 06' w/LBZ - 6sp, also have the 5 DSP Efi-live programmed by Codden from ATP, truck gets milage on #4 which is the 125-140hp over stock tune. Best to date 18.4 hwy/16.5city, and I thought mine was good.
Domestic Disturbance

I've heard of them getting over 20 with a tune plenty of times. I'll find out how accurate those claims are as well as my trucks mpg calculator by this weekend. Member bowtiebuba was with me for the 25mpg in 4wd at 55. My mpg tune is a 70rwhp tune(done by longhornfab). It also has 285s which I know aren't helping the mileage. I don't know my gears or options because there's no door sticker so that doesn't help. Currently using Howes winter additive.
Sounds like a nice truck though. Ever had it on a dyno or at the track? I know its not really the purpose of the truck but it blows me away how quick they can go.
Snoclo

Yep, heard some claims over 20, usually these are 2wds. That's why I was wondering if you were calculating , or reading from DIC. Mine consistently give more than I actually get for mpgs. Right now my truck is on 295/70/18 Nitto Terra Grapplers, haven't really noticed a difference in mpgs from when I had the 325/60/18 M/T ATZ's. Best time ever at the track was 12.96 on stock tires but looked ridiculous with my 6" lift, best time with my current 295"s has been 13.62 @ 100mph. never been dynode, but was estimated that it should be about 525-540rwhp and 850-900tq.

Damn thats pretty quick. Do you have anything else like injectors?
It'll be a while before I get to figure it out. Turbo vane position sensor is going bad I think so I'm parking it for a while.

Efi Live, egr block off, Diamond Eye turbo down pipe, Silver Line full 4" exhaust, Banks boost tubes, Fass HD-150 lift pump w5/8" line & 3/4" pickup tube.
I get the turbo vane pos. 2583/003 thing regularly.

Ya mine has been acting goofy since I got it, but after seeing my boost gauge bury the needle I unplugged the sensor and leave it parked for the most part. Lift pump is definitely on my to do list though.

IDK diesels, so whats causing you to run too high a boost?

My vane position sensor went bad. I have the factory VVT Turbo. It was supposed to be opening the vanes and it wasn't. Vanes are staying shut with the sensor hooked up so its building too much boost. Just mild cruising builds 7-8psi. With it unplugged the vanes default to open. My turbo has awful boost lag now.

Is that tune just for the lope? Or is that the highest tune and it just happens to sound like that?

"lope tune". Pretty sure its just to make it sounds choppy.

I figured, just hoping they wouldn't make a specific tune just to make a truck sound like that... I was hoping for another advantage lol

Been doing the math and found out that computer is very generous for MPGs. Driving like a normal person it gets 18/22. Any 'coal rolling' or similar tom foolery gets it down in the 17s. Can't complain at all but needed to correct that from my earlier claims. Also got the autometers mounted. Way prettier than glowshifts :biggrin:https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpf1/v/t1.0-9/10427280_2616687934653_3663166543019435551_n.jpg?o h=308cb42d198328f93074546512cb4f1a&oe=5479CB28&__gda__=1416555972_7a583ee6982df9d2e6c12fb0237e2a0 e

Needs manual...we averaged 26mpgs in Marcus' Cummins driving down to Missouri. :D
