Being that i am getting ready for a tune and some dyno time, i hav ebeen on a few sites looking up differnet peopels dyno numbers to try and see around where i think i will be. I am curious on what your guys' estimates are on my setup.
Stock bottom LQ4
232/234 .595/.598 Cam
Hand ported 862 Casting 5.3L heads - (around 10.8:1 compression)
Brain Tooley dual valve springs
Comp Cams chromolly pushrods
LS9 Head Gaskets LS1 Intake
LS1 Ex. Headers w/ 2.5" dual exhaust
Looking for numbers off the bottle ... not with the spray. Thoughts?

No tune, and no accessories? Id expect 320 range but easily a bit more with a tune.

It shall be tuned when on the dyno. Hoping to break 350

Yeah, on a Superflow, I'd expect around 320hp

What trans? Can the converter be locked if it's a auto? I know it's a xer lobe cam, but what lsa, icl? Is that stock ls1 manifolds or actual long tubes? Who ported the heads, valve size, flow numbers and what chamber volume? I'd like to calculate the dcr to get a better idea, but it's really hard to say if a unlocked auto.
If it's a unlocked auto like a t350 or t400(think you had a t350) I'm sure it won't dyno really high, but still run very hard at the track. Dependinng on how tight/loose the converter is, etc will change the number so much. If it was a manual I'd say it would do a little over 400whp on a dynojet (410-430 or so). That size cam on a really good ported 243 would make over 450 if the dcr was strong, but the dished pistons of a lq4 don't give the best quench either so. Car should fly on the bottle though if everythings working right.

Trans is a t350. Converter is a TCI with a 3500 stall and anti-balooning plate. LSA of the cam is a 112 Stock ls1 manifolds not long tubes. Valve size is the stock 1.89" intake (which is going to kill me i know) and exhaust valve is 1.55" Never got flow numbers after the porting. Chamber volume is 61cc.
The 5.3 with the same setup except a 04 z06 cam and valve springs and the heads were unported through the same trans and converter put down 290hp / 280 tq

I retract my previous guess then. Didn't realize you were on stock manifolds.

You're gonna do the same numbers on a Superflo then.

Thats what i first told Clint when i was talkign to him about it. I woudl prolly put down 290 Karls just like i put down 290 on RPM speeds

Clint, whats the ~ percentage diff between the superflow and dynojet? Any baseline stock car numbers for reference? So it's the same setup as the old one with a 6.0 block, ported heads and bigger cam? I think 320-330 might be in the ballpark then. With that cam i would have advanced it more to bring up DCR on the low compression 6.0 block, but it should still run decent. Never measured piston to valve on a lq4 dish piston, but it might have been tight with a lower ICL. When are you going to run this thing so we can find out?

Same setup but now its the 6.0, Cam, and ported heads. When i assembled i measured PTV clearance and all checked out well. i can not recall what they were though at the moment. But i remember i would have had plenty of room to mill the heads like i had discussed earlier. I think my next mod would be to put larger Intake valves in the heads and probably an LS6 intake. All depending on what i run though. If i hit a decent time i will be happy with it.
Hopefullly i will have all of the nitrous stuff wired in and on the car over this weekend and maybe hit the dyno next weekend?? That all depends on when Clint is availible.

I wouldn't mess with the 5.3 heads much as the runner volume is small. Go with a 799/243 down the road with good cnc work or aftermarket. Or stick a cheap 76mm on it :).

I almost bought a set of 243's when i was assembling the whole thing. However the guy was being sketchy as hell and backed out at the last minute. I think this shoudl get me to where i want to be. If not, a set of 243's are not to much i suppose - its the CNC work or going aftermarket that kicks you in the wallet. Really not looking to go with a turbo either. Woudl like to stay away from FI at the moment atleast. It seems to do well enough on the spray.

West coast cylinder heads or RPM (can't remember which) in Cali just had a special on $450 CNC work. It was a sweet deal, but not sure if the sale is over or not. I would have sent my 317's to them rather than spending 12 hours grinding on them myself. Just keep an eye out in the future.

So far so good. It took a little cleaning up just from it sitting so long. But it all checked out well. i cracked the pan off to check it all out and had to swap oil pans and pickups yada yada yada. . . Holds good pressure and no funny noises so i guess thats a win lol. Hopefully it runs well on the dyno as well. I started hooking the bottle back up to it tonight. Once that all gets done then its tune time.

She's got some lump.
I think you'll have fun this year with it. Have the fun, then wait to tear it down next winter. I slightly regret starting my project so late in the winter. Probably be running mid or late summer.

I'd say a FAST or even a ls6 intake would be a good move on this thing if it's still got a ls1 intake. Should be good for 10-30hp on top if the fast is ported. Does anyone make a nice set of cheap swap headers yet for these? If they fit I know ls7/ls9 manifolds flow really well for stock. It's just missing a few key things to wake it up, but I'd say it's probably 40-50hp better than the old setup.

I would really like to buy a decent intake. Howeer being that i have a Plate kit on the nitrous i can not go larger then stock without replacing the nitrous plate. However, i have looked into an LS6 intake and that will most likely happen sometime this spring. For the price plus me selling my LS1 intake Its a wise move
No headers that are cheap for my swap. I think the cheapest set out there is $800. I have already been talking about my project next winter would be making myself a set of decent headers. I coudnt agree more then an intake and headers would help waken it up quite a bit.
Speaking of nitrous, i got the uner hood portion of it all installed and wired up again. Now i jsut have all the interior wiring to get done. Hopefully here inthe next few days.

You might be able to find a nice used fast 78 just a FYI. Don't some guys cut the flanges off mustang headers for some of these? Look into the ls7/ls9 manifolds for a cheap upgrade, but you need the downpipe flange also since it is a weird flange.

Your right about the guys using mustang headers for these. I have looked into that as well. I will either go that route or make my own like stated before. You can get away with a set of headers for around $400 If you were to make your own using the foxbody headers.
