View Full Version : Karl Performance Dyno Visit!

First off, let me start by saying, and re-stating how impressive the entire facility is at Karl Performance. I almost felt like I should have taken my shoes off walking through the place.
Anyways, most all of you know of my issues at CFR. Thought it was something major, turned out to be just that stupid bypass valve, again. Took the valve covers off, did a compression test, a leakdown test, everything under there looked brand new. That much was a relief.
Decided today give it a thorough test and make a couple pulls on the dyno. Long story short, car pulled clean all the way to redline, zero issues only to check the data log to see that it is only making 21-22#'s of boost by redline. I'm currently pullied to make 26ish psi so something is up. Probably that bypass valve again. This time around, I'm going to do something different with it rather than just try to fix it. I'm going to call Vortech tomorrow.
Anyways, the car ended up making 681.3/644.8. On only 22 psi, knowing that I have another ~4 psi to get factored in, I am super happy. That blower is just starting to wake up at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if I saw 15-20 rwhp per additional hp. This car will make 750 rwhp on that dyno eventually. I'm certain of it.

Thanks go to Ryan at Karl Performance, it was such an awesome experience. Everything went so smooth you can tell that making horsepower at that place is just part of a day's work!
Not dialed in just yet, but, soon enough, we'll be making some power!

Clint, my bad for not mentioning you, the flipping dyno operator! Great job working through my lack of an e-brake. You're one of the reasons our visit was such a good one. Thanks again!

no what im saying is just cause the car moves on the the street doesn't mean its a street car.... that car would probably over heat at the first stop light it came to

okay so just and idea but if the said cage issue were eliminated as in i cut the cage out of my car would it then be a treetcar? Or reversed if imports rx7 had a full cage would it not longer be a streetcar?
..
I know of a car that is a full tube car with 33s on it and a tbi305 thats daily driven.. not saying i understand why but it exists so is that a streetcar?

thanks for butchering my original post i kinda like it LOL
the question is, would you WANT to drive a car on the street with a full cage and no hp or a car with decent hp and no/ very little cage
you seem to be focusing just on the cage aspect of things... and since you are i know that Ryan (importevolution) would not drive his car half as much as he does if he had anymore of a cage in it... shit he was complaining about the swing out door bar on the way home from the shootout just cause he had to get out of the car to get taco's

I agree to this. But its hard to decide whats practical... But in my case my cars legal and i can drive it daily and no issues so to me its a streetcar... Trying to get a reason why its not other than its fast and has a cage.

id call that a streetABLE car not a street car, street cars should see actual street time more than from your garage to your trailer to get it to the track

here's another angle for you then when you get to the point that your car is making enough power that you are no longer running pump gas i think you step out of the street car "class"...... IN MY OPINION you should be able to turn a key, start your car drive it to the grocery store, pick up some stuff, and stop on the way home to get gas.... all with out having to drain your tank and pull out the laptop and switch your tune

haha, ignored for stupidity but here is your response...... you have built a car around the 10.5 rules and regs... but you won't be running on race gas so there is most likely no way you will be competitive in 10.5.... so instead of building an awesome race car and calling it that and using it for that you have prolly ran out of money and are trying to now justify putting a little pump gas motor in a purpose built race car by getting everyone on here to agree with you that it is a street car.... If it will shut you up i will call your car a street car from now on when i talk about it.... happy medium?

you have an awesome car k-ville, end of story . you do what you got to do to make it reach your goals, doesn't matter if it take 3+ years in my opinion as long as it gets done. i prefer taking baby steps and keeping the car drivable for at least some each year even if that means having to go back in later and fix/change/do it right later. but it takes an enormous amount of time and money and research to make a car like that and most people don't understand until they do it themselves. it'll still be faster than what most people on here will ever build in a lifetime, including myself. i'd rather deal with any cage on an 8-9-10 second car and go through the hassle of the harness and no air/ps/ power / spool, loud gutted etc etc whatever you need to do to hit your goals. still better than to drive just another average car running 13,14,15's .
not to say you can't have a blast with a 13 second car on an autocross track/corners etc. but for me, a street car i can't see myself building anything in the future that at least doesn't have the potential to run 10's. my wife subaru legacy gt 2.5 turbo supposedly can run low 14's stock but i haven't modded it because it just doesn't interest me because i know how tough it would be (money, time, comfort sacrifices) to make it reliably put down 600+whp.
as for the IAF Auto class street car rules, that class is designed to fill in where the 10.5 class leaves off. so there is a lot of stupid rules to try to achieve that. it was purposely designed to try to attract 10,11,12 second cars. maybe next year we may try changing the rules to bring in 9 second caliber cars...who knows. but there are many 10.5 races that are great for 7-8 second cars so i don't feel the need to have another one

Totally understandable! And in all reality im as easy to get along with as anyone on here i just like messin with people sometimes! But heres how I see it. If you want a 10 11 12 sec car class run an index class... Dont try and have a heads up streetcar class then eliminate cars that are fully street worthy just because they are fast. You can try and take the streetcar badge away from my car to keep me out all you want but at the end of the day my car still has every option it came from the factor with minus heat and powersteering. It will have full insterior once i can get tye money saved to have someone do it around all the cage. And ill drive it from knoxville to cf filling at gas stations... Streetcar? In my book i dont see why not.
