Since I keep cleaning/deleting posts in the registration thread, lets use this thread for the final discussions leading up to this years event. The other 4 old threads have old/wrong info and a lot of fighting.

Where'd all the boosted honda guys go? I may have to bring up the snatchback and take the FWD trophy home.

I don't think I'll be able to barrow the SS. Maybe I can get the kid who brought it to come out, I think he goes to school in Cedar Falls

Will there be a session before the competition for some shake down runs?

Will there be chances for grudge races after?

Is there any real schedule?

Its an open test-n-tune day at the track so you can run whenever you'd like as long as you are on time when the tower calls your elimination round.

The rounds won't start for at least an hour after the track starts running. To get bracket seating we will take you best timeslip from your test pass or passes. You don't have to make a qualifying pass, but in that case you will most likely get seated unfavorably against a faster qualifying car. The bracket seating will put the fastest cars against the slowest cars initially, allowing for the fastest cars to meet up in the final rounds.

I'll try to add more details the week before the race.

OK, so it is a true heads up, run what ya brung, fastest car wins? I assume this will be a standard tree?

So I guess I should have asked this earlier, but if my car goes faster than NHRA says it can - without a cage - is that going to be a problem?

the track will have the responsibility for all safety rules/inspections. they probably won't kick you until you start dipping past the mid ten mark. but during inspection you might not want to tell them your optimistic times.

I know the rules and I could meet them, I just think its funny when you advertise it as "fastest streetcar shootout" when you automatically eliminate the fast street cars LOL

slow ride
10-04-2012, 05:25 PM
I guess everybody has there own definition of street car right? Just because you can drive around the block and hit up sonic or something doesn't make it a street car to me (not saying you do, but just in general). Sure, in drag raciing classes they call it a street car deal if you run a 10.5 or drag radial, but the cars are quite high caliber and most of the normal cars that get driven a lot could not compete.

This could be a long debate and I know lots of guys on here think differently than me and thats fine, but you have to know what I'm getting at right? This thing is more set up for cars that "could" be or "are" daily driver type street cars rocking most the creature comforts they came with, etc.

We all know who has the fastest cars in the area and it's the 10.5 guys period. I also know there might be some rails or tube frame stuff thats faster in the area, but that shit doesn't even interest me.

I agree some cars are better street cars than others. No doubt about it a/c power everything and navigation are nice. But that doesnt make a less creature comfort car not a streetcar either. Just my 2cents. And while im at it whats wrong with cars with full cages? Aside from the fact the would likely rape the class given its fast enough to need the cage?..

I think the full cage has been gone over a number of times with the street car topic. Yes you can drive a car with a full cage on the street but it isn't safe without the proper safety equipment. I know I wouldn't want to get in a wreck with a full cage on the street.

Ryan,

Is there anything going on for bikes like we talked about quite a while ago for Saturday. And if so how strict are they going to enforce the rules on leathers and whatnot. At midnight manias they havent said a thing as long as I had high top shoes, jacket, jeans, gloves, and a heltmet. They seem to be a little more strict on regular test and tunes but wasn't sure how it would be being the event that you guys are putting on.

AutoMods

There isn't anything setup for bikes, sorry, maybe next year. If anything I would think the night races would be more strict on safety as the traction and visibility is less

You're not going to be doing any bar-hopping in Cedar Falls unless you're willing to shell out some doe. As it is homecoming this weekend, the cover at the bars will be $10-20 just to get in the door all weekend past 7pm.

Well thats why I asked. I don't think there are a lot of places that would be close to all the hotels, etc. Jack and Arnies is in the boonies, I live in the boonies (remember your favorite e85 station). I know Wartburgs homecoming is this weekend also so the Waverly area would probably be a no go.

truck ran a full second faster than i expected; and it pretty much went how i expected it to- all depended on how well i could launch it. next year i hope to have 4.56 gears in the rear, and maybe turn the boost up a little and see if i can't break into the 12's. honestly, i think i felt just as good if not better when my truck made the drive there, raced all day, and made it back home without any issues. not bad for a budget daily driver.

great seeing everyone; i had a great time.

truck ran a full second faster than i expected; and it pretty much went how i expected it to- all depended on how well i could launch it. next year i hope to have 4.56 gears in the rear, and maybe turn the boost up a little and see if i can't break into the 12's. honestly, i think i felt just as good if not better when my truck made the drive there, raced all day, and made it back home without any issues. not bad for a budget daily driver.

I enjoyed seeing your progress through the day. After you talked to Chris you started to move out much better. I think some suspension may help, however it is rwd.

Hopefully Casey's car is not a big deal and he is able to get it on the road again quickly.

I also enjoyed watching the integra. Had his sh*t together and it paid off.

If only mine broke clean, outside the diff, I'd have given him a run for his money on change time! haha

You were really getting after it. I remember the passes you made at eddyville and figured you would be right at the 10.9-11.0 area. Then I saw the first pass and figured it was a sure thing. Love the car though, get it built up and back in action next year.

Everywhere we go his car gets so much love... So much in fact we all give him shit about it multiple times. He picks up so many dudes it would even make Sparkles jealous.

I'll be honest I'm a bit worried about his block haha

Until a few weeks ago he had been running a built GSR block. Then changing the headgasket while he replaced the clutch, the headstuds pulled the threads out of the block. Said there wasnt any bad resistance or anything. Pretty freaky thing, motor ran damn good it's a shame. took his old LS block and threw the internals into it. Really surprised it's been holding together, he's really pushing the limits of that block.

Well it looked great and provided some well needed motivation. Hopefully he can get another block for it soon that can hold the power with out worry.
