Stolen Car ...

Around 12:30 this morning, somebody walked to 4 Guys Auto and started trying to get into cars....
He threw a glass at a window and then spent over 2 hours in 2 cars that were unlocked.

He ended up stealing a white 2005 Chevy Malibu... leaving at 3:13am. (Thursday, July 26)

The car looks just like the one above. The Chevy bow-tie on the chrome piece isn't there.
It had roughly 113k miles and had a 4 Guys Auto sticker on the back as well as plastic dealer plates on it. (I'm sure the plates were removed)

We have the guy on camera and found the glass came from Chuck and Dale's Bar, right up the street on Johnson Ave.
Last 6 of the VIN is 217568.

If you guys see anything, my cell# is 319-533-8073 ... I'd say call 911, but the odds of spotting any other white Malibu that wasn't ours, is pretty high.

I have a bad picture of the guy that did it off our video camera, but you can't see much... seeing as I took a picture of a video on a monitor. lol

Chuck and Dale's told me they have very good cameras, but I do not yet know what the police found when they went there. The guy probably left the bar at 12:20 or so, walked to our lot, and finally found something to steal 3 hours later in the pouring rain.

dont you have an alarm? People break into our shop they got a 2 minute window before the cops get there. On that note I would go across the street and butter those guys up for a copy and then go hunting.

The car wasn't inside or behind a gate. It was outside by our shop.

Yes but how did he get around the theft system? Where was the keys?

2 women came in this morning with the keys... one of their sons took the car.
He turned himself in a few hours later.

We actually got a full tank of gas out of the deal and pressed charges.

sweet deal except the glass, could have been worse

There was no damage to the car stolen.
The car on our lot got some pretty deep gouges in the door glass.
2 other cars got some trim pieces screwed up, but thats it.

How did he get the keys?

Somebody left the keys in it... the car had been outside for a week locked up. Somebody was in it that day for some reason and didn't put the keys back.
