Tossing around the idea of going to one of these. Anyone else interested?

This one looks the most fun although it would be a lot less forgiving for error. June 9

Marshaltown is way more fun than dodging cones.

I'd ride to Marshalltown with you for the July one. Can't do the one this weekend.

Marshalltown is always fun. That first corner is fine just don't drive a contour like a jackass.
Newton is also a good time and works more on driver skill compared to marshalltown which is the same every time.

I would recommend both events and wish I could attend both but my wedding is this weekend and won't be able to make it. Damn women.

+1 , that is the only corner that you have some good speed going into and if you miss it, it will be a bumpy ride off course. heard a story of a guy flipping his car there

It was pretty fun I must say. A lot of waiting in between runs, the the laps themselves are awesome!

^ i remember your corvette ate a little grass too :) i went for a ride and greg's corvette as a passenger and its amazing to feel them corner. the first time, first corner, i thought for sure he was going into the corner too fast but it was fine. and his times were a few seconds slower then yours. its a bit scary as a passenger when your not in control

damn, that svt was totaled. must suck, wonder if those guys try to make a false insurance claim. if not , thats a quick way to hurt the wallet

Rick (driver of the svt) said it was caused my a combination of cold tires and a hot driver, and I'm pretty sure insurance covered it.

Yea, you could see the guy was all over the place before getting to that corner.

If I can get some new struts on my contour I'd like to go to the next one. Mtown is fun, even if they were giving me crap telling me not to roll it. My car is silver haha

I did a 1:39, 1:36, and I think my last pass was 1:33. Haven't seen it posted yet. I really need some better tires and would also like to do sfc's before I do it much more, but I was definitely happy.

You definitely need better tires, I pulled a 1:28 in my shitty FWD Cougar in 2010 on Dunlop Direzza Star Specs.

lol that was my old red one...I made the mistake again and had a grey one after I sold the red one.

grey was stock, with sticky tires and suspension, 2k dollar beater basically.

The star specs are a good tire and will make a huge difference. Hankook RS3s are also a good tire.
What car were you driving?

Nice. Tires and practice. I think I was running 1:27-1:30 in my mustang on drag radials. My contour on the other hand has beasted a 1:26 on all seasons with the clutch slipping.

my biggest issue was overbraking. Also the gearing made it rather interesting. I just left it in 2nd cause it had the torque to pull through it, but 3.55's would help greatly (with tires).

I leave mine in second and hit the limiter a time or two. You want to brake hard and late and stay on the inside of the every corner. My best lap time is 38.9 from last year at the Iowa region event.

Please tell me you have subframe connectors on that car already...T-Top car and auto crossing without them = bad shit.

Did I miss something? I saw 1:28-1:38. Your time is just... 38?!

If you pull into any auto-x event and see a red evo... You may as well go home, cause it will kill any hope you have of getting fastest time of the day.

When the SCCA runs mtown they just run 1 lap. My fastest two lap time to date is 1:20:18 from last year. I have yet to run two laps this year but think I could pull out a 1: 17:xx

I like the analytical thinking part of it. I think adrenaline drowns out a lot while driving, but thinking how much time you have to brake, how fast can you go through this spot and the tires will grip, could I drop a gear here or there? I feel like I've been doing auto sport wrong for so long. Thats not to say I don't still enjoy drag racing :)
