I haven't hunted any since I was probably about 12-13 except the one time I tried to take my boy when he was 5. He's 10 now and expresses more interest, so we've been out the last 3 weeks. Picked probably 4 dozen the last 2-3 weeks. The abnormally warm spring has made them pop pretty early and the overgrowth is getting pretty established. Doubt I'll get many more this year. Found this gem today with an employee of mine. We only found 4, but this is by far, the largest I've ever picked. 9 inches tall and 1/3lb.

not really "hunting" as much as "looking for"...

Actually, I was yelling at my kid

Me: "You keep missing them. One just ran right out in front of you"
Kid: "Huh? I thought they grew out of the ground?"
Me: "They do, but then they grow legs and run around. That's why it's called hunting and not picking"
Kid: "Huh?"

I always like to keep him guessing when I say something completely stupid with a straight face. Dry humor. He was actually spotting them better than I was last Sunday. He found 13 by himself. Must be the proximity to the ground.

So let me get this straight; you went into the woods with an employee of yours, and found a "9 incher, the largest you've ever found." I think this is just TMI.
