hi--i've got a line on 3 different complete LQ4 6.0's ranging from 102,000 up to 141,000. i am wondering what an honest price these would be worth if anyone has any idea....i am buying 2 of them so i would like to get an idea on what most guys are paying for them without overpaying! Thanks in advance!

Those are relatively low miles for junkyard engines. My motor had 210k on it and the cylinders still had some cross hatches and crank was good. I paid $675 for mine. Most junkyards will ask $800-$1100 for long block lq4's with those miles. car-part.com

all 3 LQ4's are private owners, one i know personally which is the one with 102,000 and out of an '01 or '02 and the other 2 were calls i received were that of a friend of a friend type deal....so $700-$800 for any of them would be pretty decent price to buy then as this is about where i am at on all 3? they are all complete and i think the newest one is an '04 or '05 but that one has the 142,000.

and i forgot to ask....are there better years to look for to buy than others or are all the LQ4's pretty much the same? Thanks again!

Not much difference. LQ9 has higher compression due to the pistons. The very first year of the LQ4 (I think 99', but need to check) had the crank spacer cast into the crank so it's doesn't work so well for the car guys not running a 4l80, etc.

The LQ4 6.0 truck motor from 1999 and 2000 had iron heads and different length crank . in 2005 and newer, the lq4's have slightly stronger rods which are the same as lq9 and ls2 rods. not a huge deal as both oem rods are pretty strong.

Sorry to jack OP thread but did you put different heads on your Vette?

i am assuming from what i've been told from a few people & have read on other forums, the '99-'00 LQ4's are not really too desirable? the one that has the 102,000 miles on it has iron heads so i've been told that is a '99-'00 but it is all complete with p/s, brackets, etc. and i can buy that one for $700. or just best to spend another $50-$100 and get a '06 with 141,000? i am new to the 6.0 stuff, and have been told the earlier ones aren't really anything special especially with the iron heads and that i should at least look for one with aluminum heads. or would it still be decent if i put a set of L92 heads on it and a cam? anyone have any input on the earlier versions?

i think the longer 99-00 crank length effects which trannys can go on it so that crank is less desirable . plus aluminum heads are worth $100-150 right there. Plus those 99-2000 engines are getting old, stuff starts to rust and sensors go bad with age. its not all about low mileage. go for the 06 one

that's what i am most likely going to do! it has more miles, same money (give or take $50) but it seems i've noticed that most are saying the rods, crank, etc. are better on the '06 anyway. i just want to get something started on it and build from there....cam and a set of L92 most likely and let the girls run it! Thanks for your input!
