i AM putting an sn95 dash in a 67 mustang

the only reason i yell the am is because everything i have read on this says it cant be done or it shouldnt be done.
I disagree.
its true that the 67 has a beautiful dash, but the problem is if i spend the 1500 to restore my interior it will only look exactly like every light blue 67 mustang ever built. all 125thousand of them. on top of this i want to be able to use the car every day, and the 67 not only has no interior storage, but since i swapped in a 90s 5.0 none of my gauges but the fuel, and tach work. thats annoying. and to buy all new aftermarket ones and make them look good in my dash just doesnt work as well as most people would like to think it does.
so what to do?
im going to put my favorite mustang interior into my favorite mustang.
say what you want about cutting up and/or desecrating a piece of americana. but its a bare bones inline six car with the only options being a push-button am radio and a remote mirror. besides, its long past being an accurate restoration.


i have added this to my colossal list of things to do to the mustang by this summer.
i will be taking lots of pictures as i go along, and documenting all my triumphs and tribulations. i will also be posting an abbreviated version of it on my ds build thread. im excited and terrified about doing this. it shouldnt be too terrible as the width is already perfect and the front curve is nearly perfect.
the biggest obstacle for me will be building the wiring harness for the gauge pod.
the rest is just getting rid of the old dash and making the new one fit.

well more parts are on the way! after this week ill have everything i need to get everything done im wanting to this year. my subframe connectors are on their way from kc, they should be here on tuesday and either monday or wednesday im getting a set of back seats out of a 98 (they arent my bullitts or mach one seats but they are black and will work for now) the steering column, and the rear belts. I just noticed yesterday the car was made without seat belts in the back, and i have a youngster so i am planning on welding in mounting points for the 3pt belts. im even getting the rear seat out of the deal, so depending on the width i may see if i can get that to work too.

well all the parts are in. black cloth seats front and rear, i was actually amazed at how little fab work will be needed for the back seat to fit, and i have already done the swap to a pair of fox body seats in the front so that wont be bad. subframe connectors came in the mail, floorpan is in the garage as is all my new suspension stuff i have one steering column now and i need to figure out how to get that one from ron. whichever on is in lesser shape will be used for mock up and for now then ill swap out to the nicer one next year or whenever i do my swap to rack and pinion. i just got everything today so ill prolly start mocking things up this weekend. or tomorrow... whichever comes first

checking to see what i have ahead of me with the back seat. the back part is 2inches too narrow and will require changing the mounting bracket on the top of the seat. the bottom is the perfect width just needs reshaped a little. but luckily there is no metal frame. i could mount up both as is and not many would notice the difference, but i took the easy way once and i was never happy with the result it pretty much haunted my dreams until i re-did everything

im currently working 12 hour shifts and weekends (yay moneys for carpet, door panels, and steel!) so i prob wont be able to update for a week or more, but im really excited for when i can get more time and start doing some actual work and not just playing around with parts.

Well I finally started working on this today. I got the interior gutted and vacuumed out, and received some bad news. It looks like the whole passenger side floor pan needs replaced, not just the front like I originally thought. I also need a new seat base For the passenger side. It kinda blows but the good news is for the premium replacement parts. It's only 150 shipped to my door and only 100 for the standard parts. But I have delt with "standard parts" before and I would rather pay the extra money. Also, my drag radials fit perfect ... Like wow! I'm a fan. I'll post pics later

after a considerable amount of cutting on the dash i finally got it to fit in there.

as you can see in these pics the console doesnt even come close to fitting i had to do a little trimming to the pan underneath it and i got it to drop a little bit now to just tilt the bottom of the dash out and everything will line up!

also i got my floorpans in. and more bad news and money to spend. the dash just so happens to be gigantic compared to the original an it looks like a power window conversion will be in the works

i think what is going to end up happening since i had to cut everything down so much is ill get it all where it needs to be and then mark it, pull the plastic/rubber part off the frame and then just weld the frame in and bolt everything back to the frame. it would make it much easier to run all the wires and hide shit and whatnot too.

honestly the hardest part has been dealing with the asymmetry of the dash. i was amazed at how off-center everything in an sn95 is. the 67 is almost perfectly symmetrical and the newer one is off nearly 2.5 inches. crazy

just finished tacking all the brackets for the new dash. unfortunately i had to cut two of the factory mount points off the dash but i will be fabbing up at least one entirely new one and using bigger bolts/thicker metal for the remaining. hopefully i can have pictures tonight

well just a little update. i got it all rewired. sorta. the car starts and runs. the next day i get out to the garage ill be putting the interior back together and taking more pictures. i prolly wont get the gauges wired in for a little while but its not like i have had any for the last 7 years anyways.
im really starting to get excited because the end is finally within my grasp. also. there is a lot of guys on here with manuals. what are you using to trigger your two step ? i was leaning towards the neutral safety switch on my clutch but then wouldn't it trigger on shifts? then i thought my brake, like on an auto, but then i realized im not holding my brake whilst staging... so what then? aside from using a button on my shifter and my clutch and just wiring them in series... and last for this update :boobies: because everyone loves boobies

some cars with 2 step can look at the vehicle speed sensor to see if the car is moving. If not moving and clutch is pressed in, 2 step is armed. That is how dsmlink/ecmlink tuning software does it for mitsu's.

We also have several customers that allow the 2-step to trigger during the shifts to use it as an engine torque cut to help shifts and allow them to no lift shift.

I've actually personally tried "no lift to shift"/2 step rpm cut between shifts, its actually helps shift

oh yeah the subframes ahead of the firewall are worked pretty good. i havent gotten it apart yet to see how well the engine did but from what i can tell the crank and waterpump still have space around them. so im feeling optimistic about the engine

they make repros and you can cut and weld new in. they make reproduction everything for the car. its all going to come down to if the sentimental value and the cost of putting an entirely new front clip and doing all the body/frame work on it are worth it. or it would be better to just find a new shell to put all my goodies in. if that is the case im leaning towards a ranger or sn95, maybe a mid sixties galaxy. regardless it would be named "betty's revenge"
but
if the unibody isnt tweaked the car will get completely torn down, blasted and made better than ever over many many hundreds of years lol. it will definately get this http://www.fatmanfab.com/mustang.php the front clip setup. replaces everything structural and uses sn95 spindles so cobra brakes would be a go.

whatever way it ends up going i will end up with a much better car from a technical standpoint. so i am looking at it as a blessing in disguise

sorry about those seat tracks... i kinda veered away from the whole car scene for a while. just made me feel terrible. The mustang will not be rebuilt. its just too far gone. even with the sentimental value its not worth it. even without the crash damage everything needed replaced, except what had already been replaced. and even some of that needed replaced. so. the plan for bettys revenge is to pull her apart. take all the good stuff out; the motor, tranny, rear end, harness, basically all the money parts. part out whats left. and start saving for a cobra replica, anyone who has been in my living room will know why and not ask questions. im leaning towards a superformance car. im going to save and buy with cash im sure it will take a few years to start buying major components but with my drivetrain i already have a fairly good start and my goal is to be running twin turbos off the 302 out unmuffled sidepipes. just the thought of that gets me excited.

I'm not going to weld mine I want to be able to unbolt it to do maintaince on the ac and heater core also I am able to use the wipers from the 97 as well let me know what u guys think about her , I have been ill for the last year but now getting back in to it , thanks woody

mine did unbolt there is pictures of the brackets i used the factory holes. in cutting it down i recommend using an air saw. the ends bolted to the body that is how it ended up being tied together
