I have one of my buddies that has a 1998 mustang GT with a 4.6 that's knocking he doesnt have an account on here so I'm posting this for him. But anyways he needs to find somebody that's willing to pull and rebuild his engine in his car due he has no garage and no tools to do it. I would offer to help but I'm current have no space in my garage due to my car being torn apart. He has money and just wants his car ready by spring for cruises so if anybody on here has free time and knows what there doing please message me and I will refer him your number. Thanks

Sent you a PM, I am very interested I have room and plenty of time on my hands, might be worth checking into rebuilding instead of just replacing the engine, I could provide either for him. We could have it in the garage tomorrow and maybe do a few "upgrades" while we're at it.

What does he want out of the car? Just a refresh? Even a decent of hand ported pe heads with a cam set upgrade does well for the 4.6L. A local friend made close to 300whp with something like that. Termi engine would be nice, but they are a little spendy. LS swaps are always fun also (not for some :)) Scott does know his chit.

Trick flow 2v heads are worlds ahead, CNC ported ones flow up there with stock 4v heads.
Anyways, I'd get the knock figured out before even tearing into it, could be something easy like a timing chain component or valve train.

Slow ride, I think you meant PI heads. 98 GT's didn't have PI heads, that didn't change until the following year. If he does go to Power Improved style heads he will get a small bump in compression. That plus a set of cams would be a world of difference.

I dont know what he is looking for power wise. If he wants to go 4 valve I have a 03 cobra long block for 3k with 36k on it. If he wants to stick with a gt 2v then look for a crown vic 4.6 99+ so it has pi heads. He will need a tune and that is it. You can get them at local junk yard for under 1k with 65kish miles. I also have a good friend that can do the swap for 750.

Im not interested, I am out of work now and have been looking for side jobs so everything has been put on hold pretty much. We need to find a decent donor engine for this car and see if we can work this deal out

I've been talking to him a little through texts, he has limited money to get the whole car running again which is doable if we can find a 4.6 for 700 bucks or less. I can swap in about any engine he would want into the car but anything other than stock is going to cost extra labor and parts that will go over budget pretty quickly.
Just not enough in the budget for a rebuild and I havent had luck finding a direct replacement 4.6 for the car in this area. If anyone can find a good engine that will drop in let me/him know and we can get the ball rolling.

there is a motor. They are all over ebay with in a few hrs. just look. He can get a non pi 4.6 for less if he has a tight budget.

Never heard of search tempest, I am trying to do a little more research but it sounds like he needs a pre-99 4.6 sohc engine because anything after that has different heads that will require a tune for the car. Im trying

Or a 99-04 ECM would negate the need for a tune.

Actually that one in desmoines might work, after some searching and asking questions on corral the 2000 4.6 may be equivilant and work just fine..

With the ECU from the 2000 correct? I bet the ECU MIGHT cost $100 extra or less.
