What's a good place to get your car professionally detailed?

Buffed and all, or just thoroughly cleaned and spotless (but no paint restoration)?

I have a friend who wants to get his car detailed from the engine bay to the trunk. He takes very good care of his cars and the person he use to use might not be around anymore is what he's thinking. So I figured I'd ask and see!

I don't know if his german loving ass is still around here, but Lenny used to do some pretty stellar work. He posted a few on here back in the day, but I dont remember his username to search. Maybe just Lenny? Real name is Dan Lensch

SLOSHO your work looks pretty good too. You need a better camera thats less grainy to pick up the color better.

Lenny isn't in CR anymore as far as I knew.... not exactly sure where though.

SLOSHO's work is good from what I've seen. He's not completely retarded either, so he's worth a shot.

Have you ever used them or seen there work? Im sure you will say yes even when you haven't. but they detail cars. they're not the best in the world true. but that's not what the OP asked for. he asked for good and professional. if your the best around offer your services and let the thread be over.

idk about anyone else, but I have a hard time trusting anyone to detailing my own vehicles. Especially if any buffing/polishing is involved. I find it easier to trust someone who does paint work for a living though as they at least understand the paint thats on the car, and are probably trained to complete the paint work which would include what a detailer might do. And for the record, I dont even trust myself.

their isnt very many detailers who actually do under the hoods either not because its hard or anything at all but because of the liability issues of it, like if a check engine light comes on or something!!! it takes most of a day to properly do the rest of the car anyways. this is also where you get what you pay for quik and cheap or right!! like most said on here hit up steve-o specialty auto spa on edgewood rd sw just on the other side of the tennis courts from oreillys there!

The Viper is a clearcoat. The paint system is PPG.
The substrate is more of a "composite" than the old fiberglas.
Chrysler was one of my clients, worked with Porter and his group at the body/paint tech center when it was in Centerline and later in Auburn Hills. for over 2 decades.
Easy to buff, no real issues to consider.

There is a issue with 2 spots on my Viper, infact the early gens are known for it. Its paint bubbles from under the paint. Chrysler did not let the Fiberglass Dry Long enough before painting so some cars have bubbling issues that only started showing years later only solution is to sand the area down to nothing and let dry for 2 days under heat lamp then re-spray. Other than that the Material seems good.

Tyler-I dont care I just waxed it but its just seting for the next month.

Were the area of concern--where?
The parts to make up the Viper were produced a ways away from the assembly plant.
What we noticed was that on some seams and correction of some areas, the folks didn't allow for the curing as you stated.

I'm mostly retired from doing customer vehicles (obviously I still demand nothing but the best for my personal vehicles). But, for the right price, I could probably do a couple of details. I bounce back and fourth between Marion, Cedar Falls, and East Moline depending on the day (work is crazy). I do mostly higher end vehicles, exotics, and collectables/showcars ONLY. Don't ask me to detail your parents Buick or your work truck, I won't even respond.

I use only some 3M and Meguiars Prefessional line. But, mostly Menzera and Pinnacle

I'm also one of the few in the area that does REAL PAINT CORRECTION...not just cleaning OR detailing

Here's a 50/50 of before and after (before on the left, after on the right)

finally heard back from an old contact at Chrysler's Tech Center.
He said it is not a common problem, but has surfaced from time to time.
They are not sure why it happens but suspect it has to do with not getting some areas of the part completely clean of the release agent used when the molded the parts.
That's about all Dan had to say about it other than refinishing is the only thing he would suggest.

^ That makes sense. The company I represent has had some adhesion issues getting wet paint and even powder or e-coat to stick to some aluminum die-castings because of the strength of the release agent sprayed on the die/tool. Even your 7-10 stage wash/rinse on an automated line won't get it completely off. It's pretty nasty shit.

Granted, this would be fiberglass. However, I would imagine that with fiberglass being a more porous material, the problem would be more severe.

Only thing questionable about that idea is that these types of problems generally surface immediately after the paint process is complete.

What makes more sense to me would be an out-gassing type of root cause.

You said the key thing, about the composite used is porus.
Some release agents migrates down into it during productions, over time, exporsure to heat cycles, it migrates back to the top and causes the paint to release from the substrate.

Yup...Bingo...

As it gasses out, it will need to escape from the solidified film over the composite (the paint). The gasses will build under the film and eventually puncture through. Outgassing is actually a protusion in the paint, and gives the finish a sandpaper type appearance/surface.

Ketchacar, you seem like you've been around manufacturing. Which commdities? I have a feeling we might know ALOT of the same people
