Recently moved to Iowa City from DSM so I figured I'd hop on here. I'm Aaron, I own a couple of things but pretty much I'll be keeping a few projects back in the shop at DSM for now but I've got the Bug and the bike with me at the moment.

Bike is a 2011 (2010 body) Triumph Speed Triple:

Bug is a 1971 std Beetle:

Nice! Those speed triples sound bad ass with exhaust, honestly I don't think any other sport bike can compare.

As for the Beetle, that thing looks like a blast, what all is done to it? Welcome!

Ha, hey Casey and Justin; good to see some familiar names. I moved here because I'm back in school to finish up a few things.

The bike is bone stock and will probably remain that way for awhile (minus a tail tidy, sliders, and a few little things).
The Bug, I bought that thing because everything was trashed on it. The chassis had to be worked over a little, the body is still in crap shape (but usable for now), and the interior isn't... horrible. Everything except the body and chassis I've replaced:
Suspension has been worked over as hard as it can be while keeping the stock length arms, still only running single fox shocks in the rear though
The engine is ground up, Brazil AS41, rejugged and stroked to a 2110cc with a heavy engle cam
Heads and carbs need to be replaced with something a little higher flowing. At the moment it's a shit combo that makes great torque from 2500-4000rpm but the hp starts to die at around 4500rpm with a cam designed for peak power closer to 7x10^3.

But it doesn't matter, it's still fun.

It looks like fun. Where do you take that out to?

If I can get down to Missouri with it, I have a ton of family that way with enough land to make a person sick... Otherwise here in Iowa, it's just light mud flinging on level B roads as it seems most places here it's illegal to offroad. Sucks in the Midwest though, we need a desert around here somewhere.

In 94 Triumph came out with the Speed Triple which was the first of the current 'Naked Sports' bikes. Ducati Monsters and Yamaha FZ8s are a few more in that class as well, but naked bikes in general don't grab a whole lot of attention. Some people don't like the looks, some people don't like the lack of wind protection, the rest of us love the feel. Came close to buying a BMW S1000RR though... There's a bike that has no soul but engineered to produce some of the most amazing numbers while doing things with such ease, it almost makes you sick! It felt like I was riding around a 200hp 600cc bike, flick that sucker around how you will, roll onto the throttle in 3rd and wheelie without trying.

I passed it up though, I passed it up because I rode my Triumph around and it just has heart and soul. The character of the bike is just something else and I love it.

Yea that bimer is the video game version of motorcycles (like the GTR to autos). A purist is not going to get as much joy out of one of those.

I still laugh. It just looks like it was violent inside. Must have been a bitch. I know taking my pickup through it wasn't exactly "smooth" Can't imagine what a tin can with some big tires an stiff suspension felt like.

Have you seen the other angle? Somebody posted it (I can't find it) of me going in that ditch from another angle and it's just awesome. It was actually a very comfortable crash though.

Deimos, you're going to have to refresh my memory, who are you again?

Edit: wait a second... I think I remember you, your name is slipping my memory but I think the last time I saw you, you were driving a 4 door civic, I was at work over on the south side? Shit, I know your face damnit... Hows it been man! :P

They claim they're having another mudcoast this year... Donno if it's true or not but the bug will be ready for it either way. It was down all last year while I redid the suspension on it. Sparkles, I'm surprised how well that damn truck did, especially with those tires.

10:38 is pretty damned sexy as well. I'd never seen the bug go in from that angle before, like skatin on ice!
