i bought another honda...yea ill admit it. its a 1994 civic cx hatch. weighs in at only 2100lbs. came with a stock GSR (b18c1).

mods on the car when i purchased it:

gsr engine
LS trans
lowered on ground control coilovers and koni yellows

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y153/coogrman08/scherrman9.jpg

not sure which direction im going to go with it yet, so ill just start by cleaning things up a bit. some wiring and dirty stuff would be a good start.

ok my 2 cents? sherman needs a daily driver. And not worry about a "fast car"

First the white honda that was built for turbo but no turbo was on it?
then was the rx7 that was hacked together and he got ripped off (new owner found the motor to be blown up)
Now is another Honda with issues yet its near stock AKA >160hp

At this point I think you would almost be better off with a DSM (as it hurts to say that)

If you want another B sherman, my buddy down here just bought a GSR motor for his integra and took out the i believe b18 from it. It was a stock LS motor, needs new rings I believe. I'm sure he'd let it go for a great price. Motor itself is pretty clean.

Doesn't surprise me the rx had a blown motor, nothing about that car seemed to be what Gerrot said it was.

He should have kept the white civic, and he was building it for boost. Not everyone is ballin like you Jesse, he was doing things in steps and never finished the project.

And Dallas is full of crap, the motors fine hes just doing some maintenance. Only thing he said was wrong was clutch issues but that's getting fixed while the motor is out.

JacobS

the car ran perfect before i started tearing the engine and trans out. the trans might have been fucked, but the engine ran great.

i bought a new engine harness and im going to clean things up a bit over winter. and find a GSR trans with LSD to put in.

i have a DD. its a rustbucket piece of shit that burns oil like i drink water. but its reliable.

I was not bringing funds into this, I ment it as if you build it for one thing keep it a project before bringing it out and running down the drag strip and saying theres issues with it yet and so on. I know for my past that if 1 thing is wrong with any of my cars I dont even drive them till its fixed. I see this alot now a days, guys with projects yet they are driving them and they still have fuel leaks, bad valves, low boost, no exhaust, wrong spark plugs, snow tires, broke 3rd gear, leaky head gaskets... on and on.

Leave it in the garage till she runs like it should

I wish him the best in making this honda into what hes allways wanted.

I dont get on honda tech very often i do know they have the best welding and Fab threads around. I have heard from Travis that honda tech can get ugly as well. Its more or less making the car right for you and your goals. This is why I do what I do. its very tempting to stay with what you know. like batwood has mentioned going back to his 3.8 several times.

i stuck with mitsu's for a long time. but i realized there is a point where you get diminishing returns for your financial investments. for me I was at high 11's on the dsm and I realized that to be much faster, I was going to have to put up with lag, tranny issues, revving the piss out of the motor , race gas, and gutting the car to help me. It was hard to start over, you never get your money out of the parts and nothing for labor. kept the talon around until I got the ls1 rx7 running good and then it was a lot easier to let it go

its all about what you like though. if i was going to stick around 350whp, the dsm's can be a great street car that that level.

i do like these honda project threads. just like to dish out crap for fun though

slow ride
11-11-2011, 10:11 PM
Yea nothing wrong with a clean one, but I can's stand a FWD car on street tires. Build a s2000 or something :) I had a FWD DSM way back in say 95'-96'. Had fun with it and sold it asap to get some AWD traction. Went RWD with the vette and found it to be the most fun. Problem is at certian power levels it seems you need to go back to awd to put the power down on street tires. Gears keep on turning im my head.

well when jacobs white car was loud as fuck and had the LS in it, even tho hes says it was slow and he hated it, it was far from stock considering he put bus lengths on my car on the highway.... So even with it bein an LS, it was WAY better than stock.

yup, it was a turd. its funny how my built motor LS only made 144 on motor, and my stock GSR from teh factory made 160.

civicex_1134
11-13-2011, 12:01 PM
No, jesse said "runs better/faster than a stock honda" He had one, then he sold it..... not my issue. Lets all hope he actually finishes this one. Oh, and that GSR does not make nowhere near 160 to the wheels.... Ur built LS made 144 and 122 to the wheels and made power to 8k, if u cant see the beauty in that then i dont know what to tell you cuz eveyone at the dyno loved it and was amazed at the numbers. U also had stock cams in it..... So if u had to ask me, yes that LS surprized me.... NO it wasnt fast, but it still had impressive numbers for what it was

You do realize that most of the "V8 guys" started off with 4 cyl rides right? Hell I even have a 4 cyl mustang of all things, notorious for being the slowest cars on the road, lucky for me most guys have not heard of Ford's old turbo program. What most guys here are getting at is that they really just want to see someone step up with one of these rides and get it done. On the cruise night I happened to see a really nice Honda done up right and he got alot of respect, and I am not ashamed to say that yes his car is faster than my V8 Mustang. I really do enjoy seeing the 4 cylinder cars tearing up.

ran into a stroke of luck! the engine had ARP headstuds and ARP rodbolts already! could also see a brand new oil and water pump along with a reusable Hondata intake manifold gasket. Seemed to be some pretty distinctive cross-etching on the cylinder walls.

so i put the new headgasket on and reassembled it. Thats right folks, i pulled the engine for NOTHING haha. o well, at least now i know what im working with. with that out of the way i turned to that nasty engine bay. dont mind the green, itll get painted someday. just not this year.

I think the victorX manifolds like to see a lot more boost to have a bigger power gain..... but if hes planning on doin more boost later on then id say victorX would be ok. victor x is the big one. big plenum with shorter runners.
performer x has a smaller plenum and longer smaller runners. its junk IMO.

unfortunately both of them are cast alum which means the insides are rough and that slows down air flow. thats why i went with a sheet metal style. worth the extra money i think

True, sheet metal styles are way badass..... I was just tryin to think cuz Kyle had a victorX on his stock B16 on 10lbs and talkin to him he says he wishes hed bought sumthin different. I hear half of OBX is shit but some stuff is okay, but I've looked into the OBX LSD for civics, and they seem to be a hit or miss. If i remember correctly from a thread on d-series, there's something you can modify and it'll make them pretty much undeniably as good as a quiafe for example. I'm too lazy/dont care enough to dig up the thread now.

That OBX LSD has held through some abuse already. I did not open it to inspect it when I had the transmission apart last summer, but the diff did not feel loose at the axle splines, which is where you normally feel the wear. It has held 500+whp and has gone multiple low 11/high 10 passes.

I think I've narrowed it down to my aluminum lug nuts. Supposedly if you over tighten them they won't ever tighten down correctly again. Me and dallas had a hard time trying to get them off back in october, so I'm pretty sure that's what caused this. Took the fender off tonight and looks like everything is good to go except a fender. I still think it was my error though. I tightened them down earlier that day, but god damn, I should have known. Lesson learned I guess...

my car officially burns corn!

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y153/coogrman08/jacob1-2.jpg

Ran into a few problems on the dyno. My IAT sensor had a bad ground, so that needed to get fixed. Also, during one of the pulls, the oil return line where it comes off the turbo somehow came loose and started leaking. So we got that fixed. The the car would go lean after 7000 rpm. We think thats either a bad pump or a bad regulator. Also figured out my speed sensors broke haha

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y153/coogrman08/jacob2-1.jpg

All in all, we froze our asses off, and the car made 300whp and 233tq @7000rpm with only 10psi. set the rev limiter at 7000 until i can get the fuel issue fixed.

AutoMods

they need to get their shit straight. if they call it e85 it needs to be within a couple percent of 85. all the money spent on the "e85" promoting to the general public, that would be wasted switching to e70 now. most non-car people are already confused about the fuel.

The cash register lady at the north liberty kum and go was telling me how she puts e85 in her truck because its cheaper. and she had just a non-flex fuel 1997 pickup. I didn't tell her that it was a dumb idea on a non-flex fuel truck with no tune and that her loss in gas mileage will cancel out her savings. i can't imagine her truck ran right with e85 in it. I wonder if she told other customers to use that fuel.

And i wonder how many other people do that to "save money"

Jappbox

When I did the Math on my Van, it needed to be .60 Cents or higher price diff from E85 to Normal cheap gas in order for it to be "worth it" in fact that was just breaking even. if its about .80-$1.00 diff then E85 would save you money. Since its only .20 Cents right now, its a waste of time and money.

Not bad numbers. How does it do for rolling burnouts? What size injectors are you running for e70?

We went and did a pull on dixon rd after unstrapping from the dyno. First gear is useless, 2nd kind of work, and third it pulls hard. But it still puts you in the seat no matter what do to the lsd. I love it. Its currently running FIC 1100cc injectors

Also, it hit 330whp when we took it above 7000rpm, so its got more in it at 10psi.

^ that'd be a good run for sure.
brad's old civic at 303whp weighed more like 2300-2400lb and just barely lost to a 05-06 600rr

you'd be surprised - a little civic at 300+whp is in the 600cc territory for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if it took down my zzr, considering it's just a re-issue of an 02 zx6r

I was bluffing anyway haha. I doubt they let bikes run cars at the track.

I think you'd have a better chance at a 600 on the street... Unless your set up and running slicks. A lot of people underestimate them.

Yea when did jacob pack on the pounds? I suggested we play around because I think it would be a close race if done from a roll. From a dig I dont think either of us have enough practice to know what would happen.

Ever since i got that car put together, it seemed to smoke quite a bit. I figured it was the stock pcv system, but after some testing that wasnt the cause. I then took the manifold/turbo/downpipe off the car. The manifold was bone dry, so my next task was to check out the turbo. I then found out the exhaust wheel was covered in oil, leading me to believe that the return line was not sufficient. Common problem with mini-ram manifolds on hondas....go figure. So after doing some research, i found out that AN fittings wouldnt work, and my moroso oil pan, was not ideal with the location on the return bung.

So i had ryan weld in a new bung, thanks ryan!!!
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y153/coogrman08/jacob36.jpg

this is the routing of my new return line, 45 degree barb fitting into a straight barb fitting on the oil pan. and because of some flaming on facebook ill say this, I WILL NOT BE USING THE HOSE IN THE PICTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y153/coogrman08/jacob35.jpg

not much of an update, Central Imports is moving their dyno to a new shop, so im waiting for that to get back up and running. And im looking for someone to weld my valve cover, need a couple fittings welded on for my catch can setup.

o, i also bought a .74cent freeze plug...whoopee!!

Make sure you have enough blow by ventilation or that will cause poor draining also.

Staying up tell 1am installing a fuel pump and working out the issues sucked then on top of it all it ran like shit at the track lol.. Next should be different.

JacobS

From what I've read, 2 -10 lines off the valve cover should be enough. Well see. It'll either work, or blow out another oil pan gasket

JacobS
12-10-2012, 09:23 PM
luckily i didnt take any pictures of my dumbassness....haha

but the low down of it was, 45 degree AN fitting coming out towards the front of the car, then the line wrapping around the intercooler piping, going into a 90 degree fitting in the oil pan.

stupid. i realize this.
