testing waters: 1967 Sunbeam Alpine

been thinking a lot about it, and decided i was going to see if there's any interest in my Sunbeam. it'd be a great project, but i came to the conclusion that if this car weren't left to me, i never would have owned one- and there are other projects i would rather work on. so here goes:

the car is a '67 Sunbeam Alpine(4cyl). it has a 4 spd manual trans(pretty sure it doesnt have the overdrive trans, i'll check tomorrow). car is dark forest green with a black interior. has a black removable hard top, and soft cover that goes over a folding convertible top. has the wire wheels with real knockoffs.

the bad news- i've never driven the car. it's been sitting in storage under a cover(out of the elements) for almost 15 years. the car apparently ran when they parked it, but had a bad oil leak. i would assume it'd probably just be best to get a gasket kit for the whole engine.it also needs the brakes completely redone(nothing when you hit the pedal). i would also assume the entire fuel system should be gone through as well- normal stuff for a car thats sat so long.

the good news- pretty much everything is there, and it comes with a couple boxes of extra parts(i remember it has some brand new weather stripping to install, i can check the other boxes). i always thought the car was original and rust free, but i found a folder that had a ton of receipts from the car, and the body and paint work were done professionally in the early 90's. car hasnt been out in the weather since. also has a stainless exhaust on it that still looks brand new. the tires even hold air still and arent dry-rotted.

i'm not really sure what to ask for the car. it's hard to find a car that's in similar condition (solid body/paint, needing mechanical work) most are in the opposite shape. they are kindof rare; you don't see many of them around. it's a project, but pretty much all (relatively) easy mechanical work. if anyone is interested, PM me and we can talk about prices. can also email me at reverendangerer@gmail.com.

the only trades i'd be interested in would be an old hot rod project; something in the '45-'55-ish years. i'm pretty open to make/models; just looking for a bodystyle that grabs me. not interested in trucks.

I like what you've done with the place! Looks great!

I haven't gotten it back together yet. I sold the engine and transmission and bought a 64 Ford Galaxie with big plans for it. Then I bought a new house because of my second child being born so it went bye bye to free up a space in the garage and some of my time. I am currently looking for engine and transmission options for it. I am not sure I want to go back to the LS1. I am looking into the new Ford 5.0 as well as some small diesel engines. But, we'll see. My goal is to focus more on road course racing and the SCCA SOLO II stuff. I have been having a blast with it using my father-in-law's 06 Mustang. So I might just grab an aluminum 5.3 and another T56 just to be able to run it at those events. But again, we'll see.

same thing as with the 4G63; modern 4cyl's are just a little too big for those old cars. sucks; i really did consider it for a while; just couldnt bring myself to cut up such a clean car.

i'll buy the driveshaft i need built, but really, thats the last big thing i "need" to buy for the truck. i'm buying a clean bed for it this weekend; K's acres got in a clean '87 Ram50 in with a blown motor i believe. i actually contemplated offering to buy the whole thing, but it's still got rot in the rockers, and the frame looks a lot worse off than mine. the exciting thing for me was that the truck is an auto, and i measured the trans tunnel, and its MUCH wider than the manual trans tunnel. it might need to be raised a little to clear a T56, but not widened(i dont think).

actually, i've been keeping an eye on the northern california craigslist. my cousin is living with my mom out there right now, and is looking to buy a cheap car to drive around. i told him if he could find a clean 2wd/auto Mighty Max or Ram 50, and not destroy it, i would pay for a chunk of it if he'd bring it back to me later in the year. it'd be nice to have all my stuff ironed out, and have a nice clean shell to swap all my stuff over to.
