Are you talking 10.5 tire or 10.5 index? The 10.5 index should be self explanatory.

if your talking 10.5 tire see the following http://iowaautoforums.com/showthread.php?13811-CFR-10.5-Videos-Oct-8th...Congrats-to-Allgo

5.50ish give or take a few tenths.

I think 5.50 consistantly (see: Puckett) can win a few events.

That being said though, the class has gotten ridiculous where you need to be 5.30's to even compete.

This weekend should see some faster times then that I would think with the air and temps..I m talking about scottys car..

I would say if you car run a consistant 5.30-5-40 you could be compettative as of this year! The wick will get turned up every year though. If you have a 5.70 car you might make it a round or two!

thats why you be like me and just never finish since you about get it buttoned up then you see what someone just did and realise you have to do alot more work just to go loose haha man I suck

naah, Im lucky to break into the 5.2x's !!! It okay though, you can pretty much consider me a tenth slower than my ET shows because I cant cut a good light anymore LOL

I can't see times getting as low as some of the big tracks around the country due to track prep. You guys think the local tracks can hold much more car on a 10.5 tire even if more power was made?

I think its possible to run ALOT faster times than we are right now with the same track prep.. I've seen Wellenkamp run a 5.0 ET the same day as we were blowing tires off, and his car is legal for our class with the wheelie bars off. I've 60' pretty dam good at cedar falls and eddyville without pushing it all the way.

I think 4.90s is deffinentaly possible with a car set up right.. much quicker then that IDK i guess time will tell!

Never said they wouldn't get faster, just not as fast as the big tracks that spray them the entire track, etc.

That could be a possibility.. I have yet to be limited by the track surfaces around here, I would like to think some of the big dogs that turning in killer ET's down south and around the big cities have a advantage because of the tracks, but Im not 100% convinced yet.

no offense to anyone running 10.5 in anyway way what so ever cuz I like everone I have met doing it but.... I think the times compared to the big tracks are off because most of the cars are under power compared to the big big names. Those guy are making on motor what some local cars are on kill. I think some local guys have the brains and potential but im not sure if they have the money and I wont go any further on that cuz I dont want to offened. These tracks hook just fine in my eyes to me the deciding factor on that was when I watched that little duster hang the wheels running a 315 radial with a superstock spring and a snubber with nothing else. Just my 2cents which arent worth shit haha

oh and I forgot 4 grand in traction control stuff

c_mart_28
10-14-2011, 11:21 AM
Keep in mind also some of those tracks are commonly into the -DA range which can play a part. Like was mentioned above though, some of those guys are combining some pretty advanced traction control systems with gobs of hp.

True da is massive and makes sense it will limit the area but i meant more on pure traction level.

what are you guys using for traction control? and what are you guys running for engine combinations? if you all dont mind me asking or if you dont mind sharing.thanks

My car is not a 10.5 class car. Not even close.

That said, I'll be running a traction control system that is part of my standalone EMS from proEFI. Mine is primarily for the street, but it has proven to be very effective at the track for the high HP guys. Paul Majors for example is something like 4.6x Corvette that uses the same pro128 ecu that I'll be using and he's had great luck with it. It has various ways it can monitor wheel spin but what it does is just provide a millisecond-long cut in power to allow the tires to catch up.

There are lots of other options too but the proEFI route is the only one I'm familiar with.

ProEFI is awesome, Great for e85 guys using the Flex fuel sensor. Only thing better is the Motec but even more than proefi (the orignal programmer for AEM EMS V1 is the creater of ProEFI) I was thinking about switching to it for my Viper but Chris Moore said its 5k +sensors So my old school AEM works just fine.

10-15-2011, 12:10 PM
Yeah, its a bit pricey..I purchased a good bit of the sensors too but, like you said, the one I'm most anxious to employ is the flex fuel jobber. Having been in the situation where e85 was not available but greatly needed is no fun.

And back on topic, I'm also anxious to run the traction control. Wheelspin on my car is largely controllable due to the powerband being pretty predictable but to be able to go WOT in 1st and 2nd will be new to my car on the streets. I don't spin much at the track if I hook well (~1.43 60') but I do have the occasional, unexplainable 1.5x 60' that I'm hoping the traction control will remedy. I don't anticipate it making me 60' any better on a clean launch but I hope it will help me be a bit more consistant. My car is such a heat creating and holding machine that in a given track visit, I just don't have enough time or ice or patience for blown passes.

somewhat related; i was talking to Scotty about my plans for my Duster, and it turns out one of the big ones won't be legal for the 10.5 class around here. looks like i wont ever get to run in one of those. oh well.

what are the rules for the 10.5 tire class? and are there going to be any changes? i would hate to build this car and find out i cant run in this class. thanks

I wouldnt expect any big rule changes.. Christian is really good about that, I would say with 99.9% confidence if your car fits the current rules it will be legal next year. The only talk I think he has entertained is allowing certain aftermarket front suspension that currently isnt legal. and maybe some minimum weight requirements if scales can be become available. He should chime in here and is more than willing to talk with you on the phone or internet about the class.

I hope there isnt minimum weights ive spent alot of money slimming my car down!

Scott
10-18-2011, 01:24 PM
yeah its a tough one.. Im one of the lightest cars in the class I believe and Im right at 3000 now, I would like to remove some weight but it would suck to remove it then have to add it back in lead! looking at some of the big dog organization rules a SBF nitrous car in 28x10.5 vs 275 type class the min weight is around 2650-2700 race ready!! My car would either be really ugly or really expensive to get that light. I think by coincidence the weights and power of the cars in the class match up pretty good right now

K-ville
10-18-2011, 01:28 PM
yeah i wont be down to 2650 by anymeans but it would suck to have to get it back to 3000 or 3200 im just copying a few cars i know that are willing to show me how there setup and at 2650 i dont know how it would ever hook haha

you still gotta make a good pass before traction controls can realy work like they need to haha from what i have seen most the cars running times like the front runners here and faster are all 3000 pound cars

yeah thats kinda debatable too, I havent messed with TC at all but I do know the sacred time based rev limiter on the 7531 box does need good data to overlay for the "dots" but there are much more sophisticated "inertia" for lack of a better word based traction controls too, and ones that use input from G sensors and wheel/driveshaft sensors. So many ways to get the job done including my favorite way, seat of the pants and timeslips! with progressive controllers on 2 stages of nitrous and launch timing retard its a piece of cake to control the power on my car.. not that it really needs it, car barely makes any power anyway

yeah the stuff im around but have no idea what so ever how to use is all wheel speed and driveshaft speed control style but its all on real race cars like promod and whatnot.. i dont know anything about it really other than crude knowledge of how it works but i want to learn for sure. and the comment about your car not making power is a good one you should be a commedian!

yeah I hear ya, I havent messed with traction control yet.. Would love to give it a try though! I guess I should re-word that, my car doesnt make much power compared to the competition, I've been needing more power all year when everyone else is trying to tone it down and make clean passes.. catch 22
