View Full Version : Finally made it to the dyno. A few questions...

I got the Cobra done and had a dyno appointment last night.

I made it to highway 100 and the s/c belt decided to come apart and kicked off two ribs. (10 rib was now an 8 rib.)

Ended up driving the car out still seeing as I couldn't find any problems and it ran fine at idle.

Made a dyno pull up to 5100 rpms or so when the belt started moving again. I'm pretty sure it just has a weak tensioner. Its fine until high rpms.

Anyways, it made 454whp at 5200-ish rpms with no tune. (rev limiter set at 6k rpms for some reason). 497 wtq.

I'll post the dyno chart in a little bit.

My main question is:
There was oil in the intake and in the throttle body. If it sits for a little bit, it smokes out the exhaust and the filter. When I got the car, it had what looked like an oil seperator in between two large vacuum lines laying under the hood. It wasn't hooked up to anything though and I'm not sure where it was.
Its almost like it needs a catch can or something and its just getting oil in the intake through a PCV line or something.
Anybody seen this before?!
I need to fix that and do the cooling mod to the drivers side head. Plan on a tuner and some other toys when I get back from Vegas.

Just wanted some base numbers... guess I can't complain too much about 450whp at 5k rpms. Torque jumped up to 500-ish from 3500rpms on I think.

Common problem on boosted cars, I would start with a catch can setup and see if your goes away.

Im not sure why there would be a 10 rib kit on it. you dont need it. check the idler bearings.
do you know what kind of tune is in it now? is it a tuner(hand held) or a chip did you check the ecu?
I dont know why it would have a rev limit on it at 6k unless you maxed some thing out like injectors, pumps, maf.
yea, the oil issue is a normal problem. most guys just get a catch can. I have one on my car and it catches a lot of oil.

oo do you have a aux idler on it?

I got the belt already. 2 actually... just in case.
Waiting on a tensioner. It looks like its just kicking the belt ahead and then grinding it up when it rubs the edge of the pulley or inside of the tensioner.

I'll have to look into a catch can. Previous owner must have stolen whatever WAS hooked up on it before.

Yeah, its got the extra idler, as far as I know. Has about 300* of belt wrap around the s/c pulley.

I'm not real familiar with these motors. All I've done is the newer front mount, cutouts, and CAT delete.

As for tune, there was a tuner with it, but the owner must have kept it.
I'm probably getting an SCT from Lethal Performance so I can get a Lund tune and see what it can actually make for power.
Probably getting a 2-step/wot box also.

Can you post a pick of the engine, I would not mind seeing what else is all on there and that 10 rib kit.
yea, the lund tune with lethal will work well. the 2sets are crazy on these cars.
Do you have a irs brace?

Catch can or one of these from PCV to back of intake work great.

Yeah, its got the IRS brace, frame connectors... etc. Looks like everything Steeda made it has. lol.
I'll get an engine pic up tomorrow.

Dyno pull video:

I'd love to have somebody that knows these cars take a peek at it.

I guess I need help embedding... haha.

Looks to be Black Widow. Says super flow at bottom dyno graph. Numbers are Dyno Jet comparisons?

Yeah, we went to Black Widow.
They didn't even charge me for the 1 pull I did.
Super nice guys... I love me some Powerstrokes!

Supposed to be close to dyno jet numbers.
The graph was the corrected numbers too.

So... I found out what my seperator was.

I'm pretty sure the previous owner bought nearly everything Steeda sold. Lol.
I'd like to know why the hell the guy unhooked it and just left it under the hood though....

18 year old kid bought and installed this motor. I'm kinda nervous. Alternator pulley nut flew off the other day... he spent $8k on a motor, but never did the cooling mod...
I'm going to have the oil sent to blackstone just to be sure.

Yes they said they changed it so that was close to a Dyno Jet

My Cobra doesn't have a catch can setup.

Haven't had any need just yet. I'm sure its nearly inevitable though..
