Well to start off this thing, I got my Mosin about 4 years ago. I researched alot and found a place out of Arizona selling Ex Sniper variants, the "Ex snipers" are Mosin's that the Russian Government stripped of their optics and scope mounts because of the kind of work it would take to resight in or maintain such a large amount of sniper rifles. Mosin sniper versions are the ones to get because they actually shoot where you aim!

When I got mine I discovered it was a 1942, this increases rarity because this was the height of the German invasion into Soviet Russia in fact the Izhevsk factory and city in which it was named after were almost taken in the invasion increasing rarity. My goal with this rifle is to somewhat modernize it without hacking it to bits to acheive that goal. This is how the rifle looked when I got it.

And the bayonet, Russian bayonets were to remain on the rifle at all times this is why most versions shoot to the left unless the bayonet is on. Snipers didnt have this problem.

Recently I started building it as I have wanted. I started looking for a scope mount that didn't suck ass (ATI's crappy ass mount) and ended up finding the scout mount. This mount replaces the rear sight and is direct bolt in, it also had multiple adjustment screws best part is it only cost $10.00.

From there I needed a scope but as it was a mount based farther forward I needed a long eye scope so I went with an NCStar 4x32 and I am very happy with the results.

My next modification will be a Boyds' stock, the Russian stock is okay but I need something more modern so I can mount a bipod on it.
My next rifle is a Remington 788, they were made as an entry rifle in the Remington line. They were mad up to 6mm and smaller, I lucked out and got the .222 Win model. The stock has been sanded and refinished and the scope is a Universal 4x32 (Junk). I hope to work it into a fairly accurate budget build.

The 788's main issue is there are NO parts and the handle is prone to breaking off the bolt because unlike the model 700's handle being high temp brazed on the 788's is low temp brazed. It also has a different type of lug setup from the 700 but ideally the 788 is a cheaper manufactured version of the 700.
