Figured I would make an actual build thread for my latest car, as seen in my intro thread

Been here in IA for 3 weeks now and I love this place, job is awesome, and the money is good, bringing the car down after the 4th, should be done for the most part, will have to paint the hood, spoiler and stuff sometime though

Before I got it, yeah it was F'ed

Cool, any motor work aside from the exhaust?

not yet, Ive had so many modded LS1's i figured I would leave this one alone for awhile and build the trans, throw a 12 bolt in it. If it blows it will be getting a 14:1 347ci, afr 225s, fast 102 and a nice cam though.

Fast 102 is way too big for a 347...and 14:1?!?!? Are you high??

do you have any of your old cars still from this thread http://iowaautoforums.com/showthread.php?13265-New-from-Spencer-LOTS-of-PICS&p=163718#post163718 ?

Welcome!

a 102 is in no way too big for a 347
I am going to be around 13.6:1, have to get custom slugs to get any higher than that and I dont want to spend the extra cash. I would ideally like to be at around 14.2, but I will alter the cam timing to keep dynamic compression above 10.5:1

I dont have any of my old cars, I only keep one at a time.

I managed to put in about 9 hours on the car today, installed the headers, which BTW are the best fitting I have ever used. Intalled everything underhood, fixed teh seat that was bent, cleaned up the interior and put the doors together, and assembled the front end. I have to pick up a radiator hose next weekend and get plates, gonna put a few miles on it

why not forced induction or nitrous?

How do you figure a 102 isn't too big? It was designed for the 427 ls7....stock cubes will lose a lot of low end torque with anything over a 90 or 92...but I guess that's just from what I've seen....

I think with a CR like that low end might not be the concern as much as top end power. I actually saw a few comparisons of 102s vs 92s and the 102 with any for of aggressive head cam setup seemed to lose barely any compared to what it picked up on the big end. I know this because I didn't believe it either and was concerend about my power 3500 and up. And to think just a few years ago people said 90s were too big for stock cube ls1s and to just get 78s.

forced induction with stock manifold and stock head, stock compression, stock cam will out dyno that fast intake / afr head setup in both horsepower and crush it in torque. as far as cost, maybe equal if you know how to weld. my turbo cost less then that fast manifold alone.

Yeah, ive never had an all out motor combo though. Ive had a turbo LSx, procharged LSx, H/C car with nitrous, cam only with nitrous, YSi'd LTx, etc. I also have built 3 blower setups from scratch and 4 turbo setups, just tired of the fab work really.

Anyway:
its REALLY dirty, hasnt been buffed yet, and dont mind the front fenders, they are getting replaced since I fucked up the paint. Hood spoiler and exhaust should be here this week, I drove it around the yard for a few min yesterday. Took me 4 hours to get the seats bent back and clean the glass out of the carpet!

And yes I did get the headlights straightened out more, Lots of small things to do yet but its gonna be driveable next weekend!

Sorry, I only had my phone with so pics are poor

Got some new pics today since I had the day off. so heres the updates to this thread until I get it lowered and the hood painted. New rear tires are 295/45-18, tail panel and spoiler are black plasti-dip. Did the hose mod in the rear but it still isnt low enough, so im going to pull all the springs and knock some off in the future, probably the same time the stall and a set of 3.73s go in

So Ive got about 2500 miles on the car now, still havent lowered it or painted anything else

Last month I went to the track and ran a 14.02@102, it was horrible! 2.73s stock stall and a 28.5" tire are not good together, crossed the line at 5400 in 2nd gear.

Couple weeks ago I installed 4.10 gears which are just awesome. with the tall tire they are a blast to drive around town and stuff

This last weekend I switched to E85 and since I had the day off today I got most of the tuning done with that. Makes good power now with 29* of timing vs the 17-18* of stock. Traction in 1st is lacking, will be getting some 15x10s and big drag radials once the stall goes in or it will be worthless!

AutoMods
10-05-2011, 06:25 PM
29* seems like a lot. u running extra for e85?

SLVR7
10-05-2011, 06:32 PM
My car likes timing on e85 too. 16* at 20 psi on 93 pump on e85 at 23 psi 22.5* and still no knock. A few 30psi pulls at 23* didn't knock either, but I'm not going to push it to far.

Grr
10-05-2011, 08:10 PM
every LSx Ive had made the most power at 27-29*, and with no worry of knock, might as well go right for it. Upgraded to 1 bar SD, so its easy as pie. Picked up a 100mm lid that should be here in a couple days so I can get rid of the stock lid and crappy maf. Only getting 90kpa so theres alot of restriction there
