A kid I work with has a fairly decent looking camaro (LT1 body style) only problem is it has the weak ass 3.4. Well it took a massive shit the other day after work and now he wants to put an LS1 or LT1 in it. I told him the best course of action would be to buy a wrecked one, I tell him it'd be easier to find a new car with either engine but he is sold on punishing himself. Either way I just wanted some thoughts as I have been charged with finding the donor car for this whole project.

Depends on the budget. To be realistic, the price of 4th gens that are already sporting a V8 are coming down. Unless he's going to do everything himself and has a good mechanical ability, he's probably going to spend just as much swapping it then if he'd just sell his and buy a v8. I'd vote to throw a blower or turbo on the v6. It'd be different. There's a new guy on the forum that has a pretty sick v6 F Body.

I'm trying to convince him to do maybe like a gtp sort of setup or something like that. I think the v8 option is a little to far for his capabilities. I'd probably end up doing it all.

That's what I was thinking. Get a blower off a GTP or something and swap it.

You would need to put in 3.8 to swap a m90 off a L67 on plus it wouldnt clear the cowl. You'd probably need to look at what the aussie guys do with a rwd l67. Its been done before but it'd be a hell of a lot better/easier to swap in a LT1 or Ls1 or just buy a car that already has one

Plus you'd need L67 heads/lim/etc. Its kinda pointless unless it already had a good 3800 motor already in it.
Your best bet would be to get a aussie M90 like this so the tb isnt buried way back into the cowl (dont pay attention to the snout in the pic its a YT one)

Honestly I think he bought the wrong car for performance at all. Even a 3800 camaro would have had more he could have done...

from what i understand people are putting some pretty good numbers out of the 3.4 when they are beefed up tell him to research it.

He seems kinda car retarded, he couldn't even figure out there was a problem when he blew the head gasket. I really don't want to put in the time doing anything to it for him to go and fuck it all up. I do know a kid with a supercharged 3.8 camaro and it's decent but he actually knows his shit.

Tell him he'll just end up dumping a shit ton of money into something not worth it. He'll have to upgrade damn near everything as it sits.
This kid from Marion I talk to DAILY is trying to do the same thing w/ a firebird. I told him right off, not worth it, but he is attempting it anyway with almost zero knowledge of cars, down to basic oil changes.

I told him he has the worst possible situation to make any sort of performance. A "shituation" if you will, I told him to throw another 3.4 in it and look for a v8 camaro/firebird. I didn't really want to do all the work anyway.
