thanks man..yea headers on their own will definatly help, but the stall convertor is where it really is....all the ls1 guys say this is hands down the best mod for a a/t car.....its a good healthy stall too, im anxious to get the goodies installed and rip her down the street!

i researched this stall verter before buying it...everyone has their own reasons for different stall, and different companies...some have bad luck, while others swear by them. tci is a reputable company, and i havent seen that man bad remarks for them, vs other companies like yank, or others, but yea im gonna get a tune by frost for it...

The only difference in mods between my two old camaros was the 02 had the ls6 intake and a stall and it felt way way faster then my 99 did. Think this should put you in the 12s, have you ever raced it before?

Luminatorz34
03-15-2011, 09:48 AM
i raced it one time...got 4 passes out of it, and literally couldnt get under 14 sec...of course it didnt help i was on near bald street tires

Steve get Heads and Cam! that will def wake that LS1 up! A MS4 and some nice set of Patriot heads along with a LS6 intake should put you well into the 4XXrwhp range.

Actually there is a large thread on tech discrediting tci's ls1 converters, they broke them down and found they are only a cavalier converter beefed up and welded to a larger mounting plate...I thought the same thing when I bought a fuddle converter, and before I knew it I was trying to race rob on 100 and it wouldn't come out of 1st gear, then when I got home it would only go 20mph slipping, with black fluid....hopefully you have better luck! You'll love the 3500 though, but soon enough you'll wanna go bigger haha

i dont know bout heads just right now...i know id love to get a cam, but ill need atleast a ls6 intake for it, might have to get into a fast intake mani also...but thatll be a bit down the road

i was working on my camaro yesterday when i got the phone call from my mom saying my cat died.....but today i was just sitting around moping, and thinking about my cat, that i needed to do something to get my mind off of him. so finished my header install....went pretty easy, headers went in without a hick up at all....haha the hardest part was getting in there to plug in my front o2 sensors...but heres some pics, my computer is being retarded with the video of its startup....so ill post vid later

lol i think it sounds like shit in the videos. and it has a old farm truck sound at idle...when you give it gas to about 1k it smooths right out and it sounds really good actually...i took it out for a spin on the highway and gave it hell, it was soooo loud i couldnt even think, it was rattling everything in the car....but that was wfo headers, waiting to get my band clamps sent here so i can hook up my y pipe as texas speed only sent thosse gay ass muffler clamp type clamps. im gonna send out the ecu here pretty soon to reprogram it for the headers, as right now it just doesnt have what it used to up top which is partially to blame for the headers and the fact that egr isnt hooked up and it pulls timing at wot...

gay ass clamp i got with the y pipe

doesn't have what it used to up to? Headers shouldn't cause that. Plenty of people do long tubes without a tune and are fine, mine included. Did you have new spark plugs shipped to you, I know when I ordered mine a few came cracked.

Luminatorz34
03-19-2011, 08:01 PM
nah left my plugs in it, as they only had about 10k on them...i inspected and gapped them all again....it just doesnt seem like it has all the top end it used too...i did delete air and egr, and havent had them tuned out yet...idk maybe i was just thinking it didnt have what it used to up top due to the insane loudness of the car

Luminatorz34
03-19-2011, 08:46 PM
yea i know alot odf the the ls guys dont tune, but i dont know why it would seem to go slower in my particular situation....it was the first time ive driven it since october, so idk if i just had high hopes or what..but i think ill get it tuned and then see what it does

AutoMods
03-19-2011, 10:23 PM
i'm not a fan of mail order tunes. just seems hard to guess what a car needs based off other cars with similar mods. too many variables. you have to log the car and tune according to what you've logged

FiFdYnUtZ
03-20-2011, 06:09 PM
honestly, i think at your power level if you use good fluid and a GOOD trans cooler along with a solid tune, you should be okay...key note would be the tune, the pwm and lockup speeds/pressures will make all the difference...

Luminatorz34
03-20-2011, 08:29 PM
yea i was looking at a huge b&m cooler, and hook it up in series with the factory cooler

Can you take the converter back? I wouldnt put that junk in my car if I where you. They are known to fail and destroy your transmission, why risk it you know.
Id either sell it or see if you can take it back or if they do sell Vig Converters see if they will swap and just pay the difference.

FiFdYnUtZ
03-21-2011, 08:55 AM
Vig, yank, ptc, circle d, and performabult or flt are what I would be looking into, they are pricey but worth it, I shelled my stock trans with a fuddle way back when..

Luminatorz34
03-21-2011, 09:42 AM
i called them, and they wont take it back, as they said they have no real way of knowing i installed it....so ill just sell it out right

Luminatorz34
03-23-2011, 05:24 PM
i got my band clamps in today, so i went ahead and put the y pipe in...went in like a glove, and you can tell its made for the car...i was surprised at the fitment. i was really worried after i put the headers in and how loud they were, when i loved the way my car sounded with manifolds, cats and my cut out....putting the y pipe in quieted it down a ton, and it sounds perfect in my opinion...cutout closed you can tell its a tad louder, but open it sound just beautiful. im happy with the car all over again...

btw i saw a circle D converter on tech for 350 brand new..its a 2600 stall but you could send it in and have it re-stalled and custom spec'd for a 100 bux id think..

Luminatorz34
03-27-2011, 07:15 PM
hey thanks for letting me know about that. disregard my pm about the link i found it and contacted the seller.also contacted circle d about re stalling it. i dont know what kind of custom specs to ask for, but i do know id like a 3000-3500 rpm stall somewhere in that area.

if i can get this stall convertor, id most definatly show up for the shoot out...i just dont wanna be that 1 f body guy that cant break 14's lmao

Stutz
03-27-2011, 07:28 PM
We can race our gtps instead and see which ones breaks the trans first! Are you going to the big gtp meet thing at cfr that gpf.net is putting on?

Luminatorz34
03-27-2011, 07:41 PM
i was gonna goto that gtp meet up. then i decided i really could care less...i got the gtp thinking i was gonna mod it and do this and that to it, then it hit me, its just a nice dd for me now

Stutz
03-27-2011, 07:46 PM
lol i finally learned that. When i had camaros before i still always bought shit for gtps instead of modding the camaros more.

Luminatorz34
03-27-2011, 07:56 PM
lol yea, i guess the kid in me still wanted to mod the gtp. but the 25 year old side of me says its a grand prix, mod the camaro now that its not my dd, and thats what im doing. ill continue to mod it till i find a nice 05/6 gto

FiFdYnUtZ
03-27-2011, 09:22 PM
just tell circle d your car's specs (gear ratio, mods, tire size, etc) and/or what you intend to do with it, and they will set you up with a STR ratio and stall speed that will work best..

Luminatorz34
03-29-2011, 12:19 AM
well the guy sold the convertor...and circle d emailed me back and said they couldnt re stall that convertor anyways. its a 12 inch diameter, and the 3-3500 rpm stalls are a 10 inch converter...oh well

03-29-2011, 09:57 AM

Granted I'm running a 3rd gen F-body and using a TH350(w/transmission cooler) with a B&M 3000 stall converter in mine and have had 0 issues with it. Idk if theres a big difference between the 4th gen Auto Transmissions and the older ones. But if I were you, just go with a reputable company and get what you like. Run anything necessary to keep it well maintained just like how I spent an extra $70-$80 on getting a decent transmission cooler. Just keep it simple.

Luminatorz34
04-02-2011, 01:04 AM
some info i found out
ptc of texas:
I cut open and repair all makes of converters to include Hughes, BTE, TCI, Neal Chance, B&M and countless others. Hughes top of the line converters are excellent units and very seldom need any repair but they are pricey. I build the same converter, same work done, handling the same HP range, for allot less money

needless to say i bit the bullet and purchased this torque converter...i talked to them on the phone today and they were beyond helpful, told me its a great choice for the way my car is set up now, and will be better complimented with a cam which i was planning on doing anyways....im confortable about this purchase, more so than the tci i bought :(

Luminatorz34

got my ptc converter today. it is a 34-3600 stall :) im gonna get a big ass tranny cooler for the car, and hopefully install it by easter weekend (as thats my only weekend off this month)
